I always have felt in my addiction recovery that a therapist who is in recovery themselves are the best ones. Unfortunately throughout the years I've had many because that's a job with a huge turnover rate for some reason but I definitely made sure I let the ones that truly helped me know it and still do because I will live with this forever but I totally understand where he came from with the mental health aspect and honestly most addicts have a mental health aspect or underlying issue as well they very much can go hand in hand but this man has such a strong mindset it's very nice to hear and I bet the physical strength came first but it's still his mind which was very much a part of it too. Such respect ❤

DJ Shipley's mental health is obscured. His business plan utilizes the use of police force with civil rights violations in order to conduct regular ongoing business in his establishment. Any civil problems, he's got police force that will deal with his problems for him so that he doesn't have to deal with civil court. This is exactly what police is for. Who better to violate civil rights than a fuckboi Navy SEAL with fanboys that likes to run around with badges up their asses

DJ, every morning I hear your words: “20 minute walk”. I am a 74yr old female with multiple heath issues continually searching for ways to mitigate the effects on my mental health. Listening to you gives me ways to go forward. As a very happy, positive person I get angry with my attached insubordinate body and work to incorporate activities that afford me the time to accomplish things that my body refuses to participate in. Is it difficult, yes, but I will never give up. Sure wish we had guys like you helping us understand our Vietnam combat vet husbands. Thanks, DJ.😘

This is the second interview I listened to with DJ. Never get tired of hearing his perspective on issues. His attitude / presence is motivating. DJ is spot on, most people. especially men, don't embrace you in the tough times, they kick you to the curb, especially as you age. It's the new society we live in. Speaking from first-hand experience, I’ve had multiple TBI‘s, and PTSD events, loss of. multiple siblings, and 2 near-death experiences. And at the age of 60 I’m still fighting to overcome the setbacks. The systems in place don’t recognize the nuances that DJ reference. Clearly, a different approach is needed to have sustainable impact.

Another thing that gets me is all the Delta fan boys that 💩 all over DEVGRU for writing books and doing interviews even though there's a shit ton of Delta guys doing the same exact thing. They may not be doing it on the same scale as DEVGRU, but that's because people are more interested in DEVGRU than Delta. They do everything Delta does plus the whole ocean thing. I watch this to sharpen my understanding for what soldiers with PTSD go/went through. I'm a teacher in Germany and I prepare an event for our German heroes at my school. It was the 5th time they came to debrief is after bad calls. I use to be the quiet one. I would let everyone else talk. The final debriefing that we did. I snapped and lost it. I had a counselor chase me down and forced me to go to therapy were I was diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety and depression and was pulled off the only job that I have every loved. That lead me down a dark path with addiction and it had taken me years to get my life just back to the halfway part.

Amazing interview. Its awesome to see where DJ is now from 2 years ago when he did the interview with Shawn Ryan. The advice about steady pressure is probably the best advice anyone can get. We live in a culture that wants everything now, and especially with mental health, change takes time. Its very easy to get caught up in the day to day, and not realize the change that takes place over time. You look back a day, week, or so, nothing seems to have changed. Look back 6 months or a year, and it is visible. The concept of steady pressure gives the day to day focus necessary to stick with it without burning yourself out in the process.

Okay, Now that I listened to this in its entirety, first, DJ you’re a hell of a speaker (You should do some speaking events professionally), Second the dial switch and buffer part I listened to twice. I have to call myself out, I am horrible at a few things, I come home stressed a lot, and I hide myself in a quiet part of my house until my mood changes (I wont do it Anymore). I talk shop on the phone while driving home sometimes and I continue the call while Im walking into my house. (I wont do it anymore). I watched DJs video on The Shawn Ryan Show, he’s very open, and honest about his struggles, simply trying to help the next person. Thanks for this video, I definitely learned a lot, and now have to hold myself accountable and make some course corrections in my life.

I see a lot of comments and feedback from folks that havent been inside the looking glass. If you havent been apart of or performed at that level, save your rocks for your own glass house. I was only a mere Tier 2 Teamguy, everyone deals with what we did, what we saw and what we experienced differently. I applaud DJ for airing all of his problems and things he's had to fight through, its a testament to his character which just like his Dad, is pretty fucking great. Keep doing you Brother and continue to show people that you have to do whatever it takes to fight the dragon every day, to continue to find purpose, or you may lose the battle. We are worth it, all of us, not just combat veterans, not just veterans but men, we are worth it and finding ways and examples to share with others likely leads to helping save more, to keep the 3rd rail on contact. Hang in there gents, the Brotherhood needs every last one of us. #LLTB

Just my observation.Anyhow good luck to Chief Shipley in his journey back to life so to speak.
