Not to mention how it's genuinely a much better abuser of Tera than it was of Dynamax. Tera in practice is a lot mord impactful for his survivability (getting rid of that horrid typing is in many cases much much better than simply doubling its HP, and Tera gives it better versatility than Dynamax overall. Don't take me wrong, it was also probably the best or at least one of the best abusers of Dynamax, it's just arguably better at using Tera), and it's also as a result probably the best Tera user in the game. I am sure that it will be allowed in Gen 10 and will somehow also abuse the new mechanic to hell and back

Same logic as yugioh, effects got so out of control that things with conditions are not only handed out without the prob, but even have some moves get two or three secondary effects. Then you get cases where a signature move is so cracked with its hyper specific user due to its ability that even when smeagle copies it that the move is also extra busted still despite the lack of ability.

Well, it is a normal type move (i.e., no super effective hits, which I'd consider a drawback in itself) coming from a 105 base special attack onto bulkier-than-average mons. Most restricted legendaries from the first four gens can output more power than that.

I do like, that legendaries represent the mythologies of a certain region. In competitive however I would really love to know how a real world meta would look like, because not everybody would have access to them like in Smogon or VGC. Besides that I think, that a lot of cool gimmicks, attacks and type combinations get taken away by these Pokémon, that could have otherwise been used for some more unique "regular" Pokémon. And both the Paradox-Pokémon, aswell as the Ultra-Beasts have way to high stats for what they are actually supposed to stand for (regular Pokémon in their respective timezone/universe). So I am actually quite happy, that some of the Legendaries don't return to the newer gens. I mean if everybody ist special, no one is.

I think Ultra Necrozma is still a bigger loss than Stellar Terapagos, because the whole concept of Necrozma is that it lost its power and original form, so the whole concept of the Pokemon feels incomplete without the Ultra-form. Terapagos I think works better without its gimmick form since its ability still conveys the idea behind it pretty well and they could adjust how Tera Starstorm works outside Gen 9 to also give the idea of a Pokemon that has the power of all the types in it. Similar I don't see a big loss in Ogerpons special forms since the masks still add a form change even without crystalization.

Nope, all it needed was (after a bit of story) to be tutored a flying typed (and therefore STAB) version of one of the best fighting type moves in the game, Close Combat, so not only did you not need an item to Mega, but the prerequisite is one of the most powerful moves it can learn at all.

urshifus gmax forms are gone and ogerpon will lose its tera forms. while urshifu never needed them, gmax still felt very integral to it's lore. plus the white with either red or blue accents just look so cool. ogerpon will still be good but losing out on tera will nerf it a lot.

While not in any game that was competitive, an Arceus that finally had the anime upgrade we all thought it would get would have made it insanely strong if ever legal. I think the issue's gonna be solved once they want a game with international championships but can't justify having trainers packing all generational mechanics on their teams. The solution's rather simple: keep the mechanics, but limit it to 1 per team. Like, I still think having megas + Z-moves was a bit too much in gen 7, they should've forced players to choose which tool they wanted for their specific kit. Since we already have open team sheets, it would just play an extra part on the information game. With that method, you can have Ultra Necrozma and Terapagos terastal available on restricted formats while also not overloading the teams with too many gimmicks. It also keeps other stuff like the Terastal forms of Ogerpon and avoids absolutely broken combos like Mega ray + a primal. As for primal grouddon/kyogre, just ban the orbs XD we had the Soul Dew banned for god knows how long in previous gens, I think they can justify a ban on those 2 items for the sake of balance

Each gimmick was associated with a key item, so they could make it, so you had to choose one key item to have active. A mega braclet, a Z-ring, a dynamax band, or a terra orb. I think for the Primals, you could restrict them to the mega braclet and add them to the once per battle restriction without removing the instant transformation upon entering.

They could also just rework Stellar Terapagos as an independent form gimmick, instead of having to program in Terastalization just for it. Say, it’ll enter its Stellar Form under new conditions (like half HP, using Tera Starstorm, etc), and Tera Starstorm would just be a Normal-Type move that hits everything for neutral damage. Alternatively, if they don’t go that route and we’re stuck with Terastal Terapagos, just demote it to the tier of non-banned Legendaries, like the Birds or smth. But buff Tera Starstorm so it’s a spread move without needing to Terastalize, just so Terapagos has something to offer

One idea I personally had in mind was for base Necrozma to be able to use a new key item on it, Prism Fragment (referring to its lost body piece), which when used, would turn it into Ultra Necrozma permanently, allowing it to use those unused walk and run animations from USUM's files and letting it use other items that isn't its own Z-crystal. Missing from this video: Mega Latios, Mega Latias, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, both forms of Gmax Urshifu, and alll four Terastal forms of Ogerpon. The megas are simply buffs to the lati twins and mewtwo, and honestly were on the weaker side of mega's since most of the time you'd rather use a different mega to buff a different member of your team, and especially something like Latios was already a very competent pick. Mega Mewtwo Y was probably used the most of these, as an orignial psyspammer, and would be likely absolutely insane in a format with expanding force, though Mega Rayquaza and other Megas would still probably outshine it. Urshifu never truly needed or honestly used it's gmax forms in serious competition, though it was very cool and built on it's lore quite a bit. Plus, in Gmax form only it was allowed to break through even Max Guard, similar to how it ignores regular protect with unseen fist. Ogerpon's terastal forms are worth noting, as they don't change the base stats of Ogerpon like terastalizing with Terapagos does, but they do alter the ability, change the type to a monotype determined by the mask, and give a one-time stat buff to a stat (Grass Speed, Fire attack, Water spdef, and Rock defense). Currently, these plus the forms you listed in the video (Mega Rayquaza, Primal Kyogre/Groudon, Ultra Necrozma, Eternamax Eternatus, and Stellar Terapagos) are the only forms of legendary pokemon that are absolutely tied to a generational gimmick that has the potential of never returning in a pokemon game again.

As far as mons that existed for a single generation, there are a few more I can think of. Spiky eared pichu, cosplay pikachu, and ash greninja are the ones off the top of my head. While greninja was lucky enough to be in both sets of gen 7 games, both cosplay pikachu and Ultra Necrozma were single set-of-games mons. I believe pichu was just hgss as well, but I don’t know for sure.

I think what will happen to Terapagos is that it will get the 100% Zygarde treatment, meaning when it reaches 50% or below it will absorb the energy around it and terastalize into stellar form, removing terrain and weather that may be active and making Tera Starstorm be Stellar type (also hopefully in gen 10 they will make Terapagos get regular STAB on it since it doesnt get it now).

Maybe Terapagos in gen 10 can transform by using terastar storm, like ultra necrozma You can click the move turn one, transform, and then attack turn 2 with a spread move that can't be resisted by anything It would be kinda cool

If they bring back stellar terapagos I think the best idea would be just having the teraorb in your inventory. It wouldn't affect much the current lore, Pokémon can only terastalize in Paldea, due to Area Zero's terastal power, Kitakami, due to the influence of the lake, and Blueberry Academy due to Area Zero rocks held at the top of the terrarium. Terapagos obviously has an influence in terastalization, but environmental factors also affect it, so you could just argue that, outside of these environments, Terapagos's power is just enough for itself to terastalize

I think it's entirely possible that the loss of Terapagos' Stellar form will also mean the loss of Terapagos' status as a restricted legendary pokemon, allowing it to be used outside of restricted formats to make up for it's power loss.

I think it’s also worth mentioning that Zacian and Zamazenta lost the secondary effect of their signature moves since dynamax is gone. They’re obviously both still in the game, but it feels like a part of their identities are lost

The good news is that there are ways to bring them back. Just add ultra-necroznium z as a hold item like red and blue orbs, and do the same for Terapagos. Make the Tera Orb a held item. You can’t make the “it’s too strong” argument with Calarex around

Here's my theory for Gen 10 Terapagos if Tera is removed. Tera Starstorm becomes its regular signature move. Using it will make it turn into its Stellar form, and Tera Starstorm hits *all* targets for neutral damage. Even now, Stellar Terapagos's stat spreads aren't the greatest relative to previous legendaries because it still needs to set up with Calm Mind.

Terapagoss is probably going to get a "tera-shard" item that allows it to stellar tera after generation 9. Being the only pokemon that carries the gimmick cross generation and still limiting itself to stellar starstorm spam. If gamefreak thanos snaps it, it would be uncalled for.

I think Terapagos could be buffed when terastylization is gone; make Tera Starstorm stellar (may or may not be spread), and make terapagos' special attack 130. That way it's not stupidly busted without terastylization but actually justifiable as a restricted legendary

Terrapagos is probably the easiest pokemon to change around going forward. Make the tera shift form it's base form, have it's ability adopt the properties of the stellar typing or some variation of it, where it doesn't take any damage that would be super effective would just be effective (maybe a little more sauce making it's normal moves have no resistances?), and make the Teraform Zero ability a low PP status move. The others though I don't believe I could see coming back without their gimmicks.

Ogerpon shares the same destiny as Terapagos, losing its secondary form once Tera goes away. Sure the base forms are all still viable, but it makes very sad because I love its mechanic.

Legends in base game. At a low enough level to use so the game isn't just a sweep and not needing to go through a million hurdles to get Example x y needing to see a legendary bird 12 times before they can be caught. Would have been better if that was a fail safe instead where they run but you can master ball or trap them with shadow tag and after 12 fails they go to be a real fight

My burning hot take of the century (that I'm sure is actually fairly cold) is that this gimmick trend is bad game design. Mega evolution was interesting because it changed things up, made cool 'mons even cooler and gave a much needed power boosts to some lesser-used ones. But then for some reason instead of going "Hey this is a cool mechanic that people really liked, let's keep using it and see how well it can be refined" they went "Let's totally throw it out in favor of a worse version of it that no one asked for in every new generation." It's tired. I went into ScarVio totally blind, and when I was introduced to terrastilization, I rolled my eyes. I don't think I used the mechanic a single time in the whole game.

We never got Eternamax Eternatus because it was clearly designed for the cutscene battle, but we kinda get the form by using Eternabeam Also, Ogrepon loses some of its identity when we lose terra. Not as much as Terapagos, but enough.

Maybe take a note from the shinnoh legendaries and to extension the primals, give pokemon like terrapagos and necrozma (it’s dusk/dawn forms) their own transformation items like a stellar crystal and ultra burst shard. This would transform the Pokémon like the primals or creation trio there might be some stat rebalance like eternamax eternatus (also it’s size) While these legendaries may or may not be good in competitions after some possible rebalancing having them still be relevant or playable would be nice
