Check out their cover of Kiss's Detroit rock city in full Kiss make up.. It's awesome.. Fun fact, Mayu lead singer, and drummer Tamu both have children under 5.. Nemophila are pros and has a great versatility. E.g., Tamu is one of Japan's best session drummers. You can hire her for any kind of music. When she play things she like its mostly prog jazz and prog rock. I have heard her do some dream theatre stuff.

They are such a versatile band. I'm always a fan of talented bands that can "switch gears" and still kill it in a different music genre. It really showcases Mayu's excellent range as a vocalitst. Love her screamos, but her cleans are also incredible. She's got such a unique voice, a little raspy, a little nasally, but it just melds together smoothly.

You took it all the way down from Zen, lol. This is one of the softest, a straight up ballad, from the newest album, Evolve. Yep, reminds me too, of the 80's power ballads. Mayu does have a great clean vocal, but I love her screams. Most of their songs have a mix of the 2. When you come back to Nemophila, more representative songs to try: "Oiran" (official live), "Dissension" (mv is 1st song for many reactors), and "Adabana".

Told you this was on the other end!!!!! Their song (Life) is another slowed down song that they played for a while and when the drummer TAMU came back from maternity leave (6 months mandatory in Japan) they dedicated it to her during an on-line concert, very emotional!!!!! Just found this channel and your two Nemophila videos after searching for the band! It's been a favourite of mine since discovering them around a year ago! It's really difficult to give recommendations for where to go next with Nemophila, because they don't really do second-tier songs. But some personal favourites of mine are "Hypnosis" (heavy, but less screaming), "Dissension" and "Revive" (a lot of screaming) and "Life" (another calmer song, not quite a ballad but almost). Another band we you owe it to yourself to check out is EPICA. Sorry, they're not Japanese, but rather from The Netherlands. They mix clean and harsh vocals, albeit with two vocalists, a lady and a man respectively. I recommend starting with "Consign to Oblivion" (live at Zenith in Paris), and several songs from their special 10th anniversary concert that took place in 2013 with a full orchestra and choir joining them on stage: * Unleashed * Chasing the Dragon * Delirium * Monopoly on Truth * Serenade of Self-Destruction

This is probably the the farthest extreme of the spectrum (in comparison to "Zen") that Nemophila gets, and honestly for a less throwbacky feel on a mellower Nemo song, I would have recommended "Now I Here", great vocals, more modern and Saki and Hazuki weave beautiful melodic solos; or "Adabana", another slower paced song where Mayu alternates harsh and clean vocals. Both of those are uniquely Nemophila, imo. Either way, at some point they shouldn't be missed (honestly, just like LoveBites, Nemophila has a ton of originals that are a must listen).

Now you have to go in the middle, the meat (songs that contain the trifecta of screams-cleans-guitar solos)... something like Oiran, Dissension, Revive, Raitei, Adabana, Style (rap-rock) ...Seize the Fate, A Ray of Light, Hoozuki... be careful with Night Flight, that's an electro-rock-ish song that they use at halftime during concerts, to catch some break., fans love it.. 🤣 But Sorai, Fighter, Monsters also have some little electronic vibes to them, although they are awesome rock songs too. Or try more songs from their last album... Rise, OSKR, AMA-TE-RAS, Hammer Down, Enigma, Justice...

IIRC, I think EXTREME did it first. Most Japanese women dress modestly and fashionably, including entertainers. Many firsts in ODYSSEY, including: MAYU singing will sitting down; MAYU using a mic stand; HARA-chyan with her hair up (and blonde); guitar solo from HAZUKI only. Try MONSTERS next. MAYU’s vocals are great, and it has their most melodic breakdown. Then, ADABANA. It’s a masterpiece.

First time I heard this it made me think of the Aerosmith song from the movie about a fckn great meteor or comet or something. This was written for an anime by a guy who doesn't usually write for Nemophila, but he went to see the band live and came up with this, which is kind of surprisingly perfect. The band was involved in promotional events for the move and the track. I generally dislike power ballads, but I love this (I actually love 'More than Words' as well - Nuno can make anything work). Nemophila have maybe four songs that could be considered ballads: 'Odyssey', 'Now I here', 'Life' and 'Game Over', but I think Zen is closer to their usual vibe, although it's the only song where Mayu screams Pretty much the whole time. Actually, scratch that ... They don't have a "usual vibe" - it's constantly changing.

@@beldin2987 It's always interesting to me how different we all are in our preferences. I never liked screaming/growling UNTIL I heard Mayu. My first song was also Dissention (MV) which I turned off like 5 seconds into it because of the screaming but then I decided to 'give them a chance' and watch the whole video since Nemo had be recommended to me by a Band-Maid fan. By the time I finished watching Dissention (MV) I knew I would be a life-long fan of Mayu and the band. It's nothing I had logical control over...Mayu and the band simply resonated with me in a way I never could have predicted base on my past and current musical tastes. But I can certainly understand how someone would not like her vocal fry scream...again, as a preference. Luckily Nemo is incredibly diverse with many songs that have no harsh vocals at all.
