I enjoyed this one. FWIW, that last image you showed, the one from the morning, was my favorite. I don't know if there's a way to even out the luminosity on the left and right sides a bit but I loved the look and feel. Also, as long as I'm commenting, I have to compliment you on your "set". Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoy the videos. This video was mostly shot with the GFX 50R, but the camera I used for the shots was the XT3. I did a couple of videos on this trip that covered processing, a couple from last year in the Dolomites, and there are two from this year in Iceland that I published recently....as well as the Lightroom and Capture One video I did. There'll be two more from my last trip to the Dolomites up soon, and next year I intend to do one or two from each of the 8 trips I've got planned, so there should be plenty more to come.

Thanks, Andy! As always, another interesting and helpful video. Gorgeous Dolomite images. It looks like your shutter release is sticking out of the right side of your X-T3-true? I've been unable to use one with my X-T2 and an L-bracket because it goes in the left side and I can't mount the camera on my tripod in vertical/portrait position. Enjoyed your processing workflow-I haven't ventured into C1 yet, but it certainly seems to work well for you. Perhaps you could do a video on the advantages of C1 over LR. Thanks again.
@hamdc42915 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. I managed to get around that problem by using the Kirk L bracket for the XT2 and using a low cost shutter release with a right angle fitting into the pin connection on the Xt2. You have to have the L bracket extended out quite a way from the body but it's a very well built bracket and it does allow you to then use the release in the vertical position.
@chirsd6665 жыл бұрын
The X-T3 does have the remote connection on the right hand side. Kaizen :)

Hi Robert, thanks for the comment, glad you like the video. Yes, as you noticed the cable release is now on the other side of the camera so it works with an L bracket now.

Thanks for the great video Andy! I’m trying out the free 30 day version in C1 right now. I had no clue that you couldn’t do pans with it! I hope they can add this later on. I’d rather not pay for 2 programs just to use that... Do you know if C1 automatically adds sharpening when you import? Thanks!

Thanks for the comment. I can’t remember if C1 sharpens by default (I’m travelling without my laptop at the moment so don’t have access to C1) but I suspect it doesn’t.
@oldgrumpyjim50035 жыл бұрын
On the editing side of Andy's vlog I know I'm maybe a bit late with this but thought it might help those who are thinking of moving to C1 from Lightroom Classic CC. I have been using both side by side for about a year now and have found the following. For Xtrans files C1 does do a good job especially with skin tones and does give a nice overall softer look to the image, however, if you process the file in Iridient within Lightroom the clarity and detail is better especially for landscapes ( I know this is not everything) and forget about the latest 'Enhance Detail Slider' too slow. Believe me I have looked for reasons to move to Capture One but if I'm completely honest Lightroom Classic CC with Iridient X is better. If you are setting out in the game look at Capture One but if you are heavily invested in Lightroom and photoshop think carefully! While it may be an alternative to Lightroom it cannot replace Photoshop. I feel that many are moving to C1 and then having to move back later. C1 is a great price just now (half price) and I will continue to use it (tethering) but beyond that probably not as from a business point of view its not any better than adobe camera raw.

Hi, Andy. Wonderful video and very cool images! Now that some time has passed, what did you conclude about Capture 1 for RAF files? Does it render them better than LR? Have you made Capture 1 your primary app for post? Thanks for the update.

Hi, I’d say that Capture One definitely renders better than Lightroom. At the moment I still use it 50/50 with Lightroom but I’ll probably move over to Capture One. When I do, I’ll make some videos on it.

Great video Andy! I have a Canon 60D with Sigma 17 to 50mm lens. What more do I need to get started in mountain photography? Cheers Hamish
@AndyMumford5 жыл бұрын
Is the 60D an APS-C sensor (sorry, I don't know). You basically need a wide angle lens, which on an APS-C would be around 12-24mm, and a telephoto lens of around 50-140mm (APS-C). Then just a polariser and a very lightweight tripod.

How do you get away with high quality output in lightroom importing Fuji Files? I use capture one for all my editing, but I want to use light room for panos and blending (working between lightroom and photoshop).
@AndyMumford4 жыл бұрын
I use both C1 and LR (depends on the image) and don't really have a problem with LR (although it has to be said, I'm no pixel peeper). I just have all sharpening set to 0 and only sharpen the output file (for web or print)
@SamBugas4 жыл бұрын
@@AndyMumford I see, that makes a lot of sense. I've taken up the habit of pixel peeping, but I'm constantly reminded its a habit worth kicking. Hi I am using Capture One pro since version 8. For fujifilm First year of using it I was going back and forth with LR 5/6 but after investing time, and watch Phase one webinars and the new features of Pro12 I am loving it and do my whole workflow in it. The only thing I miss from LR is the Panoramas but I don’t need it often. I found C1 so much better not only for image quality but also for working with sessions. Customizing several workspaces (cull, edit, double screen). The finesse of adjustments.
@AndyMumford5 жыл бұрын
Hi Justin, thanks for the comment, glad you liked the video. I would say C1 certainly gives you the best raw conversion for Fuji...there’s just more details there and no smearing (although I only find I get smearing in LR if I apply sharpening).

Really enjoyed all your works here, BTW how can I inport a fuji DNG file which created by LR and need to be edit in C1? I've using LR to make 5 expose bracket images into a HDR dng file, but my C1 seems can not find this DNG file in the inporting window,. Do you have any idea what happens?
@AndyMumford5 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I can't seem to make it work either. I don't think C1 recognises Adobe DNGs (although it's fine with Fuji DNGs created in camera). You might have to convert them to TIFF

I have, but I'm a little impatient with learning new software, and with LR, PS and C1 I'm happy enough with the results that I don't feel that urge or necessity to spend time getting to know it better.
@williamstatt86515 жыл бұрын
Just wondering why you didn't level the camera before shooting. Looks like it was dropping from left to right. Also it looks like you were using a circular polarizing filter. Doesn't that change the exposure as you change the angle to the light source?
@AndyMumford5 жыл бұрын
Hi William. The camera is actually level, but because I’m not using a pano head the base of the head was a little off level, so when the camera swung around it moved off level a little. It’s usual with my panos and why I always compose to fit more in than I need. The CPL would be a bad idea if I was shooting a wider range of the...for example 90 degrees or more and shooting with a relatively wide focal length, but because I’m shooting a small part of the scene with a tele photo the actual angle of the lens to the sun changed so little as to not really be noticeable.

why don't you use the panorama function on XT-3?
@AndyMumford5 жыл бұрын
Because it only shoots panoramas in JPEG and also you can only choose 2 angles (120º or 180º). It's OK for a quick pano to post on Facebook, but doesn't really have any quality.
@thomaszilch5 жыл бұрын
Andy, thanks for the great video! One Question: Is it a Nisi-Polarizer you are using while taking the panorama?
@AndyMumford5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes, that is a NiSi polarizer...although this was the last trip I used it as I ve switched completely to screw in circular filters now (I no longer use grads so don’t need square filters)
@thomaszilch5 жыл бұрын
Andy, you write that you're not using grads anymore. I find that interesting, because as a Fuji user I don't want to switch to the big 150 filters. But with the new XF8-16/2.8 I'd be forced to. That's why I'm looking for other solutions. Instead, do you do bracketing where you used to use a grad?
@AndyMumford5 жыл бұрын
Thomas Zilch yes, I just bracket shots now and merge them either autipomatically in LR or manually in PS. I still use regular NDs for long exposures though, and it’s impossible to use them with the 8-16 with it using the big 150mm filters
