I completely understand the feeling of betrayal, and looking back on a wasted life of being caught in a cult for so long. I left mormonism years ago, but then kept getting caught into communities that had the characteristics of a cult until last month. Faith crisis is a very hard place to be, especially when you have no where to turn to voice the emotions you are feeling. Thank you for posting these videos, because they are my therapy right now.

Chris has come a long way since getting out - this time in telling his life story, I’ve heard him acknowledge more the outside forces that shaped him and influenced him to make some of the choices that he made. He’s always been very upfront about how he got in and why, but this is the first time in this context I’ve heard him explain just how predisposed he was to getting sucked into Scientology. I continue to be impressed at the progress Chris makes and allows us to come along with him on his journey. I’ve learned so much from him over these few years. Thanks for sharing.

Every time I hear Chris’s story told by him (doesn’t happen too often) there’s always a few new nuggets of info and experiences Thank you for facilitating this. Chris is a great narrator

I can listen to Chris tell a story I’ve already heard many times as if it’s the first time I’ve heard it . I always think of how Scientologists are told if you leave us you’ll be flipping burgers at Mc Donald’s the rest of your life if you’re lucky . I imagine an ex-Scientologist being the hardest working employee you could possibly hire : The Sea Org . Members work ethic is bar none .

I can't believe the intense torture that he was put through at the RPF. So awful.

This sounds like catastrophizing everything. It's like what I experienced in mormonism but way, way more intense.

My question for Chris is how come within 27 years you didn’t advance to the higher OT levels? That seems like plenty of time for you to be “prepared” within Scientology to advance. Or is that pretty typical that people in Scientology don’t go to the higher levels for decades even being as hardcore as you were? Even in Mormonism they will reveal the secrets of the temple in late teens early twenties so long as we pledge our belief And allegiance to Joseph Smith and the church leaders

Getting to the higher OT levels typically involves paying a lot of money (and by a lot I mean tens of thousands and often hundreds of thousands), and most people in the Sea Org as Chris said are essentially in poverty.

@cold war: Yes! If SCN actually believed in SCN, one would think it would want all Sea Org members to be super "OT" and able to handle anything!

Nice series. But, I am saddened to see certain conspiracies tied to the story. Take 9/11 for example. Having been a Fire Marshal for 27 years myself. Having read the NIST report and studied this issue in some detail...having been certified in the Building Code as a Plans Examiner as well as serving on national committees for International Fire Code certifications and being able to interview men like Steve Jones and other engineers and physicists; even including misdirected individuals like Alex Jones; to think that two planes brought down those monolythic buildings designed to take multiple hits from commercial aircraft, is a theory that one might want to revisit. How for example did building 7 implode upon its own footprint without being hit by a commercial aircraft at all. That Scientology could misconstrue "conspiracy theory" is all too probable and real. I would ask, " Is Scientology a delusional conspiracy against human beings?" Let us not allow our minds to be controlled to be open to revisit those conspiracies that are real. In Gibbons Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, in Hitler's Germany, in Mao's takeover of China....conspiracy was the mechanism that was at play. My suggestion is that there are no taboo topics and that we not allow ourselves to fall in to lumping real conspiracy....like Scientology....in to one lump. Read The Creature from Jekyll Island and you will understand how the money system actually has been taken over by a group of bankers for reasons that matter. Without looking at the evidence of this and lumping our money system, which is not owned by the people, is a huge method of engineering society. Hope this makes sense.

Western civilization, since Columbus and before, is built largely on death, destruction and/or oppression through various means, of the world's, and its own, people.
