Ive often heard Mike say, what matters to him, is the opinions of his peers, by which I take it to mean, he doesnt care what we think, he cares what other fighters think, which is understandable IMHO......so yeah I rekon hearing from the most highly regard boxer ever, that HE highly regards you, must mean a lot.

it made mike feel amazing, but also sad to see his idol in that condition!. i absolutely loved ali!. he was treated very badly, when as casius clay, he refused to go to viet nam!, and kill the vietnamese!. he said them people, never did anything to him!!!! AND HE WAS RIGHT!!!!!. so they suspended him from boxing, and took away his championship belt that he had won!! and he was not allowed to box, bunch of racist bastards. mohamad ali was a true humanatarian, a really, very nice man. rest in peace champ!, you will always be our champion! you are loved by many! god bless you!, rest in peace. Mike Tyson admired Ali and knocked out Larry Holmes for Ali as he hated the way Holmes beat on Ali so bad in 1980 despite his early on set of Parkinson’s as he was already showing slurred speech and tremors in his hands but was cleared to fight anyway. Tyson told Ali he was going to beat Holmes someday and he did in 1988 at age 21 and knocked out Holmes easily. Ali told Tyson before the fight “Get him for Me”

@Patrick Names Patrick you are comparing apples and oranges. When Tyson lost to Holyfield he in his heart still was pissed off that he lost. He never felt less then Holyfield. With Lewis, Tyson just felt old and past his prime. But, when he stepped into the ring to fight Lewis he didn't feel like a worse fighter. With Ali, he never fought Ali. But, Tyson STILL felt like he would have no chance against Ali. That's the difference. With the other fighters Tyson ALWAYS felt he had a chance to beat the shit out of them. If you don't understand that, then you should stop watching Boxing and embarrassing yourself on KZbin asking dumb questions.

As much as Tyson is a caricature of himself these days, he really is student of the history of Boxing. I think that is Cus D’Amato’s influence as he probably showed him films of every great boxer and their different styles. It’s sad what happened to Tyson as you watch his career as Don King and Robin Givens got a hold of him and his career slowly unraveled.

I couldn't even imagine standing a few feet away from those three. All three influenced my heavily growing up. I'm 51 now and spent my whole life in combat sports starting with wrestling and boxing when I was 15 years old. I've lost count of how many times I shadowboxed and mimicked their techniques or would spar and saw to my sparring partners (in a fun way) something that Mike, Ali, or Ray would say. When I was 15 I was in awe of Ali and Ray. They were next level. When I got older and Mike started boxing, he had that "aura" too that he mentions. All 3 of them had aura as did many great boxers of old like Willie Pep, Jack Johnson, Ricardo Lopez, Rocky Marciano, Sandy Saddler, Julian Jackson, Joe Louis, Hagler, RJJ, Sonny Liston, Benny Leonard, Jack Dempsey, etc.
