I have a 2007 Z06 and I agree with pretty much all you said. For me the extra performance does matter, and mine has heads/cam/intake and is making 621whp. The Z is definitely better looking, handles better, much faster etc… However, I do miss removing the top and the overall ease of driving the base. It was plenty fast and was much more joyful to drive on day to day activities (gym, store etc…. ) The Z is much more fun when going on an actual DRIVE with no destination.

Thank you! I should have mentioned those Toyo R888R tires, they're clearly not stock and could make more noise than stock. It's certainly tricky reviewing older cars, not only to find them in good shape like this, but also in as close as stock shape as possible so I have an idea what they were like from the factory. This was a great example, I was lucky to drive it as long and fast as I did!

The Z06 hood scoop is sorta-fake. It DOES let some air into the engine bay, but it's not feeding directly into the engine air intake. So in theory it helps cool the engine a tad...But mostly I think it's for looks.

I think the last analog Corvette was a early chrome bumper C3. The only thing digital in them was the radio😂, maybe. I have a “new to me” C4 corvette convertible, and there is an ECU, antilock brake system, and several other digital amenities/systems in it. But the later years C6 Z06 sound very good! What about a C5 Z06? Have you tested one of those yet? There is something to say for having just enough power that you can use all of it on the road or on the track. Let’s face it, it is extremely rare that anybody can use more than 650 horsepower SAFELY anywhere! There are exceptions, but for the most part, too much horsepower leads to issues! Nice video!
@RetroCarsForever2 ай бұрын
Thank you! And yes, if you're STRICTLY talking no digital equipment whatsoever, you're right that the earlier C3s would be the last to fit that description. I just mean the C6 is the last Corvette with analogue things like a proper manual, analogue gauges, and mechanical handbrake (as well as lacking other digital bits and bobs that are littered throughout the C7 and C8). You're also absolutely right about 650 hp...I just don't see the point on public roads. I'd rather be able to use ALL the power on the street, and you just can't when it gets ludicrous output levels. IMO, 505 hp in this C6Z is about the maximum that you can safely enjoy.

Same here! That said, I know many Corvette owners who never remove their tops. The C7 is a terrific car, and more polished, but it's not really "analog" anymore, the visibility from inside is much worse, and it's nowhere near as good looking (to my eyes anyways). As for the valve drop issue...When researching this, it actually has little to do with how the car is driven. It was a manufacturing anomaly that can strike anyone at anytime at any rev! So it's certainly a negative, but do it once for a few grand, and it won't be an issue ever again. If you want more power out of a C4 there’s way easier ways to do it (the 383 cubic inch upgrade for example).

It's cool, but it's a tough decision between this or a 997. Though 500hp is no joke! That's tempting in a car that can handle those backroads!
@RetroCarsForever2 ай бұрын
Heh, around Los Angeles, its the opposite...I see 10 Porsches for every Corvette! I have driven a 997, and I liked it...I think they're an easier car to drive every day, they have a nominal back seat, and they have better steering/shifting/brake feel than the C6. But a 997 is just not as dramatically fun as the C6. The 997 feels sterile by comparison, they're much harder and more expensive to maintain, the interior plastics are even worse, and they cost quite a bit more to purchase. They're nice cars, but for my money, a Corvette delivers a lot more for the dollar. Plus, you can get them in fun colors...Most Porsches are only available in bland neutral colors.

@RetroCarsForever I can see that. I'm over in Kentucky, where they make the corvette! So I see tons, and they are mostly driven slowly by older guys haha. I haven't driven a c6, but I've always wanted to just to see what it's like. You can't beat the classic big engine rwd combo for fun. Especially with a good chassis, good suspension tuning and low weight. Yes, most 997's I see on the market are silver, grey, black or white. Porsche does have cool colors, but the ones with a PTS color command a heavy price. If only porsche made a 928 of the same era to compete with the vette. 🤔 Thanks for the reply. @@RetroCarsForever - Agreed. It’s the only reason I haven’t bought the C7 or C8. The C6 is just about perfect in terms of aesthetics.

I would argue the C6 ZR1 with 638hp was pretty awesome. Or the new C8 ZR1 with 1,064hp…. 😬

Clearly they're awesome cars! But my issue with the C6 ZR1is...I just cant fathom how the extra 10 percent in performance over the Z06 makes it worth double the price. At that $80k-100k price range, the ZR1 becomes too valuable to actually enjoy...Almost every one you see for sale has ridiculously low miles. So I think they're for rich guys and collectors only...The Z06 is the one you want if you actually want to ENJOY the drive!

@@RetroCarsForever it is pricey and more rare. I’m a drag racer though, all about power for me lol.
