the gravity cursor should be mandatory in every climbing gym. Now I've got a new way to justify my fails!
@tekknoforu4 ай бұрын
totally! when the setter talked about gravity being high, i surely didn’t expect him to casually use the gym’s macgyver style gravity control. might also be technology stolen from the japanese. also explains v6 feeling like v9-10. low gravity to make the setting easier, and turned all the way up before magnus tried… hardest boulder gym my a**!! 😂

seeing you struggle on a "v6" was super funny and sparked the idea
@michael14 ай бұрын
That's pretty much what happens in every climbing gym anyway. You could see the setter blinking as Magnus told him it wasn't a v6 and the setter's saying he's seen no one climbing it and none of the comp kids could climb it - and it still didn't seem to register. TBH at this grade it probably doesn't matter, but gyms setting v2 and v3 that are really v5s probably explains why most of them are empty half the day.

@michael14 ай бұрын
@@genieinthepot2455 lol? Are you 7? I just don't see the point in the sandbagging - I get it was a bit of a thing back in the day between climbers who knew each other well, but in a commercial setting it just seems dumb.

Went to Harrowall a month back and didn't do anything harder than V5. Seeing Magnus struggle on that v6 reassures me that it's not just me who struggles there!
@babsds04 ай бұрын
During the tenzing climbing festival event there (For which they set the speed run boulder challenge that Magnus does) was a v8 boulder problem that out of Chris Sharma, Louis Parkinson and multiple other strong (v13 and harder) boulderers nobody could complete. I don't go to harrowall often but I find the grading is quite random the times I've been recently, either super soft or stupidly sandbagged.

I love this video. Yeah, in most of the commercial gyms in London, they tend not to really grade above V8. Thus, the climbs in the range of V6-V8 are a mess of a bit of everything and often sandbagged, which can be discouraging when you are at the level or push you harder-it depends on the spirit!

To explain this (assuming you want to know more): Norwegian /r/ can be pronounced in two different ways. Magnus uses the Bergen pronunciation (similar to French /r/), because... well, he's from Bergen. So, duh. Oslo people will use a trill instead, like Russian /r/. Both of these Rs are perfectly normal in Norway. I don't think Magnus would care at all whether you use English /r/ or French /r/ or Russian /r/ - he's probably fine with however you pronounce it.
