What about loosening the engine mounts center bolts then putting the car in drive, supposedly its natural state or position, and then tightening all The Center bolts down? This is a step that was told to me by Honda technicians at the dealer in order to help also prevent binding but I didn't see you do that in this situation so what are your thoughts on that?

So a mechanic/friend of mine did this job on my 03 civic, I got the parts from a part store (cheap parts) and he put them in. Car vibrates like crazy now, I'm thinking of getting OEM parts and replacing the cheap ones, do you recommend starting with any particular mount? I'm hoping to not have to change them all out. I feel it in my gas petal and can see the steering wheel shake. Seems to get better when I drive at high speeds. Any help would be great. Great video BTW I feel like I can do this after watching this.

Dude love your content , quick question... I have a 03 civic and I think my engine mounts are bad, or at least one of them ... no vibration when I’m in park but when I drive all that’s wrong is a loud squeaky noise like a cricket.... bad engine mount???
@PaycoTsunami4 жыл бұрын
Yo Wyatt thanks man! What it sounds like to me is that its either your serpentine belt is getting old and ready to go or its your idler pulley. From a quick google search, it doesn't seem like our engine even has an idler pulley so we can toss that idea out. I'd just check the belts and twist it to see any cracks showing on the guides. (The underside of the belt). Another way to test the belt is leave the car on and open the hood. Grab a squirt bottle and toss abit of water on the belt. If the squeak goes away then you know where the problem is. If not then you're going to have to pin point where its coming from. Hopefully this helps out abit and perhaps toss you in the right direction!
@dmonster8089 ай бұрын
Any squeaky noise or creaking noise might be your front struts or rear shocks. Look at them And see if they are leaking or if it looks wet. My rear shocks were worn and squeaky. Replaced them and problem solved. Also might need to grease or lube bushings. Bounce the car up and down while using phone to record might find the issue.

I couldn’t break loose the bolt that goes through the center of the front lower mount. I had to remove the battery and the metal shelf that holds up the battery in order to break the bolt loose with an extension on the ratchet and 17mm socket and a metal pipe instead of a breaker bar. It worked.

My whole car shakes so much when at a conplete stop or when turned on could it also be the mounts
@PaycoTsunami3 жыл бұрын
Could be one of the causes, these cars are creeping up on 20 years now so if it hasn't been replaced than this might be the culprit. Rough idle could also cause shaking in the engine and that could be from spark plugs to a misfire in a cylinder. I would visually inspect them and if you see any cracking then go for the change, you'll definitely feel a difference!

Hello, great video man! I am trying to diagnose why my 2004 Honda Civic ex automatic thuds when gears shift as well as when you go from park to reverse/drive at times. Did your car do this as well with the bad motor mounts?
@PaycoTsunami2 жыл бұрын
100% Bad mounts but we can easily double check it though! 1. Have the car in a safe spot (Nothing valuable near it; Cars, kids, pets, etc.) 2. Have a friend/family member help out ( You need two people) 3. Pop the hood & have you or friend/family look @ the engine 4. Start the car 5. Foot on brake (Never take it off) 6. Shift the car from Park to Drive to reverse to Park slowly 7. If you or someone who is watching the engine see's the engine moving forcibly back & forth with every change , your mounts are Audi 5000 (They're shot, need new ones)

How long did it really took you to do all this? And what do you mean not to preload your mounts, does that mean that don't tighten it with your torque barrel all the way to the end?? When you already lower the thing right
@PaycoTsunami8 ай бұрын
Preload the mounts I meant without the weight of the engine while tightening them up, It’ll cause early mount failure if you have the weight of the engine on them. Took me longer than most because of the camera so tbh around half a day or so

I’ve done an engine mount passenger side on an rsx base before .Vibration is still kinda there .I think it’s because I tighten everything all the way before releasing the jack .could that be a possible reason why it still slight vibrates ?Maybe not aligned the right way ?Great video btw very informative .
@PaycoTsunami4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It could definitely be a possibility, as someone stated in the comments below that I pinned, I didn't load a certain mount properly. To this day I still have a weeeeeee bit of vibration even though these are honda made mounts but it's definitely not as bad as it used to be since they were torn. If it's an easy mount to get too, go for it! Engine misfire is also a possibilty or if its steering wheel vibration, look into your rack and pinion.

PLEASE tell me where i can find the front engine mount long bolt holding it to the frame because the dealership gave me a 12x88mm flange bolt but the two clamps you bolt through are 15mm wide in diameter…so i cannot find a 15x88mm flange bolt how did you find it or do you know where i could buy one?
@PaycoTsunami2 жыл бұрын
I’d go back to the dealership & ask for the correct bolt. They should have a diagram of the correct bolts for the front mount, if you need this one specifically it’s a 04 Civic EX. Another way is to head to your local junkyard & depending on what kind of junkyard they’ll give it to you for less than $3 if they get it for you or you get it yourself. These bad bois are all over the place, I’m pretty confident you can definitely grab one 💯
@benjaminchazer3922 жыл бұрын
i did go to the dealership! and they gave me a 12mm that rattles around inside the to clamps on the frame i took a metric space ruler and it came out to 15.03mm or something like that i argued with them on the phone for an hour cuz they had no idea what they were talking about and just mislead me constantly

Why do those weird rubber moldings on the transmission mount matter? My 01 civic ex doesn't have them. Should I try to find some
@PaycoTsunami3 жыл бұрын
Tbh if its not there I wouldn't worry about it and from what I saw I don't think they sell them individually either. Pretty sure the rubber helps dampen vibration in some way or make sure debris doesn't get into the mount but that's just my speculation. Hope your mount change went smoothly!

one of my engine mounts bolt/studs (cone on top) was loose when i got my 02 civ ex 2nd hand. just ignored it. after about putting like 70k more miles on it the whole bracket collapsed on the front left engine mount lol. the engine fell and all the belts were scrapping against stuff under the hood. I feel like ive read about this happening but thought it was just boomers trying to justify pouring money into an old car. anyways, i think i found the part at a local auto parts store. Im buying the entire mount since im guessing its all fubard, but none of the listings anywhere say if the front left engine mount assembly comes with the bracket (the thing on mine that broke in two). judging from ur video it looked like u were sent a new motor mount bracket.... so hopefully when the parts arrive im good to go. thx

The bolt you have connected to the engine and motor mount do you know anywhere I can get them ? When driving my Honda Civic both two bolts popped out and there now no threading so it’s not grasping the bolt anymore and we’re trying to replace them any way you could lead us into the right direction ?
@PaycoTsunami3 жыл бұрын
Honestly it would be Honda itself, they would tell you the right length/thread pitch. Just explain which mount bolt(s) fell out and they can give you the specs to either A) Buy it directly from Honda since they would sell it or B) Get the bolt from a local hardware store if you get the length/thread pitch and grade of the bolts that fell out. Hope you get it situated!
@AllThingsFabrication3 жыл бұрын
Are the stripped threads in the transmission/engine, or are the threads on the bolts stripped? If the stripped threads are in the transmission or engine, you will need to repair the threads with something like a Timesert. These are pricy, but about the only way to reliably replair the stripped threads in a block or casting. You will have to have access (space) to drill out the hole with the supplied kit, rethread the hole for the insert using the included tap, and then install the insert per the instructions.

Hey bro, my civic ‘04 jerks when I let off the gas on low gears (1-3). Could this be a sign of a bad engine mount?
@PaycoTsunami4 жыл бұрын
Best bet to see if your mounts are bad is to put in park, pop the hood, and rev the engine. You definitely could tell if its your mounts when the engine rocks back and forth! My opinion, it could be transmission related or mount related but do that test to make sure if its mount related. I wish you luck on your build!

If you do a visual inspection, they are usually cracked, or completely torn through if they are bad. You can easily see if the mounts are bad for the front and drivers side pieces. The other two mounts are more difficult to inspect because they are buried a little more.
