I was unable to attend the following night US tour ender in my hometown of NYC and this video both kicks my ass rightfully so for my inability to say F it to what I ended up doing that night and kicked my ass by the end of watching it because it showed me what I missed and what I missed was a rather iconic performance by a rather iconic band. Bill Busha, this is one of the greatest uploads unto utube as I've ever had the pleasure of being steered to one (thanks Jason Rubin for the FB share!). It certainly would have been one of the best two hours spent in a venue had I been able to attend. Long Live Mott!

That show in Atlanta was mind-blowing it was fun nominal no pun intended. It really pleases me to see them on stage and they sound fantastic my hats off to Ian Hunter and the rest of the band for doing this, at this stage of the game they're doing this for their fans. Replying 4 years later: I went instead to the Chicago Theatre to see them in this same tour (late 2019), and although the crowd was mostly in their 50s-70s, there were many many other attendees who were obviously much younger, all the way down to 20s and teens. Check him out in the UK's most underrated band, Spooky Tooth, where he played before Mott under his real name Luther Grosvenor. On the albums Spooky Two and Ceremony, as well as on the rare live bootlegs in circulation, he cuts loose at a level rarely heard at that time. Evil Woman [not the Jeff Lynne song!] one of the best examples. ST was all in all a fabulous band, with Greg Ridley on bass and Mike Harrison on vocals, and we are quite a few who still ponder why they never reached the commercial success they deserved.

I saw Mott February/March of 74. Queen was suppose to open. Never heard of them at the time. Aerial Bender and Ian were battling for the spot light. It seemed that they were actually fighting. Then they destroyed the Marionettes attached to the drum stage with the Tommy gun guitars. Very memorable show. Oh some never heard of band called Kansas was brought up from Chicago to replace Queen. One of them had a violin in hand....not very rock n roll was the thought. Soon after that we saw ELO very early in their career. We began to view the violin a bit differently, then we saw Starship with Papa John Creech, that made it okay.

About Ariel and Ian - just read this in an interview: "Looking back on his role, Grosvenor (Ariel Bender) says when asked if he had been scripted by the band, "No, down to me completely free agent. On tour, I grabbed center stage, and tormented Ian by saying it’s my show not yours, and he pulled and pushed me across stage. After the show we said well that worked and we kept it in. The audience maybe thought there was a problem, but no problem at all, just great fun. There was no set play, or structure, just a do what you have to approach." rockguitardaily.blogspot.com/2012/03/ariel-benderluther-grosvenor-jeckyl-or.html
