as her old bandmate, Cindy Birdsong said about her "there was NOBODY like Patti on the rock ' roll circuit...because nobody had her range or stage presence. She may not have had all the confidence in herself, like Diana or Aretha had, when they were very young, but you would never have known it...and neither one of them could hold a candle to Pat, standing flat footed and just singing with no micorphone in their hand" (which is what her close friends called Patti)..you dont have to believe the quote if you dont want to...but its in Patti LaBelle's book. People talking about her "screaming" gets me hot!!! Yes, she has a big, full powerful voice-- so naturally it's loud. But no different than an opera singer-- they rarely use microphones and "cut" the band. Nothing different than what she does-- but she's not a one trick pony. Patti has an absolutely amazing voice, with so much agility! Her softer notes are simply beautiful-- and her control to switch to it and right out if she feels like it is insane.

@Tes70003 ай бұрын
Interesting analysis. It is too bad that Cindy didn't have more confidence in terms of her singing, because she could have easily taken over the lead spot in The Supremes when Diana Ross left in 1970. Cindy was no Jean Terrell for sure, but for the kinds of songs The Supremes were doing in the 70s, Cindy would have been fine singing lead. Her voice was close enough in range to Diana's to not be a major departure from what fans of the group were used to. I watched Cindy's solo show from the 80s, and my one caveat is that she would have needed to relax her pronunciations a bit to sound a little less proper. But singing behind a singer as stellar as Patti LaBelle and then joining The Supremes with a bunch of hoopla and scrutiny she didn't ask for, I can see why Cindy didn't have the confidence to assert herself.
