The real Mandarin is Iron Man's arch nemesis, who was behind the kidnapping of Tony Stark and Yinsen in South Asia, and who had the chance to kill Stark after he escaped the Wong-Chu's camp in his first armor variant, but declined, thinking of him as an insignificant man whose path will never cross his again. The skydive scene is so great because it’s so rare to get a scene like that anymore. A scene of a superhero not just saving the day by fighting the bad guys, but literally going out of their way to save a few specific people. A super hero, saving people in a super hero movie, crazy right? Super hero movies have gotten less and less of those scenes over the years, because I guess it’s not as entertaining as watching the hero beat up random henchmen. That’s a big reason I like Spider Man movies from any era, they never really lost sight of that aspect so you have multiple scenes of Spider Man saving civilians in every movie.

I remember thinking this felt like the final film with Iron Man when I first saw it, and with you mentioning the behind the scenes details that makes sense why. Had that not been the case I feel like they maybe should have had the reveal of the Ultron program be an end credit scene in this film. Based on how this film ends I feel like Age of Ultron would have been a lot more interesting if he didn't return as Iron Man until the third act, he's still helping the Avengers but he's more of just the tech guy, which I get isn't exactly within his character but maybe if they elaborated on the fact that he destroyed all his suits for Pepper at the end of this film, then it would make more sense that he was making a conscious effort to change for the better, only to then accidently create a bigger problem with Ultron. That would have made the Ultron program more believable for why he did it other than just his trauma from the first Avengers, and added more meaning to the end of this film, so when they reveal that Pepper left him at the beginning of Civil War it's because he went back to being Iron Man at the end of Age of Ultron. I just like the concept of Tony trying to be a better person only to get punished for it, that I think would have been an interesting arc for him in Age of Ultron since I feel that he should have shown more regret at the end of that film for creating Ultron.
@li-limandragon92873 жыл бұрын
What I like about Civil War is that while Tony does continue to screw up, ironically it’s Cap the paragon who makes the biggest fuck up, that ultimately splits the Avengers for real and the ramifications are still felt afterwards. Tony isn’t a saint and has many character defects but that doesn’t mean everyone else is less flawed than him. Thor despite “being worthy”’ becomes a drunken loser and Hawkeye a murdering psycho. If anything Pepper was wrong to expect Tony to just give up being Iron Man, when he’s in the suit saving people he can do mote for the world than half the Avengers combined.

I was being nagged at constantly for spending too much time building things. Also, how many Marks for the Iron Man suit I blew past between now and then? You really should have your shrink license revoked, kid." ------ Okay, they need to get Cillian Murphy into the MCU. Somebody find a role for him, asap.

I loved the Kingsly reveal. I wish they had put the “actually there is a real Mandarin out there” reveal in the post-credits. But I really think this movie would hold up better if they hadn’t just kind of ignored it as the MCU moved forward. Like, it would have been very cool if Tony deciding to resume his Iron Man stuff as a story point instead of just something off screen had been a part of Avengers 2.

There’s a moment in which Jarvis basically tells Tony in code that something something is ready. So the “house party protocol” wasn’t operational until that moment. It’s just very hard to get, a few seconds of an AI with speech impediment saying random words. So I guess it’s more of a poor execution rather than a plot hole.

The plane scene is easily one of my top fav MCU moments, especially because it shows how much Iron Man actually cares about saving lives, he does more times than the rest of the Avengers.

I know the point of this video is to throw shade at the pizza oven guy... but you've inspired me. I know my new goal in life. Now, of course, I'm not a moron here. I'm thinking a subtle pizza oven, y'know? Not one that overtakes the entire space, just a humble lil pizza pie spot outside; maybe you could make other stuff with it too, who knows. Anyways, you don't sell people on coming over for the pizza party, you just tell 'em hey, we're gonna have some guys and gals over, crack a few brews, maybe have a movie going on in the background, Iron Man 3, subtitles on cause music will be involved, whatever. That's when the scheme really begins. Jazz cigarette: out, a few people join in and have a little smoko off to the side. You walk back to the main area... and you stand right next to the pizza oven. They'll be powerless to stop your machinations, someone will be compelled to ask about it. They'll crave it, hunger for it, you'll play it coy, "damn, actually I might have some fresh dough chillin in the fridge". The stoney bologneys won't know what hit 'em. Pizza in the oven. Chips and salsa comes out in the meantime. Killian Murphey is the Mandarin and we groan as we look at subtitles, but the pizza oven goes *ding* and we forget about all that. The door to the pizza oven opens and you can feel a wave of heat kiss your face as the beautiful aroma of san marzano tomatoes, bubbly cheese, savory dough, and some meaty chorizo and/or pepperoni slaps your god damn nose-buds. The stoners are salivating, the drinkers are clambering, and you're basking in the glory of a night well spent. Then you shut that motherfoxer and tell 'em a slice of pizza cost $9 and a subscription to Big Sandwich. Dave gets his slice now cause you know he's already subscribed. Be cool like Dave.

JARVIS wasn't offline. The new suit just wasn't charged yet. It's literally him turning on the Protocol by saying "do it". Hell in the first Avengers, he said "deploy" to activate his new suit and had the bracelets on, and Jarvis just heard him through the walls or intercom or whatever.

Terrible movie, but not because it lacks logic. The first Iron Man doesn't have much logic, either, but it's great because of its mature tone and clean storyline, even if it doesn't survive scrutiny. IM3 is just ugly and bad. Hate it.

I actually genuinely like Iron Man 3. It's a classic Shane Black film, action and big explosions and shit you can enjoy with your brain turned off, but also a surprisingly soft and almost deep side, dealing with Tony and his traumas. I liked that they actually didn't magically solve them at the end of the movie, Tony just learns to live with them and make the best of his life.

I honestly love this movie. It is a great end to RDJ’s redemption cycle and Ironman as a character. The fact that so much involves Tony the man overcoming his stuff without Ironman was great. The themes about demons was great too until they redid it with every single follow up movie. I think that in another universe where this was the last marvel movie wrapping up the franchise it would be lauded Edit: and YES Ben Kingsley reveal is hilarious and fits the whole theme of what you show vs who you are on the inside.

Thematically, it works great that Killian "is" the Mandarin. The whole movie is about who we project to shield ourselves - the armor we put on, as it were. The Mandarin is almost a Batman-like idea. Something outside of yourself, "more than a man", that inspires terror. Tony is so consumed by who he is projecting himself as in this movie, obsessing over it to the point that if he can't protect everyone - put armour around everyone - he has failed. His arc in the movie leads him to realise that no, he is not who he projects, he is a person, he is Tony Stark. He removes his shining mechanical contraption that had sorta become a symbol of his heart, and he chucks it in the ocean. Meanwhile, Killian succumbs to who he has projected, going I AM THE MANDARIN BLAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHH and basically melts. I think it works splendidly and I enjoy this movie very much. (It is muddied by his suits being unearthed and ending up saving the day, but you can smell the studio interference from a mile away whenever an explosive finale becomes a problem for the themes of the movie.)

Agreed. I loved that it wasn't just 2 hours of Iron Man flying around in his suit fighting people. The middle section where he's dealing with the PTSD and is totally vulnerable was great character development. It's not a perfect movie or anything, but it's probably the best non-Russo-Bros Marvel movie. The Mandarin being a fake was perfect. I think I like when movies mess with fanboy expectations a bit, so maybe that biases me here.

This is legit the best Iron Man movie lol. Tony's trauma and anxiety attacks were the main villain here, "The Mandarin" is some puny fraud because Tony's anxiety elevates seemingly benign nobodies. The fear of not knowing enough about something scares the shit outta him. "We create our own demons".
