She had me at "do whatever feels good with your arms." And I actually like her fast speaking for my purposes -- a quick wake up stretch before my son gets up and my non-stop media production job begins. I know the moves; so, her voice is more like a cue card prompt.

Hey, Tara. I was wondering if you can show some moves targeting cellulite, especially in the thigh and bum area? I am asking because I have the bizzarre situation where my legs have always been slim and toned, and yet, cellulite is something I have had since my late teens. I would be so very grateful if you do such a video, and so will many women, especially with the summer approaching! Oh, an one more thing - you're great! Keep up all the good stuff! xx

I have a question on 1:12 your knee is not in line with your ankle I have been told that s a must..is this oke your knee almost in line with your toes?
@c.calastri298510 жыл бұрын
Fantastic video! But avoid letting the knee go further forward than your ankle during your lunges. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Especially because newbies are relying on you to show them what's right. Don't want to teach knee-injuring poses to anyone. Cheers and thanks for the lovely routine, definitely a keeper!
@mayasteininger68219 жыл бұрын
Caroline Calastri do your research..your knee CAN be above your ankle when the other knee is on the ground. That's important. Only in this case you can have your knee over the ankle.
@c.calastri29859 жыл бұрын
Oooh interesting, thanks for the info ;)
@christinamdarrigo10 жыл бұрын
Very graceful mover, but your knee should definitely be directly above your ankle in the lunges or else you could damage your knee very badly!! Please, for whoever is watching this, to avoid knee injury in your lunges, make sure that your knee is not so far in front of your foot & ankle when you bend it (knee should be right above your ankle)!! I definitely cringed a little bit when I saw that (just because I've suffered from knee injury in the past, and I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on my worst enemy), but the video was beautifully shot & the routine would be great for the morning time! Stay healthy!!! :)

Maya Steininger, thanks for your reply to my comment. I meant nothing against Tara at all, and I think she's an awesome yoga teacher and beautiful person!! However, I stand by what I said. I take joint alignment very seriously, and regardless of the amount of weight you're placing on the leg (if you're back knee is on the ground, then you're placing less weight on the front leg, which was the one I was referring to in my previous comment), when you place your knee that far forward out of alignment with your ankle, you're putting your joints at risk of injury, especially when you repeat the movement regularly. Sorry if my previous comment upset you in anyway. Stay safe and healthy in your yoga journey. Namaste.
@mayasteininger68219 жыл бұрын
Christina D'Arrigo Unfortunately in this case, you are wrong. Your joints wouldn't be at risk simply because what you just said..you are putting very little pressure on your joints, because you are supporting yourself with the back knee on the ground. However you decide to do it, Tara is doing it correctly.
@christinamdarrigo9 жыл бұрын
Maya Steininger, I respectfully disagree. I have been taught in all the anatomy & kinesiology courses I've taken that the ankle joint supports the knee joint. When your weight is no longer distributed evenly amongst both legs, the leg that is bearing the most weight (in this case, the front leg of the lunge) while bent, should have the knee directly stacked above the ankle and the patella should be in line with your second and third toes. Otherwise, the ankle is not in a position where it's stable enough to support the knee, which could cause stresses on the patella tendon from repetitive weight bearing in flexion. When your back knee is on the ground, you are definitely not placing as much weight on the front leg as you would if you were on the metatarsal of the back leg, so it won't be as severe on the knee joint if your knee is further forward. However, since we tend to move in and out of low lunge and high lunge quite often, I feel that it's safer to maintain the alignment of the knee and ankle throughout. That's how I practice and teach because this is what I was taught. Again, no disrespect against Tara. She's human just like we all are, and she does an amazing job at all that she does. I also mean no disrespect against you as well. If this is what works for you, then by all means, do what is best for your body. From the perspective of someone who has suffered from patellar tendonitis for most of my life, this philosophy is something that I currently live by, and it helps to reduce inflammation around my knee cap. Hope that better helps to explain my theory on this issue. Have a great weekend, and best wishes in your yoga practice! :)
@mayasteininger68219 жыл бұрын
Christina D'Arrigo I'm not arguing with you, I'm just saying you are wrong, that's a fact. Maybe if you actually tried the lunge, you would see that it feels very light on the joints... People if you are doing something (workouts, yoga, hiking or walking) your ankles are already strong. If you would like to study the alignment, please read books written by specialists (=doctors) and not blogs or magazine written by "lifestyle specialists". And most importantly, you don't even have to read books, just do what feels good!

Regarding the "Lunges" she does, both my yoga teachers instruct never to have the knee 'overshoot' the ankle (ie always have it no further forward than your ankle). Tara Stiles here seems to have the knee way further forward than her ankle/foot. Is that VERY poor technique?
