When you have 19 kids you’re surviving, you can’t dream if you’re surviving, there’s no way they can give each one of those kids the individual attention they need. Even with money, Time spent ,is way more valuable than money spent. We only have so much time!
@halkael23172 жыл бұрын
“individual attention” is not needed as much as its desired. Life lessons are still lessons, wether they are in a group or individually learned… a family with one, two or three kids has different life lessons growing up than families with more. Not all lessons that are learned in one-on-one time are good, or needed lessons… selfishness is one, an only child will not learn how to share like kids with many siblings will… so to say the kids “need” the individual attention, I believe that to be not accurate. Maybe some kids need that one-on-one time, but not not all. You’re right that we only have so much time, but its quality, not quantity that counts! It doesnt mean that it has to be individual time spent! They are just learning different family values than those of us with “normal” size families… Youre welcome to your opinion, but I disagree with you 😎 Just because its different, doesnt mean its wrong! Many years ago, I worked with a few guys where eI knew more of their family than I had of a family! There were 18 kids, I worked with 4 of them and a couple of their wives…. All 4 of them had many kids. I asked how many grandchildren their mother had. He said, “Im not sure off hand, we quit counting when Mom had more than 50 before her 50th birthday” 😳 These people never knew what “alone time” was. They werent worse off because of it, instead, they were better people than most everyone else Ive met, in many ways. They have never been on welfare, grew up on a farm, shared everything they had and never cried about material things. The dads worked for income, the wife and kids ran the farm for food. As a kid that was raised in the big city with only one sibling, both our parents were only kids… I come from a very small family and was stunned at how this other MASSIVE family was able to cope with lifes situations!
@douglass12212 жыл бұрын
@@halkael2317 you are right that things are just different but that also means that some of those big family situations are disasters or have unintended consequences. Just one example, I know an adult who had 7 siblings, he was #7. He felt miserable towards his parents because they never spent any time with him. He was raised by the older siblings. Carries resentment to this day. And imagine the intellectual capacity of this individual to know that his misery can only be there because he was #7. If his parents were to stop earlier, he would not have those thoughts. Yet he is still smart enough to know that his parents did him wrong and all the other siblings. The older ones had no lives outside the family cause they had to take care of their parents kids. Sad.
@michaelccozens2 жыл бұрын
@@halkael2317 If you're going to say something as hugely counter-intuitive as "this incredibly-social creature with possibly the most intense period of childhood development in the animal kingdom doesn't actually need individual attention, the entirety of psychological research be damned", you're going to need a whole fucking lot more supporting evidence than "this is my opinion". It is your opinion, sure, but that doesn't mean it isn't also a very foolish one, as I think I've already demonstrated. Like, literally the oldest and most severe societal punishment for humans is social exclusion, or the very thing you're now asserting, with no support, to be harmless. You can make that argument, but you'd better do your fucking homework first, and you clearly haven't. Also, you've absolutely no way to know if those people were harmed or not by their lack of individual parental attention, because you've no way to know how they'd be different if they'd received it. That's a pretty fucking basic error; how'd you miss it? I'd suggest it's because you weren't actually trying to understand this issue, but only to cherry-pick in order to support the assumptions you already had and wanted to be true. That's not a rational approach, nor is it a good-faith one. Don't do it, at least not without being clear about your biases. "I turned-out fine" is the possibly the most common self-negating statement in human history.

Yeah obviously you need some sort of insane income to make that work but everyone should be able to afford one or two. Now the other side of that is if you don’t want kids, don’t have kids. Yo. 19 kids is ridiculous. You'd need a full time job for food alone. Even if you somehow managed to make meals cost only $0.50 a person that's still $9.5, a meal -> $28.5 a day -> $199.5 a week -> $10,400 a year. And that's just for food. At 50 cents a meal/person. It'd probably be more. And I can't imagine the cost of the fucking dormitory you'd need to house everyone. Or the cost of clothes, medical costs, school stuff. Etc etc. Quite frankly the amount of money your household would have to make each year would have to be insane. Its good that by the time you'd make the 19th the first few would either have a job or would have moved. But that still likely means a minimum of 15 people in the house at any given time. And having 5 or 6 teens at any given time could potentially help with the younger ones. But fuck dude.

My wife and I decided to have two children because I work as a Firefighter/Paramedic and also as a part time flight paramedic and make about 95k a year with both jobs. I feel that we can comfortably support two kids with my income. I have a neighbor that has 8 kids and works part time and spends the rest of his time playing video games, it’s sad to see those kids struggle. (Though in the case of my dad's family, the tenth baby was born with some kind of birth defect and didn't survive, so he was essentially the youngest.) Now, neither of my parents grew up poor. My mom's family was lower middle class, but they were never in danger of not having enough to eat or anything. ...Tellingly, though, my parents only had two children, and the most any of their siblings had was four.

I was never in the right place financially, emotionally, physically, mentally, relationship-wise, all at the same time, so I never had kids. I'm 46 and it's pretty guaranteed I will never have kids. And that kills me. I cry about it as I want to be a mother more than anything. But I'm proud I put my unborn kids ahead of myself. I wish more people did. There are way too many crappy parents out there. I would have been a good one but it was never the right time. If only everyone would be more prepared and dedicated to be parents than most of them are. (And no, I never had an abortion. I simply never let myself get pregnant.) You should have to take a test before being allowed to be a parent. And forced sterilization should be a thing with some people. By the way, anybody who thinks 19 kids isn't a lot is freaking crazy. If their 20th, who died, had lived, and if all 20 kids had 20 kids of their own, these people would have 400 grandchildren. That's not normal!
