Motley Crue Loses to Mick Mars in Court

Motley Crue is ordered to pay Mick Mars' legal fees after the judge criticized the band for not turning over requested documents in a reasonable amount of time. The Motley Crue dispute will now head into private arbitration.

Saw MC open for KISS in Nashville in 2014. Audience was dead for MC. The depths to which they had fallen was unbelievable. Game over. Neil was overweight (again), Lee was a goofy old man, & Frank (Sixx) was...ugh. There was one bright spot. This poor underweight guy, stuck to the floor, immobile, hunched over his guitar...he sounded like 10 freight trains. Colossal guitar sound. Did not miss a lick for 75 minutes. A titan on guitar. One of the best I ever saw. That man's name was Mick Mars. I'm sorry, Mick, that you were stuck in a band that rode your talent on that & many other nights. BTW, Simmons, Stanley, Singer, and Thayer mopped the floor with MC, except for Mick. Mick should've performed with KISS that night. He's too good for MC. Mad respect for you, Mick.

@@vermontbred this was a great judgment for marrs, though. he got the documents FINALLY (after years of asking for them, essentially forcing him to sue) AND the judge said they have to pay marrs' legal fees because they had ignored him this long. he still has a long road ahead, but this is a great start. now they know the judges aren't going to f around. it's a legal matter and the law is on mick's side for sure.

Buckle up for a bit of a rant: For those who believe Nikki Sixx is the brains behind this band, then you've drank the Kool-aid. With his books, interviews, movies, ect., he's spun quite a narrative but the man didn't know a bass from a guitar when he started. I've worked for the band twice, been a fan from the beginning as a teenager, and the interactions I've had with them is that Nikki absolutely has control & narcissistic issues, Tommy is very talented but very much a follower, and Lord knows we all know how entitled & invincible Vince believes he is or he would have never drank & drove again & again & again & again after killing Razzle & leaving the other 2 with life altering injuries. Mick is the absolute brains, backbone & musical talent behind this band. Nikki wants to claim he's the brains behind the look. Sorry but a "look" doesn't make music. Lyrically he may have contributed quite a bit but not fully like he wants everyone to believe. Don't believe me, listen to his old band London, who was a Boston copy cat band, even to the point of naming their band after a city, just like Boston but they were no where near the level of Boston. They were nowhere near the level of the Crue cause that level of the Crue is Mick. I know I'm gonna get shit clapback for saying this, but these aren't just my opinions, but my experiences. Mick, if you or any of your people see this, my many thanks to you & the rest of the Crue for decades of kickass music. I won't take anything away for what they've contributed, but truth is truth and you were/are/ always will be the force at which you rocked our faces off. Now that I’m an adult, looking through adult eyes, I can see all this. Motley Crue was my favorite band in middle/high school. I listened to Nikki’s radio show for years and thought he was the greatest person. I’ve read his books. I’ve been teased by my kids for being stuck in the 80s and my request to play them at my funeral. 😅 This is an ugly reminder that bands become businesses, what we see in public probably isn’t who they really are. Mick deserves his share, despite his age, health, etc. (In fairness the others do too) I don’t think I’ve listened to them since Mick filed his lawsuit. I just can’t stomach them anymore 😢

The realistic truth about it is that from the beginning Sixx and Lee could have been replaced with anyone who had long hair and could play, while Vince falls somewhere in-between that scale of replaceability, Mick has stood firmly and rightfully on the "irreplaceable" end of that spectrum from day one all the way to the very end with no waivering anywhere along that journey. As someone that also deals with AS and a drummer, I can confirm that playing shows comes with a whole set of challenges and he even has the luxury of techs and ppl setting up stuff and carrying stuff for him. Mick is the man and when I learned he had AS as well, I had someone I could look to. We're both lucky we're not in the group that have lost our mobility. I wish him much luck. Also, his new solo stuff is rad AF and certainly on-par with anything Crue ever put out...probably better than anything they've put out in 20 years.

When I was a teenager in the 90s, I was a hardcore Crüe fan and I still listen to their music today in my 40s. I never thought I’d see the day this kinda thing would happen. I know all these guys since 1982 when I was in Sister/WASP, it's so sad to see all the dark side drama. Niki was always so very cool to me, giving me some hand me down costuming, etc. It's just a shame that all this is happening...

I remember when motley Crue came on the scene, I was a big fan of theirs, Mick Mars Is the founding member of the band, The band is cold as sh/t. Mick owns 25% of the business He has the right to keep his ownership get royalties etc etc etc Even a retirement package.

Actions are more powerful than words. If Nikki truly felt bad for what happened and what is happening I think you would see him actually trying to do something to mend fences. Maybe the legal stuff still needs to happen to get that business part out of the way but the personal stuff could be being worked on right now. As far as I've heard, all Nikki has offered are words and a distorted version of the history. I doubt he's sincere.

I’ve always liked Mick Mars as a guitarist, essentially grew up listening to Motley Crue. I think his argument is valid, he helped create that band both as a touring entity and as a brand. A lot of people might not know, that he was primarily responsible for getting their first demos funded. That would be like keeping an heir of Harley-Davidson from receiving shares of ownership without some sort of legal justification or if they sold out their interest. Good luck, Mick!

Mick Mars is probably the most underrated professional musician in the history of the business. His contribution to Motley Crue should also probably be greater than 25%. Just listen to the music they made and it’s audible that he was always the greatest talent and driving force. Tommy Lee I’d call a close second for his pounding yet serve the song drumming. Mick Mars deserves his compensation as a quarter of Motley if not more. I wouldn’t be surprised to see John 5 depart over this dispute to save his own career and show love for Mr Mick Mars.

Motley Crue are egotistical and they assumed Mick was too stupid and was just going to lay down & let them walk allover him. I find it funny for them to accuse him of forgetting how to play the guitar parts in the music when there's a plethora of videos & articles being released showing Vince not only forgetting the words but sounding absolutely horrible. I hope Mick wins every case & Motley Crue finally calls it quits & spares the fans the misery of who they are now.

They should have allowed him to retire from the road but collaborate in the studio. They could still add John 5 in the arsenal as a second guitarist. Mick has said he likes John. And Mick could play select shows. Iron Maiden never dumped Janick when Adrian came back, they just kept ALL of them. Foos did the same when Pat left briefly.

The ship has sailed as far as an amicable ending to all of this. To be sure, that’s not Mick’s fault. Shame on the rest of the band for how they did him dirty. Last time I checked, having to pay the other side’s attorney fees is not only not a win, it’s adding insult to injury - the judge’s way of saying this was a sham of the court’s time, Mick’s time, and Mick’s money trying to fight it. Mick has the momentum in this case; the precedent has been set. All Mick has to do is hold his ground and see it through.

It's documented by a third party who the other band members asked "if" they should get rid of Mars way back when and this third party told them ...."NO...it was a bad idea"....so Mars is truthful when he says, the other band members have been trying to get rid of him since '87 because he (Mars) is much older than the other band members.....Ageism in Rock 'n' Roll! Despite the fact that Mars started the band and came up with the name too!

People don't understand corporations or corporate law. Mars still owns his 25% shares of the company whether he writes another song or performs again. Plenty of investors just buy stock or invest and never participate in the company and make plenty of money. Lawyers will take either side because they ALWAYS make money - win or lose. They are just trying to steal his shares for pennies. Mars was key to the band's success. The guitar riffs set the tone of the songs and made them memorable. Mars deserves his shares and profits from sales until he sells them. Rock on Mick.. Rock on bro! 🤘

I've loved motley crew from way back in the 80s. But the aging band should be more considerate of one another. I lost my best childhood friend to aniclosing spondylitis in June of this year. It's a very hard thing to live with on a daily basis. It never gets easier the next day is always harder than the last. Good for you Mick.
