I just got my Sportage hybrid last Friday and I’m absolutely loving it! I got the Xline and I actually took a lift 90 miles away to Lancaster because they told me if I came in that day to buy instead of charging me $6000 over sticker they would only charge $2000 and pay for my ride. I was very happy with Valley Kia and I’m very happy with the car but I may wind up trading it in very soon because I want the top of the line and then white instead of the gray that I got. It’s just a personal choice And I will lease and save about $250 a month by doing so by trading up. I wanted all of the features and I wanted the white color and they were absolutely not available right away. And I did consider the plug-in RAV4 but I’d much rather save the money and try out Kia for once and see what it’s like and I love the design so much better than the RAV4.

I bought a new Camry hybrid because of the Toyota hybrid track record, my first Toyota and I came out of a Kia product. But I also purchased with cash and plan to own it a long time, if I was leasing I might have felt different, Hyundai/Kia usually have better rates. And I extended the warranty to 5 years, Toyota should definitely be 5 years B2B standard!

As a former Kia owner, I traded in my almost 10 year old car for my Venza last year (sister car to the RAV4 Hybrid). I found my Kia to be quite reliable for about 6 years, but in the last 3 years I owned it, it needed about $7000 worth of repairs on various things that didn't seem to hold up long term (and a few of the issues were quite expensive). Now, the good news is I bought an extended warranty, so it was all covered under that, but even making warranty claims always seemed like a hassle. Also, I had to bring the vehicle back numerous times to fix the issue, so in my experience, the service level was pretty below average. If they couldn't handle repairs right the first time around on a regular car, I wouldn't be overly confident they'd manage any better with a more complex vehicle with a turbo and hybrid powertrain. I chose to replace my Kia with a Toyota Hybrid as they are known to be the most reliable vehicles on the planet and I am hopeful the dealership experience will be better (it can't be worse than the Kia dealership was). Lastly, regarding "Cablegate", the issue is the cable that connects to the rear motor mounts facing "up", which allows salt/water to creep into the connector housing and pool, which will corrode and damage the connector over time. This issue only affects 2019-2021 models. The newer ones have a cover that helps protect the connector/motor better and I think they may have reversed the connector position (so it now faces down).

I have a 21 Venza limited fully loaded. Question for you; in US gallons are you able to pump more than 11 gallons when nearly empty? Toyota says Venza has a 14.5 gallon tank and highway mpg over 500 miles. In almost 12,000 miles and 1- extended driving trip of over 2500 miles, I’ve been unable to get more than 425 miles range on 1-tank. My dealer has had the car twice to try to remedy the issue but has failed. Toyota corporate has been notified but they are inept. Plenty of complaints from owners on Venza forums. Can’t complain about the mpg as it’s been as advertised. Btw. the tires are terrible in the snow and are very loud with increasing miles. Good luck with your Venza purchase.

All your numbers are off by exactly $500 US for the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Every trim model is $500 more on the Toyota website in the US. And worth noting you're comparing the 2023 Sportage vs. the 2022 RAV4. I'm sure those prices will get a bump up for the new 2023 RAV4 model with the updated interior infotainment screen. I just spent 2 weeks researching both of these vehicles, watching every video and reading every article I could find on the two. Yesterday I ordered the Sportage hybrid. Also, local Kia dealerships are saying 4-6 months for the Sportage Hybrid, while Toyota dealership says RAV4 is over a year wait supposedly. I like them both for different reasons, and both have pluses and minuses. Neither is perfect, but I don't think you can go wrong with either one, I think the Sportage Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid are both great choices. EDIT: Great videos by the way. Informative and easy to watch.

Very good review, I had hard time deciding between the 2. What leaned me toward RAV4 is the shifter. Kia has a dial that I don’t understand but sure looks like it’s not like the RAV4 where you can manually shift it. Being from Buffalo NY, I’ve learned that down shifting in snow is far more effective than ABS braking by itself. When I look for a vehicle, I need to see that I have control of the drive system. That dial thing on the Sportage does not tell me what I’m looking for. So far I have not seen anyone comment on that.

10-31-23 "CableGate"...since your video, has now been resolved. In the USA Toyota has sent out letters to those affected hybrid owners, that an 8 year of 100k mile warranty on the cable in question now exists. I recd my letter I believe about 8 months ago. They will inspect the hybrid vehicle for free if it is exhibiting symptoms like a defective cable and if it is the issue, they will also replace it for free. I am very happy with that. In Canada my understanding is that affected hybrid owners, also recd a warranty/ free replacement if the cable has failed due to corrosion (per articles I have read) for a similar period of time.

DETROIT -- Hyundai and Kia are telling the owners of nearly 485,000 vehicles in the U.S. to park them outdoors because they can catch fire even if the engines have been turned off. The recalls from the two Korean automakers are another in a long string of fire and engine failure problems that have dogged the companies for the past six years. This should sum up Kia/Hyundai vehicles.

@pierrec.55162 жыл бұрын
Andrea and Zack both said (a few times) that the Kia was quiet so I doubt the cabin is noisier than the Toyota. The Toyota's interior is so utilitarian, they are far behind many competitors in this area. I also would be very reluctant to spend my hard earned dollars on the idea that the company is going to "make things right" on a known defect. I have a friend that just bought a new RAV4 and spent over a thousand dollars getting the extended warranty to protect himself from the risk of a cable problem. Toyota should fix things now or I think they risk losing sales to their competitor.

@robertpreston27702 жыл бұрын
Competitive capitalism will drive them there to some degree. As an example, Honda has lost huge market share of new sales due to supply issues. Got to believe they are going to want to produce and incent enough to try and win most of that back as they overcome their supply issues. At the same time, Hyundai and others who have taken that share are not going to want to give it up. Car makers will produce enough cars to the extent they can increase overall market share/revenues/profits without letting margins get to low per car. Also, a car maker who has more to chose from off the lot will typically increase sales better than one who has les and longer order intervals.

Whish you had some test drive fuel comsumtion figures to add. Seen quite a few owners of Kia/Hyundai Hybrid who says the get about 24-29 MPG far from stated and that does not impress on modern 2022 hybrid.
@bradstoops8862 Жыл бұрын
I don't have much to go on, but I hear that the Kia is getting close to, sometimes better stated MGP (if they learn how to leverage the electric). I hear that the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is a bit disappointing.

Brand new vehicles and you still need to buy a dash cam. They have a backup camera but no distance number? Ever backup in a parkade, you need to know if your a foot or a meter away from that pillar.

According to a friend who worked as a Hyundai Technician, don't buy a Kia/Hyundai unless you want to roll the engine replacement dice. Buy the Rav4.

I am from Toronto and currently in a dilemma to choose between the two. Sportage hybrid SX trim is bit expensive than RAV4 XLE premium Hybrid (with 2 year extended warranty), but Toyota’s higher interest rate covers it. So is it safe to buy Sportage hybrid full option in Canada without any extended warranty or better to go with RAV4 with relatively less features?
@mayankpatel9192 Жыл бұрын
I think lot of factors would help you make decision 1. Do you want your car to look classy from both inside outside? --> Sportage 2. Do you want faster Pickup ? --> RAV4 ( bigger engine) 3. Howmuch can you wait ? Rav4 has atleast 1 and half year waiting , Sportage SX you may get in 6-8 months considering more people go for PHEV EX/SX Exclude warranty part from your decision for a second and make the decision. If you like Kia, you can always purchase warranty for $50K+ vehicle at the time of final paperwork.

Did I miss something here. Where is the zero to sixty acceleration tests? Where are the braking tests and comparisons.. in my opinion the testing results are.critical. How about comparing the turning radius and overall vehicle weight….

I wonder how long the KIA will run reliability? There is a reason you can’t find the RAV4 anywhere.

You can’t find the Sportage anywhere either. Most dealerships are marking up more than $5000 for the new Sportage. I went to 3 dealership and only found 2 Sportage

We all know the answer to that…just ask the 8.5 million people affect by the engine failures and fire recalls for 2012 - 2020 Kia/Hyundai models.

I’ve recently advised two individuals to check out the KIA (along with the Toyota) as each where looking for this size of CUV. Neither wanted to even consider the KIA as an option, even if it were significantly cheaper, better equipped or nicer (interior). I was quite honestly surprised. Unfortunately for KIA (and fortunately for Toyota) is still struggling with an identity problem or perceived brand quality issues. Its too bad as the Koreans offer quite an attractive option looks and price-wise. Thanks for the video.

Note: neither individuals were car people (knowledge wise).

It hard to break a bad reputation when your vehicles are being recalled for engine failures, excessive oil consumption, and fire recalls for model years 2012-2020. Hell, even the 2020 G80 had a fire recall 😂
