I really hope it was just parental love at first sight, not because she lost one of her kittens before being rescued and now thinks her humans brought him back too, or something. That would make it a bit more bittersweet.

Michelin's first priority, like that of any good mom or dad, whether feline or human, was the well-being of her babies. Once she understood you were there to help, she could relax and allow you to do so. And after they were all safe and secure, of course there was room in her heart for one more. We are not so different. Beautiful!

I rescued a mama in february. She had two kittens who were about 13 days old. The day after I rescued her I got a call from a friend saying she had found 4 newborn kittens inside of a box by a trash can. I took em in and gave them to mama to see if she would feed them. it took her about 5 minutes to warm up to them. All six babies made it and I gave them to their forever families 2 weeks ago! Mama is the sweetest little princess and we're probably going to keep her because no one has been interested in adopting her 😢 We love her, but would prefer for her to find a home since we already have 3 cats of our own. From the looks of it tho, she is probably staying

I took in a pregnant cat. About 3-4 weeks after the babies were born my neighbor's cat had kittens and the mom wouldn't care for them. Sadly all but 1 passed very quickly. I took the survivor home to my momma cat and she immediately took her in! She started grooming her and tucking her under her leg to try to warm and nurse her. It took a bit for the baby to latch but once she did... it was awesome! It was heartwarming to see.

This is so sweet. I've been a dog owner my whole life because I could never find a cat who liked me..😔 recently my neighbor's cat adopted me and now it seems like all the cats I meet now like me too.. Acceptance is a beautiful thing. 🥰 🧡 🐈
@kahssie3 жыл бұрын
If it helps, cats and dogs show affection differently, and many cats take more time to trust you/humans in general! Some shelters trying to adopt out previously feral kittens can take weeks or months to get them acclimated to human touch, so dont feel bad if it seems like they dont like you at first. With cats, most owners i see take the time and respect to give them space, get to know them, and get them to open up, and in the end they get smothered by love from the cats. Adorable that the cat adopted you, maybe youve learned their ways and become one of their own now🐈
@sooz94333 жыл бұрын

@MewmewGrrl3 жыл бұрын
@Sooz - I saw this last night and was going to come back to reply, I wanted to say sort of the same thing someone else has now. Cats whole thing is so different than dogs, you can't really judge if they like you by the same standards. Especially when you first meet them, and if they belong to someone else. While some cats are friendly to everybody, a lot keep their own special person they show affection to more deeply and differently. Many cats won't show affection in the same way, or need more time to get to know someone. So it's not that they don't like you, it's that they don't know you yet and they aren't a cat that automatically trusts all humans (some do, some don't, sadly the ones that do often have people do horrible things to them so I'd rather my cats keep a distance from and fear of strangers). Cats way of showing affection and love is different than with dogs, and it's harder to earn as well. It's more of a learned thing than an automatic follow the alpha thing. If you treat them right, they will end up liking you. You will find those cats friendly to everybody, the way people perceive the majority of dogs to be (true or not). But cats have such varying personalities, they are on all all parts of the spectrum. Normally you can win them over with proper behavior, but you can't really know if they like you when you first are meeting them. They're just so different than dogs. Most cats can be won over by the correct treatment, tho there are so many different personalities of cat you never know what that relationship will be like. I've had different cats that all loved me, but the way each wanted and expressed their affection was a bit different. But I still loved and cared for them all because they all need homes and people that love them, even if they aren't the kind that are lap cats that gush all over you. Especially if they've been treated poorly by their previous owners, it takes some time to win over a deeper trust for humans from them again. One of the thing many cat owners like is that they aren't automatically programmed to follow the alpha (no offense to dogs, that's just their nature and that's great too!). They have to earn their trust and love and it feels more special once earned. It's not super hard to earn once you learn how cats like to be treated and respect that, but it is different than the way things are done with dogs. Very often you see a person and a cat and that's a relationship that took time to build. Even if a cat decides it likes you, it doesn't mean it wants you to touch it when it doesn't know you well :D You can learn some cat quirks and how to approach them better, cats work on body and facial language a lot, including looking at ours, and some things have a slightly different meaning to them than us. None of it means they don't like you. It just means you need to probably learn a bit more about cat's special language and ways :P Though it sounds like your neighbor's cat is already initiating you into that. You may not even realize it but by that cat teaching you how to act and react to cats, it will probably make other cats notice and react better too. But don't expect a lot right off, and don't be offended. Kitties just work differently. It sounds like you're on the right path tho.

@@todrapayne Her dogs were let out into her yard not out into the street. How was she supposed to know that a mama cat had brought her kittens into her yard? The possible death of the street cat and other kittens is not the dog owner's fault. That's life on the streets for a homeless cat. Y'all are so fast to blame the woman who called for help for the last kitten when all she did was probably let her dog out to potty! Sheesh!

@@JessieCristo the lady did act as soon as she heard the cat. So I don’t think she had any bad intentions. But I wonder about the dogs and attacking and killing the cat and almost all of the kittens. Usually dogs are caring and don’t attack if not needed. I’m sorry, I can’t express it right. English is my second language. Some dogs are cat-killers, period. Idk why or where they get it into their head, or is it merely instinct ?. I’ve had friends whose dogs were like that and they’d say “my dog hates cats”.....well I believe it is more instinct than “hate” .....maybe the dog has very strong predator instincts and kill drive. In any case, it is obviously vital to keep these dogs away from cats. As much as I ADORE cats and kittens, I tend toward “no-fault” in this case of a stray coming into someone’s yard. Sad and tragic, AND thank you to the dog-owner for calling for help for the situation. Thank goodness one survived to become one of Michelin’s babies.😽

Mowgli’s story is a good illustration of why you mustn’t let your dogs out into your yard unsupervised. As a former professional animal caretaker, who ran a business looking after animals, I can tell you that, aside from the risk of your dog jumping the fence never to be found again, or being snatched out of your own yard by dognappers, it’s possible your dog will harm innocent animals who enter the area… so keep your eyes on your dogs, please, stand in your yard _with_ them!!

It always makes me a little sad when the kittens all get split up from the mom and the rest of their litter.
@simplystreeptacular3 жыл бұрын
It is a little bit sad, but remember that cats are solitary by nature. Kittens always split up and away from their parents eventually, and good rescues - like this one - make sure the kittens have long enough with their mother before they adopt them out.

@@simplystreeptacular Not always. It's recommended to adopt bonded pairs instead of splitting them up. My dad's gf took a pair of siblings that she then abandoned at hour house, but 5 years later they're constantly near each other and act like twins. Constantly mirroring each other, grooming each other and sleeping beside each other. The brother will even let his piggy sister eat his food instead of fighting her, even though he's stronger.

I remember when I was a kid this farm cat had kittens and my sister and I would always go to visit them. One day one of them got out of the abandoned car where they made their home and I looked all over for her for 3 days until I found her in a nearby field. I brought her home with me and my sister picked out one from the litter. The one I found and saved I named her Leah and my sister named hers misty. They are both roughly 14-15 years old now and happy and healthy as ever. They both still live with our mom as I couldn't take a cat to work with me as I travel alot. Glad I got to save the tiny one!

Yeah, but when you don't know the temperament of a cat, and she's afraid and protecting her babies, you have to protect yourself. Cat bites aren't anything to sneeze at, they can be really deep and getting infections from them is super common. Better to get them all moved to a safe place now and assess the situation after.

@@Firsona True. I know. I have had many beautiful kitties in my time on earth. They’re very independent & quick to set you straight when not pleased. I love that about them.😽
