Actually the apple is super correct, but they didn't show how to use it. Much like korean marinades use pear for sweetness, japanese curry (like vermont) use blended apples for the pectin to thicken the curry and the fructose to add a depth of sweetness and flavor. That's an easy way at the middle stages of cooking to introduce more flavor and get the consistency you're looking for if it isn't quite nappe.

The reason Sanji isn't giving the kid direct help is because Sanji is a Pirate, and the kid is a Marine. They're natural enemies, and Sanji ended up aboard the Marines ship. He wasn't obligated to help, but he wanted to. Love this episode.. and love the reaction!

Wasn’t this from a filler episode? And for those who dont watch the show, Sanji, the man the the black suit, is a Chef for the main cast, he worked as an actual cook prior to becoming a Pirate (he still cooks all the time though, when he’s not chasing the ladies or fighting) And for further context, the ginger chef is basically an intern. Due to circumstances he’s cooking for some of the higher ranking officials. So yeah, that and the kitchen heat would make anyone sweat

When I was a bit younger, I was inspired by sanjis cooking, so I wanted to be a chef... I trained to be one even, but the place I trained at felt like a prison, so I ended up leaving. Idk if I even want to try again, I think i'd rather learn how to cook at home and maybe open a restaurant one day! My respect goes out to all the chefs out there, the dedication, discipline and will to keep learning and improving ones cooking is something I deeply admire. I will eventually be free from my current situation which restricts most of what I can freely do (talking about a private situation/problem i'm facing). When that day arrives, i'll be able to focus on my cooking and all other things I want to do right now, I can only imagine all the experiences I will make, for now, just the thought of what awaits me in the future makes me happy :D

When I was 11, I was barely able to do multiplication/division, and here you come along being able to cook 70 different things :O I started my training at a kind of boarding school in 2021 and I quit last year in february. Let's just say it wasn't great or healthy for me, cuz' the amount of bad experiences I made at that place are.... a lot, and not far in between. Now i'm 21, and i'm not doing good job-wise, but i'm getting there :> Trust me, however you're doing right now, things get really good the more things you know and do! Apples contain pectin which is a thickener. It's used mainly to thicken jam/jelly. I don't know how well it holds up to heat but if you grated a few apples into it they would change the consistency.

Apples dissolve into the sauce if you cook them long enough; so long as he didn't add them at the very end he should have small enough pieces that they cook down, but if you add them too late you might get strings of apple in the final product. It's a question of where you want the sugar - if you want the sugar to be subtle and well-married with everything else, add it to the end of caramelizing the onions. If you want to taste apple front and center, add closer to the end.

Its actually also something done with bolognese! Italian bolognese has various vegetables in it that are roasted along with the onions and meat, then allowed to simmer. The cell walls eventaully break down and it dissolves into the food. You then generally add some water from the spaghetti (which itself also contains starch), which gives it a velvety texture.

Japanese curry has an interesting history. It's basically Indian as modified by the British as modified by the Japanese. (The British brought curry powder to Japan in the second half of the 19th century.) Katsu curry is my favorite -- made with a fried pork cutlet (like a schnitzel). If you get the cubes, it's a great quick midweek meal. Don't expect it to taste like South Asian curries. It's its own thing.

8:16, here in the US in Louisiana we use roux in a lot of dishes, my personal favorite being, Gumbo, usually made with a roux, sausage, chicken, and spices. I'd also suggest trying a Cajun crawfish boil, if it's done well there's no going back
