I think Dark Talbain was explained in the Capcom Encyclopedia. I vaguely remember a section in Talbain's entry that mentioned that he separated his human and werewolf sides, and the werewolf side turned evil, so he had to fight his inner demons to right the wrongs of his past

I’ve always touted that a new Darkstalkers game should have Anita as the primary protagonist and Donovan as Dee as the primary antagonist, and the cast falling in either side of the conflict or doing their thing tangentially. Dee wants to rend the human world asunder with his darkness and Anita has to save him either by appealing to his remaining humanity or taking his life. Even had the notion of it being called “Darkstalkers: Vampire Slayer”. But now, as you pointed out, Belial coming back after having so much influence on the events of what we’ve had so far also makes so much sense, so we definitely need at least two more Darkstalkers game so we can have a “Belial as the final boss” game too. “Darkstalkers Are Not Dead” is a mantra the fans tout as a badge of honor, and so long as we’re keeping them relevant in videos and other fan projects and playing the games, it never will be!

I'd expect Anita to be a main character in a new Darkstalkers for sure. Morrigan and Demitri will probably get top billing for sure, but I could see them being like Ryu and Ken where they get a heavy focus, while Anita gets the main story if there's a story mode in some form, like how Chun-Li gets a big role separate from Ryu in the Street Fighter story.

@Mr Sack This actually sounds similar to the premise for a Darkstalkers fan fic I've been kicking around for a while. Specifically it starts with Demitri breaking into Castle Aensland (like in the beginning of Project X Zone 2), but completely ignoring Morrigan, much to her bafflement. Turns out he was sent a mysterious letter cryptically offering him a chance for more direct revenge towards Belial for his banishment. Morrigan points out that her father is deceased and that Demitri is on a fool's errand, only for Shadow to appear alongside some compatriots such as Bishamon's cursed armor Hannya, Dee separated from Donovan, Lord Raptor, Dark Talbain, & Marionette. Shadow then proceeds to have Marrionette possess the deceased demon's corpse, has Dee & Hannya siphon off some of Demitri's power, forcibly separates Lilith from her sister while casting the pink-haired succubus into the human world, casts both the vampire and green-haired succubus out of the castle while sending the entire structure through a portal to who-knows-where. In others, providing the two poster children as well as a few other characters plenty of motivation to get involved. I actually have tons of ideas of stuff I'd include, such as how various other characters get involved in the plot (like Huitzil, Cecil, Bishamon, Victor, Emily, Donovan, & Anita) as well as how to bring in additional yet obscure content (like one of the spin-off manga involving Lilith), but I don't really have an overarching plot structure or even an end-game in mind. Then again, with a cast like this, it might just be best to let the characters bounce off one another and see where it goes from there. Originally, I was just gonna call this fic Darkstalkers 4, but were I to actually take a crack at this, with your permission I'd like to add Vampire Slayer to the title. Let's all keep chanting "Darkstalkers Are Not Dead" and embrace the dark together!

Nice list. I liked hearing all the lore the characters have. If they came out with a new Darkstalkers game, I think a Headless Horseman would be a good character. Being on a horse would automatically make him stand out and play differently than the other fighters

Not much of a purpose using a new gargoyle when they could just use the Red Arremer. A zombie making vague Resident Evil references implying it escaped Umbrella but never saying it aloud so they aren't tied to Bio Hazard lore would be nice. A slender man, a new generation horror character. A chupacabras representing South America. Gray aliens tied to Pyron. The hunchback of Notre Dame.

Anita has some lore behind her. She is an extremely powerful psionic and is known as the "Queen of the Humans". Her aging up probably helped her power grow ever further. Honestly, if Dee and Anita were to battle, Anita would EASILY destroy him.

Nice video mate. Fairly nice refresher on things. c: One thing I want to bring up immediately is about Hsien-Ko's name and its pronunciation. So, her name in Mandarin is 仙姑 (xiāngū), deriving from the xian of the Eight Immortals pantheon of Taoist mythos, 何仙姑 (hé xiāngū). According to sources, it is pronounced as 'syen-ko' rather than 'shen-ko'. Pocket Fighter pronounces her name correctly. While her name Lei-Lei has the funny and interesting double spirit meaning, 仙姑 actually has some rather fascinating meanings. Chief among the meanings are 'female immortal', celestial, and sorceress. Honestly really cool meanings that can fit both sisters in a sense. Mei-Ling's name in Mandarin is 美玲 (měilíng). Her name unfortunately has no real interesting meanings and just seems to have been picked as a general female Chinese name. However, 美 does have several meanings that relate to beauty. I don't know about you, but Mei-Ling is quite beautiful. Also another fun fact and very little-known thing about both Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling: their official family name. 少 (shǎo) is their family name, stated in Pocket Fighter. It is misspelled in the English version of the game. With that in mind, their full names would be in Chinese: 少仙姑 (shǎo xiāngū) 少美玲 (shǎo měilíng) As for the spells you mentioned about their lore. What Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling used was Tensei-no-Jutsu, but a forbidden sub section of that technique known as Igyo Tenshin-no-Jutsu. Beyond that, really nice to see her be given spotlight. She plays a very important role for Hsien-Ko and it really sucks to see her basically not be acknowledged by so many people. So thank you for that mate. I do find it interesting the way you interrupt the Mei-Ling costume in MvC3 as a what if role reversal. That is a cool way to look at it. But yeah, Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling are my favorite characters in all of Darkstalkers and just in media in general. They mean everything to me.

EXCELLENT video! You know me, I always pop off on your lists when Darkstalkers are included, so having a list all about them is DEFINITELY my jam! Thank you! The lore for Darkstalkers is one of the richest of fighting games. The only downside to it is it’s primarily locked in interviews and supplementary material, which is hard to hunt down but has more or less been compiled into FAQs around the net for easy reference. A new Darkstalkers would surely benefit from putting all of it “on disc” for reference.

27:16 Huh...giving Pyron a family is also what the last episode of The U.S. Darkstalkers cartoon did. His hyper competent brother (he's got a name, I can't remember it off the top of my head) shows up and starts upstaging him. I think there's also mentions of like a mom existing as well. Did Capcom Fighting Jamolution really reference an obscure cartoon that had been cancelled for years by then or is there just something in some Lore Bible about Pyron being A Family Man? I guess we'll never know.

I'm somewhat convinced that episode inspired that ending. I was initialyl going to talk about that episode for Pyron's related character until I found the "more official" family in the Capcom crossover. That would be really cool and funny if that was the true inspiration since I did enjoy that episode the most (tied with the Hsien ko one) of the Darkstalkers cartoon.

The most interesting part about Anita and Donovan, is that Dee's ending Shows Anita at what is probably Donovan's grave. Meaning this bad ass little Magic girl probably Killed Dee and saves Donovan's soul. Anita's garb looks like a mix of Priest and Mage so she most likely battles along side Elemental Spirits. A character that also didn't get much mention but is right on screen is Donovan's Sword Dhylec

I love Phobos. Though his body was based on some traditional archaoelogical stone and metal icons, his personality was definitely inspired by the robot in Laputa that let birds and small animals jump around on it (especially in Vampire Hunter). Cecil gave him a big boost in wholesomeness. I think in one of the Vampire Saviour upgrades, either Vampire Hunter 2 or Vampire Saviour 2 (can't remember which one gave you Donovan as the playable character) then Anita would appear on the opponent's side and run away from Donovan if he wins which complicates the lore a little.

I got it when beating the arcade mode with Oboro Bishamon, who you can accessin Darkstalkers 3 by holding down select (or start in the PS3 version) on Bishamon. I don't know if there is any other way to get that ending, but as long as you play as Oboro Bishamon specifically, it should come up!

When It comes to gaming each genre and company has their die hard fans always wanting a new game but unfortunately they never get it Darkstalkers is to Capcom like how F-Zero is to Nintendo. Hopefully Capcom announces a new Darkstalkers game in the future I loved that the classic games were included in the Capcom Fighting Collection. Cool video. ^_^

I kind of like the concept with Huitzil and Ceceil with the "boy and his robot" thing going on it kind of gives off the "Giant Robo" or "Iron Giant" kindof vibes, not to mention this idea kind of gives a some sort of redemption arc for Huitzil as he went from being a mindless robot killing machine to destroy all life on earth to being a protector of a boy from any potential threats, not to mention this gives Huitzil a new meaning and purpose for his existence. And judging from some of his win poses and illustrations, he can be seen playing with a bunch of woodland creature possibly showing some signs of sentience and that there could be more to him than that he's just a mindless killer. I believe Huitzil is the most underrated Darkstalker character with a lot of potential as he went through a lot of character development upon his his introduction.

-I like the idea of Marionette becoming a stand alone fighter with a stiff ballet style of fighting. Creepy dolls and puppets are a phobia of mine! - Shadow could become the standard "shapeshifter" fighter like Blob from Clayfighter. -Anita could grow up to be a fighter. a creepy ESPER girl (maybe a goth aesthetic) -Cecil grows up to be a mad scientist and he has modified Huitzel to be more dangerous and Terminator like. - a new fighter could be a Grey alien or maybe that's what Pyron actually looks like without the flames? -

10. I found out about these two for three first time 2 years ago. I prefer Marionette because her design is great, but I love how creepy Shadow's win screen is. The possessed character's win quote *and music* cut out, as he moves on to his next victim, casually discarding the last one as a dead statue. 9. I never heard of Cecil before! 8. It's weird that Q-Bee's egg move makes another copy with the same amount of health the last one had. 7. The human Bishamon should come back as a character, in his monk attire and using his staff, if there's ever another game. 4. I never noticed Ozom linked Lord Raptor and Jedah's stories. 2. I figure if Anita was playable she'd be the resident witch, with barrier magic and telekinesis. HM: I didn't know some of those had as much lore or names as they do! 1. I think Belial should stay as a background character.

I remember when Demitri was the main character of this series. He just could not compete with the fine T&A of Morrigan Aensland. Fun fact, when the series first launched in Japan, the commercial had real actors(along with animation), which were ethnically accurate to the Creatures the characters represented, with Morrigan actually played by a Caucasian Woman.

🤔... I would recast Harry as an antagonistic D&D player who takes the game too seriously because he's "descendant of the ACTUAL Merlin". Overall it would just be a meaningless fun fact, but his ego ultimately leads him to finding Belial & becoming his new vessel. Making Harry a real-life Dungeon Master capable of warping reality & deciding people's fates with a mere dice roll. Also, I would love to see Bishamon & his wife as a duo of fighting monks. Not sure what I would do with Shadow & Marionette, although I definitely want them both to make a comeback. Also also, thanks for another GREAT video!
