@@josegarza8619 You're arguing semantics. It was still blue powers trying to do a bad thing being stopped by same powers but purple fighting to stop him. Yes Kevin! We have enough media with Asian/South Asian/Latine families that are constantly fighting amongst themselves. Having a show with a perfectly supportive, loving, and strong South Asian family is so refreshing to see. Like Tam has said, the family on this show is maybe a bit aspirational, but that's really what we need right now.

The weakness of the MCU part of the show is far outweighed by the strength of Kamala, her family, and friends. It's a wonderful coming of age story set within a culture typically ignored by Hollywood. When people talk about the importance of diversity this is it. This is what you get when different people a chance to tell their stories.

The MCU elements needs to be strong too, otherwise this show can just be a non MCU show and get a 9/10. The fact that the MCU elements were just all TRASH mainly due to her powers not be compelling at all, I also didn't care that she's a mutant because I felt like she didn't earn it. This is the first time they mention mutants, and I was not amazed. I was like meh, I wish it was deserved and exciting. This show falls to 5/10 for me, that's how terrible the MCU elements were. This is by far the weakest Marvel Disney plus show. The only interesting MCU component was the Captain Marvel scene that happened, and that's not saying much.
@CrossOutBryce

It does, but the weakness of the MCU knocks it down to an 8 at the HIGHEST, when it very easily could've been a perfect 10/10.

Acting like this was the generic ending fight breaks my brain. They fought for maybe 20s. The real enemy was DC and it was about her saving him from himself. This is such a twist on the usual third act. It’s also VERY X-Men with her trying to help someone who just got their powers while the government ruins everything.
@CrossOutBryce
@CrossOutBryce Жыл бұрын
Yes, but Kamala should've been fighting DC throughout the whole show. That finale is VERY muddled by Kamran even being there. He really takes the focus away from the larger issue between DC and Kamala and her community.

Great watch with my 10 year old daughter (who can get pretty sick of my MCU love haha). I thought they managed to really knock the origin out of the park with a tv budget. The suit and name being from her parents was AMAZING. Not only is the little one excited to go and see her in a movie, but as a major nerd to get the mutant theme and a swaparoo with Carol. 7/10 but 15/10 on heart.

What stood out to me was how adamant the DODC agent was about stopping the people with powers and how dangerous they could be. That could be coming from the Sokovia Accords, what happened at Westview or her own dislike of people with powers. The mutant revelation at the end though makes all of that hit harder. What we saw in this show was pretty much the beginning of the witch hunt mutants have always had to suffer through.

2 things: - No, the fight was not a fight, it was a de-escalation. - the world visual effects ended half way because they reflect Kamala’s mental state. In the middle of the show she is confronted with reality and responsibilities. At the end she is back at being herself, hence why if comes back

One minor thing I liked about the mutant reveal is that I was basically expecting a repeat of a similar moment on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. where Daisy is told her biology is "inhuman." So when they went the "mutation" route, my jaw dropped.

It is really a bummer that all Greg and Nick got from the final "fight" was purple version fighting yellow version of the same powers. Since that is not even really what happened. Kamala is never really fighting Kamran, she is trying to save him, both literally from the Department of Damage Control and figuratively from himself as he lashes out because of his heartbreak and confusion of losing his mom. Which is a great twist and subversion of expectations. Especially if you have a parent that you don't get along with, or you are estranged from, when they pass it brings very complex emotions so I like how they portrayed Kamran getting upset. When that happens you are confused, angry, filled with regret and sometimes you lash out and Kamala, realizing that, and trying to save him from killing members of the DODC, is so good and well done. At the end you get to see Kamran meeting up with the Red Daggers, an enemy of his family but they are working together and Kamala saved him from letting his anger consume him. It is frustrating that the majority of Kinda Funny missed this subtly because it is a really cool way to do it knowing our expectations of the series finales for these MCU shows. Wandavision had this problem, you have Purple Powers vs Red Powers and even regular Vision vs White Vision, even though I think the resolutions were well thought out in that show and don't get the credit they deserve. Wanda learning Agatha's magic and runes very quickly and using against her, which sets up very well for Doctor Strange with her and the Darkhold. And the Visions settling their fight with logic rather than fists is great too but still the fights were colors vs colors. Even though I think the Wandavision finale doesn't get its full credit for those resolutions the complaint makes sense. Here it really just seems like Greg and Nick were on their phones or the steamdeck and didn't pay attention and let their biases take over. And I am sure they will mention this for the next 10 years any time there is a finale. I am all for different opinions but here it is just not accurate, they missed the intention and what actually happened. Also I know Nick was going after the fact that they were very subtle with the tough topics they tackle in this show and comparing to how The Boys does it. The Boys is a great show but lets not pretend they can't be too blunt at times. The Boys has the problem of being so in your face and very "look at how smart we are with how we tackle this social issue" to the point where you wish they could handle things more subtly at times. The Boys is a great show it is not a new standard or something and has plenty of issues. I enjoy it but let's tap the breaks on that one.

I think yall are missing the nuance with Kamran in the finale. He's not a bad guy. He was raised by the Clandestine to believe their cause is good. He still believes that. He's hunted like a dog and is struggling with new powers. He just found out his mom is dead. Of course he's going to lash out at the ones trying to catch him. He didn't need to be taken out, he needed a chance to escape. A chance to work through all this. That's what Kamala did for him. They're never not going to do the same vs same in their origin stories. But I'd argue this is the best of them.

Tim is spot on with the way the show demonstrates prejudice from Damage Control A mustache-twirling, blatantly racist villain would not be nearly as effective as the subtlety of: 1. "We promise we're here for your safety. Now search the place; if it's got a lock break it" 2. Hiding Bruno in the closet because of course they won't be suspicious of the white kid 3. Having Bruno get caught in the school because it's more likely that he'd be taken alive That's WAY more interesting to me than "Yay! We beat the Nazi lady; all Muslims are happy and fine now!"

In terms of the supportive family, I remember after the first episode many people complaining that they have another unsupportive mom in the MCU, not that I agree with that but Im glad it turned around and they were supportive. A living family, supportive of their kid is a nice change from lots of hero origin stories. I really enjoyed the show and knew exactly what I was getting from the trailers. Well Marvel needs to take inspiration from shows like Stranger Things, because they are making the right decisions. Creators of Stranger Things know when to add more air time to a episode, and each episode are a progression and more compelling and no fillers. It makes me think that Marvel just be putting stuff together sometimes just for cash grab. This final episode needed to be way much longer than 45 minutes and the plot should've been more better. Don't get me wrong, Marvel does have great tv shows such as WandaVision, Loki, What If, and majority of Moon Knight, but be prepared when they just throw out trash that just feels like money grab. They put high budget on all of their tv shows, I'm talking Stranger Things type budget.

So either they have to go back to pre-movie-MCU quality for season 2, or pull out the big boy creditcard for the sfx scenes for what will still be an Disney+ show? Also this In Review has some of the highest tier of Greg Wheezing, amazing!

The Brie Larson scene was great, but I kinda think the only reason Tim’s in love with the ending of the show is because Bruno just said the word “mutation”. It’s not like Zac Efron as Cyclops is hiding around a corner somewhere.

I feel like we’re seeing the real time transition of some of KF “ageing” out of Marvels next phase. Not every show/ movie is going to be for everyone. I e personally been really let down with the most recent movies, MOM/ L&T and that’s because I feel like the world of the MCU is giving everyone the “quirky” wit where that fits with the shows, except moon knight and FATWS and I think that the thing to be grateful of is that we’ve grown up and still love the MCU, but we get to see it pass to the “youth” and new generation which is what I feel this show won over well. The khan family need to be in the marvels because they are so endearing, and lovable that they deserve a big screen appearance.

Never considered that honestly. I'm still relatively young so it won't hit me for a while, but yeah it's crazy to think it's been around long enough for fans to age out

I'm going to call it right now: Damage Control is going to create the Sentinel program. The drones can targeting those with powers, the xmen stinger, the usage of "enhanced individuals" that I assume will become "mutants". I cannot wait, and I cannot wait until The Marvel's to see how everyone's powers connect as the coloring between Photon, Carol, and Kamala have been similar.

Not to mention that one Damage Control agent (Deever) clearly does not like kids with powers, which is what most mutants are. Their powers manifest during puberty. I can see her resurfacing when a ton of mutant teens become the focus of the MCU.

After the first two episodes the show really fell apart for me. I think Iman absolutely crushes this role, though. Such good casting! I'm very excited to see her in more MCU projects. If they do a season two of this show, I hope they juggle fewer plotlines, and get whoever was in charge of episodes 1 & 2 to do the whole season.
@Daddysports79
@Daddysports79 Жыл бұрын
I enjoyed the show and Imani did an amazing job as Ms Marvel! BUT these shows could all benefit from just scaling things back. Keep these shows more local and give the characters room to breath and add more depth to the overall MCU. I think the movie tie in work best when they ADD layers to the world (Avengercon was dope, AntMan’s podcast is a relatable development, people dealing with missed events after being blipped, etc). When they force major tie ins to future developments things get too big and the smaller ingredients get lost in the MCU sauce. Fun Pakistani high school kids in Jersey didn’t need a “Universe Ending” event from another dimension

The directions of episode 1 & 2 also directed episode 6, also don't think Ms.Marvel will get a season 2, they've specifically said "Most" of these Disney plus shows are just one offs with the exception of "LOKI" & "WHAT IF"

The directors of episode 1 also did episode 6. they didn't direct episode 2. I do think _Ms. Marvel_ will get a Season 2 though; a lot of people are asking for it, the creators are down for it, and Marvel has no reason to make Kamala Khan's adventures a one season miniseries followed by movies.

@18:00 (give or take), Andy talks about the writers using DC to skirt the issue of racial profiling, and I couldn't disagree more--but only with the added context of the mutant reveal. Initially, I felt the same way; they were showing that they were at least marginally self-aware. But when you consider the mutants angle, who historically have been analogy for various prejudices since their inception, it seems to me now that they were saying, 'yes, these issues still exist in the MCU, but they're about to be amplified via the lens of the X-Gene/Inhuman storylines.' The focus is prejudices against people with abilities, but the rhetoric going forward will likely be similar, and Damage Control will be the mouthpiece. Calling it now--that 'kids with powers' line is the shape of things to come, and we're absolutely going to see at least a couple of stories involving them in direct opposition to mutants/those with powers in the MCU proper as they start weaving in X-Men stuff.

Man, I've been having such a disconnect with you guys over MCU series lately... Moon Knight and now Ms. Marvel... One thing I've noticed is that to some extent, you guys aren't keeping up with fundamental plot points well. Like, the stars on the train thing? They told that story 3 separate times before we see it actually happen, but you thought it wasn't clear? Like. What.

I loved She Hulk and really didn't like this. I was bored most of the time. From the start the goofy Thor's Hammer and Ant Man's head infinitely rolling around causing destruction. Her falling for the douchbag villain was a red flag. And there weren't really any wow moment's even when they went to Pakistan or went back in time. I'm excited to see what they can do moving forward and in the movies.

The shows style, characters, and cultural setting at the beginning felt fresh, and was really enjoyable. But as the series went on the pacing was absolutely awful, IMO. Same issue with most Disney plus shows. The clandestines were some of the worst set up villains in the MCU.
