Nice video, mine have sprouted so fast from whit/yellow/green that i hardly noticed it. I was just draining the water from the button and giving them three times a day new water. Guess they are at day 6 or 7 and they're already about 15 cm tall including roots, since i didn't know if the leafy greens still could be eaten i check KZbin- found your video. Thanks saved my mungo beans from being deported from my kitchen to my garden, was about to plant them somewhere to mature and receive new seeds to start over with the thought that only white yellowish leaves where eatable.

Glad it helped. I should also try to change the water 3 times a day for faster & better growth.

Nice vid. I like the music, the visuals and the pace. Simple process, nice results. I have the exact tray, so I'll get on the process today. One question is, do you think that the tray should sit on a heat pad during the winter months for the first days of germination? Thanks a lot.
@PhillySpecial3 жыл бұрын
The seeds like temperature above 75F to sprout. In winter I have also use a heat pad for first 2-3 days. If the temperature is low the sprouts process is very slow. Thanks !!

THANK YOU!! I might use them before the leaves get so green in stir fries so they are not so bitter and try putting them in boiling water first as you shared. I am SO HAPPY as i have this tray! Have you ever tried this with Sunflower seeds? What did you use for the clear thing you put over them before adding the cans? Did you buy that or where did you find it? Thanks so so much! Morgine

My tray also did not come with that clear sheet. I used a document protector & modified it. You can find it in staples/amazon. Search for Deflecto Classic Image Wall Mount Sign Holder, Single-Sided, Vertical, 8.5" x 11". I agree its better to harvest them before they get too big & woody tasting !! These trays are good for sunflower too & they come out good (good for any large size seeds). Glad that you liked the video. Thanks !!

Thank you for the video. I’ve sprouted mung beans before in a jar and enjoyed them in salads and sandwiches. Can you eat the leaves raw (even if they are bitter) if I try growing them this way, or do you have to sauté them ?

For some microgreen you can get a 2nd or even 3rd harvest, although the yield reduces subsequently. I have tried it with pea shoots where new stem & leaves came up within 2-3 days, but I have not tried it with mung beans.

It just needs fresh water. The seed is packing with enough nutrients to last the first few days of the young plants life.

Thank you very much for your comment. I totally agree, the best time to harvest is when the leaves are just coming out and the roots have not yet developed.

for most of microgreens, can use the same methods? like alfalfa and aragula?
@PhillySpecial3 жыл бұрын
I have tried pea & wheat and they came out good. Sorry I have not tried alfalfa or aragula so I cant confirm, but it appears you can use this method for most microgreens as long as the seeds are large enough to not fall through the mesh.
@issacvarghese5413 жыл бұрын
No, because the seeds are so small and get spoiled. I use coco peat. This will allow roots to attach to the medium.

Cut above the roots (Don’t use the root - does not taste good). Leaf and stem you can steer fry. You can add to hot soup if you pick them before leaves are formed. Some people eat it raw with salad.
@ginabisaillon2894 Жыл бұрын
I harvest them as soon as the little leaves come out. Mostly I grow these to put in my Vietnamese spring rolls But when I have a lot I also make chop suey. I don't have a sunny window where I could leave them until they become micro greens, but that's OK.

@PhillySpecial3 жыл бұрын
On first 3 days hardly any water is needed in the lower tray. Please keep water to minimum & also change the water at least once a day. Water issue is the only thing I can think that could cause mold issues in the first few days.

Once the roots start developing they go down through the mesh and grows in all directions. It is very difficult to pull out a plant without damaging the root system. I would not recommend to start seeds in the grow trays & latter plant in soil. This tray is only good to grow seeds for microgreen/green purposes. Thanks.

I typically do not weigh the seeds. Before soaking the seeds I take the dry seeds and spread it on the tray. That gives me a good idea on the amount of seeds needed. This has worked for me well on different type of seeds.

As they turn from sprouts to greens the taste definitely changes. It’s not bitter, it’s different. It’s better to sauté at this point.
