John Salley wasn't a dick so he didn't get the pure hatred that Laimbeer, Dumars, and Isiah got. Even worse for Isiah was implying Magic was gay and it took years for them to talk to each and forgive each other. I mean you win, but at what costs. MJ showed that in The Last Dance. Joe Dumars burned all bridges? The current head of NBA basketball operations? The guy who the NBA's sportsmanship award has been named after since the season after he retired? Laimbeer openly loved his role as the heel, and he was able to follow up his playing days by becoming arguably the most successful coach in WNBA history, so I don't think he's devastated over "losing friends" or whatever. And that's not getting into guys like Mahorn, Aguirre, and Vinnie Johnson. This is an exhausting topic, because people will just kind of exaggerate/believe the worst, and because these are the guys who opposed some of the most popular players in league history, these narratives rarely get challenged.

I look at the Bad Boy Pistons in this way. Were they dirty? Of course they were. Were they villains? Without a doubt. But they abused the rules of the game to win. They didn’t break any rules. They didn’t do anything that wasn’t allowed in the system of basketball. They found their own way to play and excelled at it. And at the end of the day, the Pistons are two-time NBA champions (should’ve been three times because there was no way Bill Laimbeer fouled Kareem on that skyhook) and no one can take that away from them.

@@RVeredThe Pistons gave hard fouls to ANYONE coming to score in the paint. The funny thing is, back then, most teams in the eastern conference played like that: the Celtics who also won championships like that, the Knicks, the 76ers, and so on. The Pistons were just more effective doing it by the time they won championships. With that being said, when the Pistons played Jordan, the moment Jordan went to the basket, all the Pistons players on the court close enough to him would collapse on him to foul him as hard as possible and put him on the floor. Those tactics were so effective cause back then Jordan wouldn't pass the ball that often - be it because he didn't trust his teammates or because he had an ego. But regardless, those tactics on guarding him were nicknamed the 'Jordan rules' by the media. And those other teams in the eastern conference copied those 'Jordan rules' after the Pistons had a measure of success with them.

I am not a Detroit fan, but I greatly respect those Bad Boy Pistons squads. A small-market team, not typically a free agent destination, did what was necessary to win titles and become part of NBA history. 💯👏
@jdapaul135114 күн бұрын
I respect that they won, but i don't respect how they won. I don't respect the Jordan Rules. Dennis Rodman said that the Pistons should put Jordan on the ground. That's pretty much trying to injure him to gain an advantage. I don't mind being physical in defense or using mind games to slow down the opponent's best player, but there are boundaries in how you do it.
@johnchapman81314 ай бұрын
Isiah caused the beef by just being himself. When him and his team couldn't prison ball their way past the bulls anymore ,they disrespected MJ and the bulls by not shaking hands after their loss. No body likes a sore loser. Isiah didn't deserve to be on the dream team,his character being the main reason for that.

Yeah, IT seems like he was willing to take his competitiveness to real garbagy levels, and seems like the start of so many problems. There's a way of making that right, but he probably never put his ego aside to take those steps.

Whoa, rare to hear someone mention Jordan's comments about the Pistons being undeserving the game before the walkout! So funny to hear in interviews how the Bulls expected a respectful passing of the torch after JUST saying to the press how they didn't believe the Pistons ever deserved to have that torch. (I also found it even more funny that one of the issues that Jordan "took personally" was someone waiting to trash talk until they had the upper hand. And yet the first time Jordan ever publicly questions the Bad Boys' champion status is AFTER the Bulls get a 3-0 lead).

Everyone even said and knew Jordan was the best individual player in the game playing into the late 80's and early 90's but he couldn't win: he failed the test 3 straight years against Detroit from 1988-90 and it took the Pistons letting him win and then breaking up their team in order for Jordan to win and keep winning -- that's just the facts and truth of what took place. The Pistons competing and keeping their championship team together into 1991-92 healthy, no way Chicago keeps winning, even if you think they won legit in '91.
@KDub22344 ай бұрын
It's due to recency bias, Jordan hasn't played in over 20 years so you have full grown adults who never saw Michael Jordan play and only watch Lebron their whole lives. Lebron has played for 22 years and garnered fans from 2 decades. There are fans born in the 2000s and 2010s who only watch Lebron and never saw MJ nor Prime Kobe.

Exactly, it is that simple. Imagine being bested 2 years in a row in the ECF and yet still respect the Game and the Rivals enough to shake hands and "GG" them, just for them to "walk off" the court the moment you beat them?? KNOWING Isaiah was the leader and did nothing to stop/prevent it IS and INSULT to the Sport. If you can't see how this would absolutely piss MJ off, then I guess you've never played sports. PS. STOP with the nonsense that the pistons were old, getting old, BS. The ages for Detroit Pistons' starters during ECF 1991 Isiah Thomas: 29 years old Dennis Rodman: 29 years old Joe Dumars: 27 years old Mark Aguirre: 31 years old Bill Laimbeer: 33 years old James Edwards: 35 years old.

After I saw Barkley's comments about Jordan's Yes-Dudes, Jordan should apologize to Zeke. Zeke always wanted to recoup their relationship if you search on the web. He asked Kobe to miss the three-point free throws. Complimented him always and considered him the GOAT. I don't know man, I just felt that Zeke, Pip, Luc, and other players were disrespected during The Last Dance and the dudes that I think influenced MJ to give the yes to the final cut didn't even bother to tell him the consequence.
