also quick thing, i don't think the Script(which isn't bad, but still not great) was the final script, cause Armie Hammer recently said they were still working on it before they had to stop Production, which makes sense as George Miller does a lot of rewrites on movies( ex Mad Max Fury Road) like Ridley Scott, their both masters of their style of writing/production, cause there was also another sequence with Wonder Woman fighting a Minotaur that wasn't in that screen play.

It Is the best Batman live-action and Nolan understand the character and the story are better than Burton or Synder. Both of them let Batman kill, and Burton butcher the villains of Batman. However, I still like Burton's Batman movies.

Justice league Mortal was the time warner bros should have started it all. Call me crazy but I think It would have worked with two different batmans. Dark knight was more grounded and a solo film. And Mortal would have included more than just batman and would have had a more comic book accurate batman. I think people would have been ok with it. Then they could have waited after dark knight rises in 2012 to make the solo movies for justice league mortal's batman. Mortal was the perfect start, A mortal villain, a mortal hero making the ultimate sacrifice, a mortal who is so pernoid he finds the weakness of every hero. I think it would have been interesting and fascinating to see the heroes to have some experience already. Giving more interest in the solo films. Then make prequel and sequel movies to each character. Warner bros had the chance to get the torch of being the first live action superhero team up. I think when they rushed it after that was karma punishing them. They have turned off some of the greatest directors with great and amazing ideas. I think George miller idea would have worked out better. All the heroes are young including batman, allowing warner bros to profit off of solo films for years and years. Marvel allowed directors to do what they wanted and let the best ideas get a chance. Hopefully warner bros will learn with the batman in 2021.

Unlike the Avengers, you actually don't need stand-alone films to get the JLA. Superfriends, Justice League DCAU, and Young Justice have all debuted the league as fully formed with a clear, succinct understanding of who they are. What made the property a hit in the comics involved three elements: their personality brands being based on literalism (WW is Athena, Batman is Sherlock Holmes as a Ninja, Superman is an everyman during the workday, etc.), putting their heads together to debate and build plans and theories, and the creative collaboration of and use of their powers. This film would have done just all that. WB needs to pick this script back up. PS. I liked your visualization of the script's plot. Well done.

I think that my take away from this video is that WB really puts too much stock in their single directors. The way Marvel has made their Universe is consistant production/upper level creative decisions not single director triumphs (though they have had their share of great directorial runs now that they've matured). I don't think WB has someone high enough that actually loves the property enough to know when to let other people take over. Most of the time when they bring in comics people (who may not be the best minds for movie making) they are used as token appeasement and not given any real power. Truely WB needs a League of Creative talent committed to a longterm project to make a universe work. Right now they seem to be content letting single individuals cut through the jungle with a machete. Only once in a while is someone (Nolan) going to find a temple of gold.

I think a studio putting faith in a director is a good thing (as opposed to a studio constantly meddling and interfering with a project), but the problem with WB/DC has always been the sheer lack of long-term vision and reactionary approach to their film series. I agree though, hopefully now they can sort everything out!

@@OwenLikesComics I may be praising Marvel too much, and I agree with limited meddeling, but I think Directors should be trusted with a movie (or series like used to be Gunn with Guardians), not neccessarily burdened with the reins of a universe. In this reguard I think Marvel were very lucky to bring in the Russos, they've done well with their assigned movies. But it would make me very nervous if someone announced they were in charge of the universe. I never understood why Snyder got the reins or at least the title of master of the DCEU after a pretty decent superman movie that had mixed fan responses.

If Zack Snyder was kept on board for Justice League it still would of been divisive however I don't think the film wouldn't have been as negatively received as Joss Whedon's JL. By the way this is coming from someone who actually likes the MCU films. I actually personally liked the DCEU and it's nice to see that the WW film and recently the Aquaman film have been well recieved critically and having a massive success at the box office. Hopefully in the near future we'll get a good Justice League film.

Holy moley, I remember hearing a few details about Mortal back when it was being planned, but I've never read the script or heard a synopsis of the plot before. What a...busy...movie it was going to be. I don't understand why so many of these studios/screenwriters think they need to smash multiple comic storylines that took place over months' worth of issues into a single 2-3 hour movie. Still, I think it would've been fascinating to see the finished project if it had actually happened. Another great video Owen, can't wait for the next one!

Thanks! Yeah there's a lot of neat ideas in the script, but it's like the screenwriters tried to cram *all* of their favourite JLA stories into the film. I do think if they had time to redraft it and had the Writers Strike not happened, it probably could've turned out okay... but we'll never know.

I guess the only criticism is it would expect the audience to just except all these characters but so then again the film we got kind of did as well. The way you edited and narrated the script almost made me cry. For some reason im so attached to DC superheroes. This film (or how you read it) sounded really interesting and unique actually. You can see aspects of it in future DC films, which is a regular occurence I've noticed.

I ain't a book guy, I'm a comic book guy :D Glad you made this video though, now I know a lot more about this film.... shame it wasn't made.... WB should of though spawned a JL movie out of Bale and Routh's movies, after all, both were contracted to do a crossover film, this or a BVS movie would have been the best way to go, I reckon if they started the DCU franchise off with them, WB's DCEU would/could have been as big or even bigger than what the MCU is right now, instead of playing catch up..... JL last year was alright, just needed tweaking here and there but they rushed it out sadly.... great video again, big thumbs up, cant wait for part 2. ;) And cant wait for the Aquaman movie, hope you do a review on it! ^5

I read the leaked script. I think Brother Eye was actually supposed to be called Redeye in the movie. You failed to mention that The OMAC Project was the core inspiration for the movie's story and that the solo Green Lantern movie was not supposed to be a stand-alone film. It was originally meant to launch the DC Cinematic Universe. It would have been followed up by a Flash movie and the Green Lantern would have shown up at the end to establish connectivity. The Flash script was eventually used for the Flash TV series.

I know this is a bit out of context I AM against Batman killing in BvS NOT because he kills in general NOT to criticize Snyder’s take on Batman The REAL problems are: 1. If Batman kills , then the Joker should totally be dead . He killed Robin in the DCEU . Also IF the Joker isn’t physically dead , then he should be dead inside like in the beginning of The Dark Knight Returns where he is depressed because his relationship with Batman is ruined , In the DCEU the Joker won and Batman broke his code , now the Joker has no purpose . 2. Batman should’ve straight up murdered Superman . In the controversial “Martha” scene , Batman figures out that Superman is human at heart and has a mother . That’s fine But Batman EVERY DAY kills criminals who have mothers and families . So even if he figured out Superman has human qualities , it shouldn’t matter to him . 3. The better way to execute Batman in BvS is make him more brutal , not a killer . He now breaks bones and paralyzes people instead of just neutralizing them . Of course this is triggered by Robin’s death and Bat’s PTSD . So in BvS the whole movie he convinces himself that Superman is a threat and justifies himself killing Superman . He wants himself to only take one life , the life of the Apocalypse itself . It makes the Martha scene actually work , because when Batman figures out Superman is human at heart , he lets go of his hate and his negativity towards him . So he spares his life . 4. If you keep Batman a killer , have his first kill be years ago ( the Joker after Robin’s death ) now he has taken many lives and he has become blinded . He now separates families because of his killings . There is no difference between Batman and Joe Chill . He has lost his way . Gotham criminals are either too scared to leave Arkham or dead . So , in BvS Batman takes Superman’s life . And in the third act he figures out the consequences of that , maybe Doomsday comes to life and Batman and Wonder Woman are barely a match for him , in the end many lives are lost and now the world and Batman appreciate Superman . This makes Batman finally wake up So he puts Luthor in Arkham and he is the first life he spares Now he and Wonder Woman form the LEAGUE , and Batman wanting to resurrect Supeman works because of his guilt . Also if the Joker happens to run away from the past killer Batman and gets all depressed , Once he figures out Batman doesn’t kill anymore it revives their relationship for future movies

I actually like the ideas in this script. I like Maxwell Lord's backstory. I like most of the casting choices (except Megan Gale as Wonder Woman and Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord. I like them as actors but they just don't fit those characters). I like the idea of Barry Allen sacrificing himself. Also, George Miller is a great director who would've moat likely given us something crazy. The problem though is the writing. This movie is basically like if marvel made the first avengers movie without any solo movies before it: it would be executed well but the writing would suck because we wouldn't know any of the characters that much. This is like that. This story just drops all these new verisons of DC characters together ,already as the Justice League, without any proper explanation,buildup, or insight on the characters. It's just like "well, here's the Justice League. Don't question it". We loved the Avenegrs cause it had previous films before it, with Iron Man 1 and 2, CaP America 1, Thor 1, and The Incredible Hulk, to build up and explore these characters. That way, when they come together, we love seeing them interact cause we love these characters already for their personalities. Justice League Mortal wanted to have this movie end up splitting into solo movies, as the opposite of the MCU. That just doesn't work cause then we don't know as much about the Justice League as we want to. Give the DCEU movies credit, they AT LEAST had MoS, BvS, and Wonder Woman to introduce Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman for when they form the League later on. It still wasn't done right at all and was clearly rushed, but this film sounds 10 times as rushed to get the league together. I hope that this film can maybe be salvaged in the future in some way, maybe it can work if re-written. But with this, it sounds like it would've been another comic book movie with WAY TOO MUCH plot and characters shoved into it, like BvS, Xmen 3, Xmen Origins Wolverine, Spiderman 3, The Amazing Spiderman 2, Wonder Woman 1984, etc.

It's unmade movies like this that haunt me. I'm still feeling ever so cheated out of something awesome with Tim Burton's Superman: Lives and even JJ Abrams Superman Fly-by and don't get me started on the rest the Batman stuff that alone has me going dam it could have been cool or worth a good laugh. Just something so wrong about WB choosing not to do cinematic universe nor creating an all you can watch buffet of different versions and their sequels and spin offs. Like c'mon guys you got to do something. Instead they were like those weird nerds who keep the comics in wrap never to be touched, read, or enjoyed.

I tend to agree with you. That moment is actually lifted from Infinite Crisis, but it's Wonder Woman who kills Lord, which kinda fits better with her being a warrior

It fit her character but I like how the rest of the JLA distrusted her afterwards for a while. Really added some drama and tension to the team. Also same first name club lol!😂

@Steven Camarillo I never said he didn't kill. I'm saying he SHOULDN'T kill. Batman got that rule early on and for the most part he's stuck by it. Batman killing also messes up his message that anyone can be redeemed. Batman gives people a second chance. Can't do that when they're dead. And who are YOU to say I'm not a Batman fan? I've been reading since No Man's Land.
