She did as any proper First Lady would do, support her husband, the President on the one hand, and on the other adopt causes for social good that needed the support, and through the use of her position mainline one or two to the benefit of all. Mental Health has always been a 'Cinderella' of health care. Stigmatized with so much baggage from shame, embarrassment to an almost religious sense of 'sin' of taint, of punishment. Mrs Carter as First Lady, did so much to free Mental Health from such stigma and bring it into the light of respectful attention and desire to do right by the sufferers of so many debilitating mental conditions.
