I'm thinking that that would open up to infection getting deeper into the ear tissue. Like in the removal of Pilar Cysts, on the scalp, they used to shave the area. They stopped doing that, as it opened up the skin to infection. I did see a different channel though, shaving the area!

@@viviennejordan215there has to be a way the entrance can be cleaned without scraping or plucking those hairs. Warm, damp ( not dripping water) 4x4’s to clean and soften those crustaceans. Yes in the USA we still do dry mopping which I find has helped my patients a lot. I use it mostly within the first 3/4 of the ear canal not necessarily down by the eardrum but it really helps get the ear dry and again we can see it on camera so we’re not leaving a little bits and pieces of cotton throughout the ear. The only time we do irrigation is if the earwax is super hard and nothing is helping whatsoever, we will try to do irrigation but that is not used regularly.

If you're not supposed to use q tips what do you do if you have an itch in your ear?
@chandracox68143 жыл бұрын
I push in the little flap in the center of the outer ear and push it in (the little thing you plug your ears with) and gently rub that on my ear and it usually alleviates the itch. But...I also use cotton buds. Most people do tbh.
@wwlittlejOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, generally q-tips are not *that* bad, but if u are dumb and really go nuts u can cause a lot of damage. I use them when I come out of the shower, trying to get my canal dry, also removing some surface exterior wax. I've been doing this for almost 30+ years with no issue. I also get deep inner ear itches and a q-tip works for that, but u have to be careful not to push wax deeper.

Just a suggestion, the next time you have an ear that is real goopy all the way up to the outer ear, try laying the hairs down in the goop all the way around and make yourself a hole in the middle so you can go in and take care of the inside that way. 😊

Are these procedures covered under the NHS? Or do patients pay out-of-pocket or with private insurance plans for this kind of thing? (Just wondering as someone from the US where we pay for EVERYTHING. I don't know how non-M.D. coverage works in the U.S.)
@kathrynmettelka72163 жыл бұрын
My insurance covers "medically necessary" physical therapy, such as post knee surgery or therapy to avoid lower back surgery. I don't know about ear cleaning, but I can imagine they would pay for something that would prevent more expensive treatment. For example, diabetics getting toe nails cut by podiatrists can prevent amputations.

With respect to the "water" you keep referring to, do you make any differentiation as to whether this water is sterile, distilled, or just normal casual water from any tap? I would suggest that this would make a significant difference with respect to potential infection. Even sterile water can cause edema of the epithelial cells, but would not result in infection.

Thank you for the video you are amazing! I have a question though. I am from the US, and in the past I did have swimmers ear. We don't use metal syringes for anything in the US... And we don't use anything that rotates any fibers within the ear either. I don't know where that info came from. We have some doctors who use a plastic flushing device that is usually used for when there is something like a bug or someone can't handle any tools being inserted, but it's not used much.

Since working from home and zooming every day, I've had ear infections, strange discharge, and itchiness. Can these conditions be caused by wearing headphones? When I switch between headphones (which I prefer) and earbuds, the same happens. Is it possible that l might be reinfecting myself with earbuds (even though I wipe them down with alcohol swabs)? I would much rather deal with 5am traffic than the irritation in my ear(s). I never thought that a q-tip would be a staple on my desk.
