We've tested the Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel on several trips covering thousands of miles on different terrain. Is it the right blend of performance, style, functionality, and price? Get our full written review here: www.advpulse.com/adv-news/mot...
With its 853cc transverse-mounted air-cooled V-Twin with pushrod valvetrain, a dry clutch, shaft drive, and quirky character, this modern classic is one of the most unique mid-sized ADV Bikes on the market. The ‘Travel’ edition improves on the standard model’s long-range adventure capability with a set of ample-sized (33-liter left; 39-liter right) panniers, heated grips, taller windscreen, LED auxiliary lights, and a Bluetooth interface to connect phone features with the dash.
In this video we detail how it performed, where it excelled and some of its foibles. How capable is it in the dirt? Does it offer inspiring street performance? A comfortable cruiser for long-range travel? How does it match up to its mid-sized ADV counterparts? We answer these questions and more. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments!

@@alz2713 Mine dose not, but I did notice with my borescope this weekend there is a lot of carbon build up on the pistons. I may see what I can do to clean that out, may try a higher octane fuel now that I have completed the break in riding and the first maintenance.

Does the owners manual say that 87-89 octane ok? Carbon build up should not be due to lower octane gas but perhaps poor quality gas.

This gentleman absolutely gets it. He understood what the aim of MOTO GUZZI was, explored the limitations and advantages. Many reviewers resort to complaining and bitching and they ALWAYS expect to be impressed by something new because it exceeded their riding skills. Well done, thanks for sparing us the shit music and silly theatrics to compensate for lousy content.

After riding all sorts of bikes for the past 20 years you get to the point where character is what you really look for in a bike. To me Moto Guzzis really stand out for their unique motor setup - try to ride a few (also old ones) and you might get the hang of it and even become hooked on the feel and sound. There is a reason why there is people called Guzzisti who own, cherish and maintain their Guzzis for often a whole lifetime. If the character of your bike speaks to you it stops from being a pile of metal and starts to become a part of you and your life. Three in the garage and counting 😎👍🏻

Update: Purchased V85 march 21. Have over 12K miles about half of that on the trail including CDR. The V85 has performed exceptionally on and off road. Favorite tires Motoz tractionator ADV for adventuring. Continental trail max mission. For when not on the adventure. I did install mosco soft bags for the trail. Changed the pipe guards after tearing one side plate off on steps. This year removing the cat updating engine shield to full skid plate Love the bike! DRZ 400 still primary single track bike 2000 miles after 18 months.

Best review of the bike i have seen. A big plus with Guzzis not mentioned is the ease of servicing yourself. Oil changes (engine, gearbox, rear diff) and valve clearances (screw and locknut) are a major plus. The bike only ever has to see a dealer's workshop for electronics gremlins.

Probably the best review I’ve seen on this bike. Thank you ! I picked up a tt travel last year and absolutely love the bike. My second guzzi. To be noted, I find the lights to be amazing at night (if anyone is wondering ) also a deCat y pipe and a slip on exhaust really help this bike shave off some pounds, sound like a guzzi should , gives it some extra kick in the pants, significantly reduces how hot the bike runs and that heat the massive catalytic converter is no longer there. Update! - there is a fuel tune out there called UpMap if you do those exhaust mods

I have the non-adventure model, and after 5k miles on it, I find it to have performed flawlessly in everything I've done with it, which admittedly, is not too much. I don't go off road much, if at all, but I like knowing I can. The feel of the bike, the lean, the comfort, about a whisper of vibration, if any, and even when I'm tooling at 80 mph are all pluses. 6 gallon tank, heated grips, TFT, luggage cases, the Mogo engine rumble, yes, I'm totally happy with this bike.

Wow. The absolute best review of this bike that I’ve seen. And I couldn’t agree more. Italian build quality Is second to none. Thank you John. Character is the word. The character is what makes you love a bike. There are many awesome bikes out there ,but none rival the character. I have owned an 09 Stelvio that was my favorite bike to this day.... loads of Italian character and very capable. Personally have had it over many Colorado off road mountain passes. I however lured to the German side and have ended up on a 2010 R1200GS. I actually miss the build quality and character of the Stelvio. I can tell you this. The BMW is not more capable.

I own a V7iii and my ADV bike is an '11 GSA, so I have no reason to be loyal to one or the other as a lover of both MG and BMW. I've ridden the V85TT and loved it. The GSA is most assuredly in another class and is most assuredly more capable than the TT. That does not mean it is better. We're comparing a (when new) $25k 1200cc bike to a $14k 850cc bike. They both have their places and they are both capable.

I appreciate your excellent review of the V85TT (All Terrain) With a little over 10,000 miles on my 2020 model approximately 6000 on dirt. The dirt experience includes portions of the TAT and the norther half of the CDR as well as several BDR's. The Bike is so smooth and comfortable it is a joy to ride. Highway Comfort is important to me I generally ride to the trail and this can be 800-1000 miles. While I do not generally take it out into highly technical single track. The V85 performs well in sand, deep sand, gravel and dirt roads. steep gravel roads with steps and switchbacks typical of the rockies. The suspension is highly tunable with a few clicks of rebound and dampening you can handle much more technical terrain without bottoming out. The large 5.8 gallon tank keeps me comfortably in fuel on longer rides. I will average 50 on the highway and as much as 68 on the trail. (lower speeds). The bike does improve dramatically with better tires. While the Anakee adventure is a fantastic tire. Put a set of Anakee wild on and the handling improvement is dramatic. Other items that are surprising. The Eagle Headlight (Love It) the dimmer switch has a flash function that is superb at getting attention. There is an automotive two prong fused power supply under the seat USB on the panel. Oil change intervals and the ease of changing the oil and filter. Valve adjustment is a breeze. Ok I could go on and on I have been riding for a little over 47 years many many bikes. This is at the top of my list of favorites.
@sarahdell4042
@sarahdell4042 2 жыл бұрын
Have you had any reliability issues? Do the valves go out of spec within the 6k mile intervals? Is it hard to toss around in corners? Lastly how long would a set of street biased tires last with only highway use? Sorry for the million questions. Have a friend who’s looking at one, and doesn’t have a dealer nearby. I rode one when they came out, but cannot remember much other than it feeling very heavy.

Well presented & great, true review, first of all! On my NZ-tour, 6000km in total (North Island to South Island and back) on the standard V85 TT last year, I learned this bike well on different kind of road conditions and I 99% can confirm your review. Just an incredible bike, so much joy, relaxing and easy to ride long distances and so much fun in the twistys, too + good mileage capability! I just wished the engine could have more torque in lower revs, because if you want to pass a car, you have to down shift to get the right revs to reach enough power to pass. Or in other words, if you are in the wrong gear, the pickup of the bike is too slow to pass a truck or a car and it might get tight in traffic...with a pillion on the back its even worse...You need to get used to it and if you've learned it, you autom. will shift down before you pass another vehicle.... Anyway 10 horses more + more torque under 3,5k revs is missing in my humble opinion, other than that its an awesome bike... Cheers from German Ducati rider :-)

God bless you, Jon Beck! What an excellent review! Your reviewing exudes that rare quality of credibility, both "street cred" and "off road cred" whether explaining a plus or a minus. I'm not an off road rider, (at least not intentionally) but I enjoyed both the video and the printed review. If I attempted the off - pavement riding you demonstrated so well, I would soon need a Good Samaritan! I had the original V7 nearly 50 years ago. MG had a promotional picture of a restored 1967 V7 together with the V7 III Anniversario model in 2017. You know you're an old guy when you had the original version. I'm riding a V7 III Special now. Thanks so much!

Whilst researching for a new bike there are so many spec sheet reviews by vloggers/influencers banging on about TFT screens, performance compared to another bike, why it should have cruise control, quick shifter not as good as another make it gets so tiresome, BUT this did pop up on my suggested list and all I can say is that it's an excellent grounded review with just the right amount of technical specs to be informative. I really enjoyed that. 10 out of 10.

They are hand built in Italy, great quality, super simple to work on.

Thanks for a great review. The details you spent time are indeed very important to the overall ownership experience. I've got a well-cared-for DL1000 K4 I'll ride for about another year, and this - specially after this review - is one of the top choices, along with the Tracer 9 GT and the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport . The objective and subjective value of the V85 is undeniable. It's the golden age of motorcycles!

Great review,thank you. I bought the V85 centennial edition . I’ve done 2,000 kms now and really loving the bike. That engine noise is addictive. I’m planning a 3,000 km round trip from Jburg to Cape Town in early September. My only criticism of the bike is the wind noise. My bike came with the small screen which I found to be quite noisy/ turbulence. I Bought the larger touring screen but that doesn’t make much difference . I now wear ear plugs !! That certainly helps. By the way I’m 6ft 1:83 mtrs

Thanks for the good honest review and showing what the bikes capabilities are and what it can do when a skilled rider like you is on board; I just purchased a 2022 V85TT and being 69 years old it’s taking me a while to get used to it’s larger size especially with a full tank of gas; I also have a 2021 V7 850 Special that I like a lot but the V85TT is much more confidence inspiring to ride and seems light and balanced; for me the weights only really noticeable when trying to move it around. Thanks again John

Wow, great review! One of the best motorcycle reviews I’ve ever watched regardless of style of riding or bike! You got my sub even though I’m not yet an ADV rider. This bike has my interest though as I’m considering what’s the next bike to add to the garage? Maybe check out the ever increasing popularity of the middle weight ADV segment? It’s gaining popularity for a reason and watching you on those trails looks mighty fun!

The moment this bike hit the market, I was hooked. Possibly because it reminded me of my first bike, a 1983 Honda CX650E, which I loved. Thus I have watched innumerable reviews......and can ad my compliments to all the other commenters who recognize that is is the very best analysis I have ever heard. It is one thing to react to the superficial elements of any bike; it is another to have to live with and rationalize its “quirkiness”. You have given me more insight on the bike than all the other reviews combined. There is just one thing that still haunts me though, and prevents me from paying a visit to MG today...... and that is the dry clutch. It’s partly because I am not sophisticated enough to understand the practical riding implications of such, but also because I saw one review wherein the guy had to remove the entire motor from the bike (different model MG) in order to change the clutch. So my question is simply whether these are issues to be reasonably concerned about? Thanks again. Well done!

First time watcher of your reviews. I'm very impressed with your manner and the very usable information you impart. You get into the "how does it make you feel" aspect that is so important. I'm definitely following your reviews now. I want a 850TT pretty bad. It will have to wait as I am having a blast on my Kawasaki W800 Street. I guess I like distinctively out of the norm bikes.

I’m not too knowledgeable on Moto Guzzi but I’ve really been getting into them lately. Super classy bikes and that awesome transverse engine is a thing of art. Might have to look into picking on of these up, been wanting something I can take off the paved road.

By far the most thorough and well done video on the V85TT. So well that it was a big factor for getting one myself, and I love it. Only grip I have is the low seat height for me at 6ft, and the tiered style seat which I despise for its lack of positioning. Oh and also the crap tires they put on the basic model. Great for the street but not so much for any off-road use. Other than that, this is a fun bike that I always look forward to riding. I switched out the pegs, added crash bars, and a rear rack and it is ready to go. Great video and thanks to all at Moto Guzzi.
