I have taken the liberty to edit some of the rough language from this documentary. I still recommend that it be considered PG-13 due to subject matter and what is left of mature language. I just wanted to upload a more censored version since it is a great documentary, with the exception of the Elvis impersonator performing An American Trilogy at the end. Otherwise it is an awesome documentary.

I'm from California and flew with my dad to visit Graceland in 1996. My dad looked like the late Elvis with the slick back hair, a little on the heavy side and had the long side burns. At the gift shop I bought him 2 pairs of the Elvis lookalike sunglasses. When we left the tour and drove back to the hotel, at least 3 different people did double takes looking at my dad as he wore the sunglasses while in the passenger seat of our car. He got a kick out of it and made his day. Good times. Rest in peace Pop.

Looked at my mom in a whole different way. They played his music continually for 48 hours. In memory of him. We listen for those 2 days. Thank you for this video and thank you guys for letting us hear your life with him. Wonderful man. RIP Elvis with your grandson and daughter 💔💔💔. God blessed us with you. Thankful for the memories. I was exactly Lisa Marie's age in 1977 visiting my relatives in Cape Breton. All the adults were gone out of the house for some reason and it was just me and my brother and we heard it on the radio they left on. It's sort of freaking me out that she is gone though. Because even though I didn't know her I remember her at every stage of her life as I was at the same stage (through the tabloids though as we had a corner store, lol). I remember her high school rebellious years as in the tabloids would discuss it. Lol. And I remember her on the cover of People with her baby in the late 80s when she had her daughter, her music career in the 2000s, etc.

He had so many people on payroll, taking a long break would affect these people's families and livelihood. Being the kind person he was, I'm sure that was another reason he didn't take a break or slow down. He felt a sense of responsibility to so many people, including the Colonel. Part of his demise was his unwillingness to put himself first and his own needs which at the same time shows how much he loved and cared for the people around him. He was a gift to us and a national treasure.

Elvis's life is incomprehensible to ordinary folks. From poverty to the highest altitude of fame and accessibility is unimaginable. I have always been a fan of Elvis even though he wasn't big in my era but in my mom's era. I have always had a passion for music and his pictures were plastered all over my bedroom wall as a teenager. His contribution to music is to be cherished and appreciated always. His physical beauty & magnetism, unlike any other musician I have ever seen (a few may have that special something but no one has ever matched him). For me, The '68 Comeback was the BEST & LAST of the raw & original Elvis that I so loved. Vegas, the cheesy movies & his demise with drugs...ALL NOT how I wish to remember him. Went to see the new Elvis movie with Austin Butler and can honestly say he deserves an award for his portrayal. I also loved that this movie depicted Elvis's early influence and throughout the years, which is soooo significant. What I never knew was how Elvis's mom was an alcoholic who drank herself to death. I also don't think his father was ever the family protector. I think Elvis has always carried the weight of responsibility for others on his shoulders and it ultimately just became too heavy a burden. A lot of talk about the evil of drugs killing Elvis but seems to me the carnival con "Colonel" was just as evil and destructive as the drugs were in Elvis's life. The drugs destroyed his body and mind but the Colonel destroyed his spirit.

Now that I'm 67 I realize just how lucky I really was to have been part of that era. There was really no one like Elvis and there never will be. You really had to live during that time to understand what an impact he had. The picture starting at 51:49 brought a sadness to me for some reason. I was in high school when Elvis hit the airways. We all just went bananas over him. My boyfriend Glenn, at that time looked like Elvis, sang and played his guitar like Elvis and put on a show for all us like Elvis did. We would go to a Drive Inn restaurant in Missoula, where we were from and he’d set on the hood of his 1955 Chevy and start playing and singing then jump off the car and start his dance . Oh! I can still see him and hear him. I had a curfew ,had to be home at 11:00pm. And he’d say I have to get my girl home. Glenn was drafted into the Air Force and was stationed at Amarillo AFB, Texas. We lost track of each other and I married in 1958. After Elvis died I got to go to Graceland. A trip I’ll never forget as long as I live. His ‘55 Pink Cad. convertible is in a show case in the MGM Casino in Las Vegas,Nevada. I had the pleasure of seeing it. I never ever got to see him in person as when his show was in Reno because all tickets were sold out months before he appeared. When his show was taken to Hawaii tickets were sold out months before for. He was the IDEAL of my life to this day. (he was only five years older than me). My he rest in peace. ❤

I've been sober for 19 years now. But when I wasn't nobody could talk me out of using again. People like to bash these guys but they couldn't stop him from doing anything. It's so sad but he did it to himself, and people need to stop blaming others.

Exactly. Theres nothing anyone could do to stop another from addiction unless that person wants to truly change. The books I read said the memphis mafia members each tried to get him to stop but elvis would just lose his temper at them. And elvis even fired them for that. Now today who will they blame for lisa presleys death? We all now she was on drugs as well and she had all the resources to stop but chose not to. In the end we are responsible for our own lives.

@boxerfan2 yea, I saw her two days before at that awards ceremony. She was clearly not sober. I can tell, obviously high on opiates. Imo. Educated opinion. Did that contribute to her death? It definitely didn't help, and the truth will likely be covered up. Cardiac arrest sound much more dignified than opiate overdose. Just like her father, people can't expect the truth. It's sad, I don't typically care about celebrities, but she always seemed cool. People hopefully tried to help, but you know she was surrounded by yes men. It's tragic, and final.

Thank you so mch to all the contributors of this documentary. I never knew of Elvis Presley's life and such details. Thank you, thank you for opening up, sharing your sincerity and all your truths about this icon's real life experience behind the scenes. It seems he couldn't find a way out of the "working" chains he had been locked into for decades. He had a strong financial obligation and pressure to provide for so many through his performances. He was surrounded by many but he carried a deep loneliness. How sad it is to have come to know this about his life. Not the women, not the male friends he surrounded himself with and certainly not the drugs ever fulfilled him. He was searching for a spiritual experience but his performance obligations kept pulling him away from ever accomplish it. His body eventually freed him from this world. Rest in peace forever, king of rock "n" roll. 🙏❤️

Many people heard about it on their car radios and immediately headed for Memphis--didn't even go home to pack. At least one lady was later charged with child abandonment for leaving her kids alone and unsupervised when she went to be near Elvis in death. I myself was on the way to Las Vegas and heard it about it on the car radio while driving across Hoover Dam. Las Vegas was an interesting place to be that night. On top of everything else, there was a torrential rainstorm with considerable localized flooding, as if the heavens were weeping for the King. Added in edit: On the first anniversary of his death a year later, Memphis was in the middle of a public-service crisis. The police and fire departments were both on strike, and there was dusk-to-dawn curfew enforced by the National Guard. Elvis fans didn't care about that, and thousands of them descended on the city anyway. Many arrived at the bus station without any lodging arrangements, and just took a cab straight to Graceland. Hundreds of people jammed the sidewalks in front of the mansion. With the curfew approaching, Vernon went down to the gate and offered to let the crowds onto the grounds for the night so they wouldn't get arrested--but they had to promise not to approach the house, and to leave first thing in the morning. What more could a true Elvis fan desire than to spend the night on the King's front lawn? One woman from Pennsylvania later wrote a letter/article printed in the Memphis paper, describing it as the most beautiful and serene night of her life. Most folks who lived in Memphis in those days could tell one or two Elvis stories. In my case, I worked at one of the movie theatres he would sometimes rent after hours, and we also had the same Tae Kwon Do instructor, Master Kang Rhee; but we never actually met. 🤠

My dad graduated high school in 58' went in to the Army. Was in the same time as Elvis, in Germany in fact. My Dad had such an uncanny resemblance to him, freaky like. Same smile and all, wasn't forced, it just was. My Dad would get mistaken for him all the time, would get kicked out of pool halls when they realized it wasn't really Elvis. When i was a kid I was looking at my dad's army pictures and asked him why he had pictures of Evis. He thought that was pretty funny and showed me actual pictures he had of Elvis from that time. It was bizarre, you'd think my dad was his deceased twin brother. Even as my Dad aged in the 70's he had the big chop side burns too. I wish I could attach pictures.

A friend and I got into a heated discussion over who deserves the Oscar for Best Actor, and the nominations haven’t even come out yet. They’ll be announced on the 24th. I believe the two front runners will be AB & Brendan Fraser (The Whale), especially since AB just won the GG award & BF won the CC award (which also kind of makes me nervous)! 🫣 My friend said it’s not fair for me to want AB to win because I haven’t seen BF in The Whale. I responded that in my opinion AB deserves to win over BF for one very important reason i.e., AB not only played EP, incredibly and spot-on, he’s also singing most of the songs in the movie, which is based on a true story! Sorry, not sorry, but as good as BF ‘s performance may be, the character is fictional and based on a play, and none of the predictions for best actor nominees are in true stories either.

Chris Cornell was on anti anxiety meds that had suicidal thoughts as a side effect. Michael Jackson was medicated, Prince. Tom Petty was on meds they don't monitor them properly everyone thinks it's safe because it's prescription and legal but some doctors are still just drug dealers you can't make them actually care about their patients. Look what Lisa Marie has been through lost her Dad MJ and last year her son killed himself he used drugs too it's just part of the culture I guess but so hard for the family.

Elvis had propably more fun and joy in his lifetime than the rest of us in 80 + years. Yes, it is heartbreaking, his personality and gift is unmatched but he lived life to the fullest. The average person goes through one crisis after another and hates life more than once in a lifetime. May it be because of job, finances, relationships, separations, kids, losses, some devastating disease, acicidents or whatever life throws at people. If I would have a choice I would rather pass at a younger age when times are good before enduring senselessly endless pain and disappointments through a full lifetime.

Well, I learned a few new things, and relived and reminisced as well. He had his demons but he also loved the Lord and that being said I know he is in heaven and I know his life was cut way too short. I can only hope that the younger generation of today can see how relevant he still is and always will be. There will never be another like him and I am so grateful for the wonderful memories of listening to his music and watching his movies.

I hope laws pass where 1. Agents are forbidden by law to take more the the market assessed maximum. 20% or less. 2. No manager has rights ad infinitum. If fired for any and every cause an artist can walk away from decision they believe entrap them with emotional, mental, creative and spiritual harms being life threatening or excessive exhaustion. 3. Any agent manager friend or family not as a power of medical attorney will be guilty of abuse using drugs injections or intoxicated to get a performer onstage vs hospitalization. 4. A mediator can be called with medical power to remove an actor from a harmful situation and formally adjudicate detox, rehab and restorative measure to overworked members of all entertainment unions. Actors, singers, musicians to show set and instrument truck drivers.

Secondly, throwing a blanket of the entire Bible as you do reveals that you don't understand what it is. Elvis was raised a Christian and had he remained such, he might still be with us today. Christians should be worshiping from the New Testament and should avoid the Old Testament. The Old Testament is for those who think that Jesus was a false prophet, which Larry certainly believed. IMHO, opiates are particularly difficult. When he said he needed them, his body actually felt as though he needed them to feel bottom of the barrel well. With opiate addiction, it can quickly change from taking them to help pain to a physical dependence attempting to avoid withdrawal. It's a real feeling, and withdrawal is horrible. Can't imagine how much pressure, how hopeless, and alone he must've felt in the end. "Treatment" wasn't really a big thing. He had to carry so much on his shoulders, and he carried it all. No matter what I will always believe he is the GOAT, insane talent & almost surreal beauty. Never be another like him.

Lisa Marie said it so well to Oprah, “when you have an addiction mixed with the ivory tower, where you can remove people you don’t want to hear that’s when you get into trouble.” “If you spoke up you were out, it’s very simple.” and she was so right. Elvis was one of a kind, a true gentlemen and also a man with so many health issues and dealt with physical pain and still managed to perform the way he did. He will be remembered for all time. Would have loved to see what he did in the 80’s and 90s I like to think maybe had a few more children and done some amazing movies-he would have won an Oscar, and traveled around the world and done some amazing shows.
