A very thorough tutorial on multicam editing. Especially your troubleshooting aspect of the video was very helpful. That you are aware of the possible occuring problems and solve them in advance for others is what makes you a very good content creator on these kind of tutorials. Most of the time people lose more time on solving problems than on the understanding of the subject itself.

26:27 what can I do if I have 2 audio clips that I need to use? It was a Zoom interview, so I recorded my own audio and the other person did as well. I need to be able to select easily what audio to use in each cut. The slow way would be delete the audio that I don't need in each cut.
@JasonYadlovski3 жыл бұрын
Hi! So you can set the multicam angle switcher to use only the audio and not the video. Take a look at this video around 26:36 and you'll see 3 icons centered just below the multicam window. The first is to cut the video only, the second is to cut the video and audio and the third is to cut the audio only. If you need to change the audio after you made the cuts, you'll have to select the clip, right click, then change the 'multicam angle' in the popup menu. Is that helpful?

This video has been so useful for me over the past day or so - I'm just digging through old footage of a live gig I recorded with multi cam and I never got round to editing it. I have a live audio feed from the sound desk at the club and 3 cam angles - and this video has really perfectly explained how to match everything up and how to use it on the timeline. Downside for me was that all the 3 camera angles had issues where the camera was stopped and restarted, plus it was very loud and the mics on the camera were overloaded so could get a good auto match on audio, it was painstaking to match up, but it worked out well after watching this! Cheers!

@@JasonYadlovski it turned out all right but there's room for improvement. I deleted it started over many times but that issue still pops up.

I would recommend that you make a multicam clip in the Edit tab, not in the Cut tab sync bin. I find that generally you will end up in the Edit tab anyway and I feel like it's a better workflow to do everything in Edit. I haven't had any problems in the Edit tab and I don't really use the Cut tab much, so I'm not sure why it would be doing what you mentioned.

A couple of things I would really love to be added to Davinci, especially regarding multicam, since I use it quite often: 1. Tracks get automatically named after the first clip contained in that track. Hence the angles are automatically named then as well in the multicam view. 2. I can order the tracks with a keyboard shortcut, and not with tedious right click + move track up or down (repeating this step countless times depending on where I want the track, and how many tracks I have. I often have 10-20 tracks in a single project, even in multicam). Something like alt + dragging the track to give them a order would be a blessing for us all. 3. A way to sort the angles the way I want in multicam view. There is only 1x1, 2x1, 2x2, 4x4 etc. as an option. But what if I want to only use certain angles like the 1st the 3rd and the 8th? Since using all of them (especially in 4k) is quite heavy on my resources (I got pretty good PC components, but of course for 4k resolution and 8 different multicam angles, I need the option to regulate the multicam view on my own. What davinci offers is not enough. Proxy mode quarter resolution doesn't help much. Creating optimized media can also be tedious and takes a lot of space, even though it's only for that project temporarily, I refrain from using it too much. Showing only the angles I want in that moment would be far more helpful for me) what do you guys think? You got any ideas?
@JasonYadlovski4 жыл бұрын
Hey man, great suggestions! Thanks for sharing. The only workaround I could think of is that if you only need say 3 angles for a part of the video instead of all 8, make multiple multicam clips with fewer angles in them. Maybe that would help ease the load a little. I don't use multicam a ton and it's very taxing on my machine with only 3 angles and 1080 footage. Anything to east the load would be welcomed. Best of luck on your projects!

Hello! Great guide! I encountered this problem: there is no synchronization of the slider on the master timeline and in the multicam timeline (inside, where all the tracks are visible). How to solve this problem? so that when I open the multicam timeline, I would see the same moment as on the master timeline? I am sorry for my English)

Hi! I’m not sure that the playhead will by in sync like that. It would be convenient, I’m just not sure that it works that way at the moment. I’ve been doing a bunch of multicam work lately, and have noticed the same thing.

Great video but at 22:10 how did you get all your multicam angle changes back in the timeline view? I'm super new to all this and you "jumped back to the edit tab" but then the view changed and I couldn't see what you clicked or whatever? Hi! Thanks! Along the bottom of the DaVinci Resolve window is a bunch of icons. The third one in from the left is the edit tab. That's what I clicked. Each icon along the bottom will bring you to another tab. The order is Media, Cut, Edit, Fusion, Color, Fairlight, Deliver. Hope this helps!

What a great tutorial! I'll be editing multi cam for the first time and will use this as my guide. With regards to optimisation and cache, do I need to switch these off and back to normal when doing my final render for you tube?
@JasonYadlovski2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for checking out the video! No, you do not need to turn off the optimizations or cache, Resolve will use the full res files and full res everything else for rendering, unless you specify otherwise. All the optimization is just for smoother playback. 😁

Excellent Video!! I recently took video of a performance with 3 cameras and I want to utilize all three cameras' audio tracks and simply mix them to the final audio I want to use for the finished product. My only approach is to copy and paste the various audio tracks into timeline 1 and mix from there, and would like to know if there is a better approach?
@JasonYadlovski3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Sure, I would use a multicam clip. You can have it change audio along with the video if you want. If you want to hear all three audio tracks, add just the audio to the timeline outside of the multicam clip. Hope this makes sense.

Awesome video dude...could you also make a multicam video edit tutorial for music cover videos?
@JasonYadlovski4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would if I had a band to film a multi-angle music video of. 😁 I would basically have the band play the song a few times and get as many different video angles I needed. Then I'd use a good recording of the song to lay under the video. Sync it all up, make my cuts and we'd have a music video! Of course there's more involved, but you get the idea... 😁

Another great video 🙌🏾 The sync bin is pretty amazing Not sure if it was mentioned but in the Edit page you can also change the multicam angle by holding Opt + pressing a number key to switch that angle where the playhead is parked on the timeline. Also, Opt + Click will change the angle.

I see you replying to almost everyone, would like to share my problem. I use a Dell XPS 15 9570, i7 16gb Ram, with gtx 1050 ti, and resolve couldn't playback my footages no matter what. I generally edit 1080p or 720p, normal fusion work and colour grading. Playback is very choppy. I tried everything, optimization and render cache. I wish resolve had Pre render feature and which everything could be played back.
@JasonYadlovski4 жыл бұрын
I do my best to get back to everyone who leaves a comment. I appreciate the time people take to leave a question or comment. 😁 Sounds like you tried what I'd recommend. Just to list it again, here's what I'd try: - Create optimized media for all of your files. Consider using a smaller filetype for smaller optimized media files. - Playback menu - Render Cache - Smart - Playback menu - Proxy Mode - Use Half or Quarter, you may need to use Quarter - Go into project settings, master settings and under Optimized media and render cache - update the optimized media & render cache format, 'check on' all of the options below that. Go to the bottom of the window and check the 'retime process'. Set it to Nearest, Motion estimation to Standard Faster. These should help enough for playback to be smooth. If not, maybe your machine is just underpowered for all of the effects, fusion, colorgrading, etc. that you're trying to add in. Hope some of this helps! Best of Luck!

You’re welcome! Check out the timeline view options where it will allow you to open and close timelines. I believe it’s the icon in the top left of the timeline viewer options. Or just select the timeline from your media pool that you want to open and double click it. That should open it up for you and close the multicamp timeline.

Thanks for your great videos. I try on multi cam to change the audio for a few seconds to the audio on the camera and then go back to the professional and good audio. I do not know how to do it?
@JasonYadlovski3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for checking out my videos! You can do that by taking a look in the multi cam viewer, and several windows in your left hand viewer, and if you hovered towards the bottom of the fewer you’ll see that you can choose either just the video, just the audio or both to change when you select different angles. In your particular case it sounds like you want to change just the audio, you can do that. Another way you can do that is to just make the cuts in your multi cam where you wanna hear a different audio. Then in your timeline right click on your audio clip then change the angle to be the audio that you wish. Hope this helps!

I've been digging for weeks and have stumped the davinci support team. I need to split multiple mono audio recordings in a multicam clip but also keep those synced to the original camera angle. So Cam 1 (even with audio clip tributes changed to 2 mono tracks) will be added to the multicam clip at adaptive and there is no way to split them to 2 independently controllable audio tracks that stay connected to Cam 1.
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
Without looking at your files and playing around with the project, my first thought is why not just throw your video clip and the two audio clips in their own timeline or their own compound clip. Then you retain both audio tracks in a mono format, you can go back and add them if you need to, and then your main timeline, you only have essentially one clip, which is either the timeline or compound clip, which ever you choose to use. You could probably even put that compound clip or timeline into a multicam clip in your main timeline
@Shauny_D Жыл бұрын
@@JasonYadlovski Yah that’s sort of what i ended up with. Dropping all 12 additional individual audio tracks on the timeline under one multicam video track. So i just have to cut audio along with each video cut. Painful with monthly hour long sessions. I’m multicam recording with Atem iso so i have all my live cuts in real time on cut page but that is a huge pain and still have the same audio issues not being able to split things out. If the atem iso would just give you a multicam clip instead of the weird sync bin crap it’d reduce my editing time from 20hours to probably 3 🙄

Hi. Is there an option to just use numbers for camera angles without seeing any of them at all (as i know how they look anyway)? This way I would only see cuts in one clip and it would make it easier for computer to play smoother. Thank you
@JasonYadlovski3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, you can use the numbers to change angles. I think I mentioned that in the video but I don’t remember, I made this quite a while back.

@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for quick reply. I know, you did say it. But the question is:" Can it be done without any angle being shown, so the gpu has less work to do? Many thanks again
@JasonYadlovski3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure but I don’t think so. Do you need to have the multi cam viewer up on the left viewer so that you can change angles. Unless you just make your cuts but then you have to manually change the angle I believe. I would recommend you try lowering the playback resolution to either half or quarter. That should help with your playback.

Very well explained, really good video! I have a question: I don't have several cameras, just one long recording of the same thing one after the other, so I've created an in-out, then dragged that video portion to my timeline, then scrubbed, new in-out, again drag&drop to another track etc. How could I create a multicam kind of thing out of these subclips (they have the same music playing each time)?
@JasonYadlovski3 жыл бұрын
Hi! So since you have the clips you want in the timeline, you can actually just select each clip and drag it back into the media pool. This will make a new sub clip for you. Once you have both in the media pool, select both clips and right click, then choose 'create multicam clip'. Then you should have your multicam clip and you can work with it the way I show in the video. Let me know if you have any troubles. I'm happy to help more. 😁👍
@TominatorBelgium3 жыл бұрын
It works! I just had to rename every drag&drop to "vid 1", "vid 2" and so on, because otherwise it won't add the duplicate (original) clip name, and then I could use every tip and trick in this video. Thanks a ton!
