I have long thought that the biggest cause of miscommunication about this stuff is that liberals changed the words "being polite" to "politically correct." If this entire conversation was reframed as: "It's polite to use someone's preferred gender. It's polite to make sure black people feel included." Totally changes the entire game. But that wouldn't let them feel morally superior to anyone on the internet so they're not interested in politeness. They need you to be wrong and a terrible person to validate themselves. If you're just "impolite" they can't stake their identity against you.

Relaying the current state of the world to someone who's been on the inside is both comedic and utterly depressing. Had family who had gotten out just as Trump was being elected and that in of itself was a solid 10 minute laugh.
