My concern with some of these looks is the impact of fast fashion on the workers and the environment. I know clothes are expensive, but I wonder if we are better off with less of high quality and ethically sourced clothes instead of a $50 blazer from Walmart. I have a very tiny condo with a tiny closet, so when I buy something (which isn't very often) it has to be a classic and it has to last.

Marnie, this video where you explained how to take an outfit from frumpy to fabulous is such a great idea! This honestly should be a series- I think many of us have clothes but don’t know how to style them. It is especially irritating when i buy new pieces that look good by themselves but I have a tough time making them look “right” when I wear them out. It would be helpful to see how to wear the new straight leg pant style with shoes and look current not like we stepped out of the 90’s.

Those jeans on you!!! I was blown away by how they elongate your legs - comparing the jogger style jeans, then the faux leather joggers and then those jeans - it looked like you had been put on a stretching rack! I love all the looks and love how you trust your instinct and you dissect the why of when it doesn’t work and when it does. Well done Marnie!

I agree about the front tuck. Though for me I've found it all depends on how high the rise is. If the rise is too low it can be a no-go for me. Also, the front tuck is so great for any elastic waist or drawstring waist pants. Really de-frumps the whole thing.
@MsGoldgirl2 жыл бұрын
And sometimes the full tuck is the way to go! It’s always good to have some definition at the waist line.
@shogo89952 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right. I’m a huge fan of the tucked in and bloused button front or t-shirt. It always makes my tummy look smaller. Sometimes it is only a front tuck, and sometimes you can see my belt buckle, but I almost always blouse the front out a little

More videos like this! I really like seeing the evolution (and honesty) of when you start with an outfit and determine it's not working, whether color, proportion, shoe, or even fit like the last blazer (which did indeed look great on you, but rather than let looks trump function or comfort, you flat out said it didn't feel good being restricted and opted for one that looked just as good BUT you felt much better in. (Chuckled when you mentioned your pooch 'is what it is'. ) Keeping it real. TY

You are so right about the blazer. Nothing will ruin my day faster than a jacket that feels like a straight jacket or makes me hot. I find I avoid wearing most of my blazers and I have a closet full of them because they feel like I’m wearing a wet blanket.

I love that you made the point that if you feel good in your outfit, you will stand taller and walk out the door smiling-- this is so true for me and I even walk a little faster and with a little kick in my step! It makes all the difference! Also agree with giving the front tuck a try-- I am in the process of losing weight (down 50lb but more to go) -- my belly does protrude more than I want and the front tuck balances it and actually makes me look thinner and shows off my weight loss.

Interesting video, thanks for filling us in on your thought process for improving your look. I noticed some of the tops are too long in the torso and sleeves. I’m only 5’1” and know how frustrating this is, especially when petites are not available in a jacket or top I like. I finally tired of rolling up my sleeves, which IMO makes me look frumpy. In Sept I gathered up a bunch of jackets and took them to a local tailor to shorten the sleeves. What a difference that made in how I look and feel in these jackets. Torso length is still an issue, but picking the right pieces can help.

I am 62 and am from a generation that felt elastic or a drawstring waist is a sign that you had just given up🤣. Just can't embrace wearing them for anything other than exercise or lounging (I own a couple pair). I stick with denim or a casual trouser, maybe cargo pant without the drawstring. You can even find pairs with hidden elastic in the back for comfort.
