One of my favorite kits. I add around 1,5kg - 2kg spray malt to make it a bit stronger and maltier.

I'm a big fan of malt extract. Put a netted bag of malted barley (5kg ish) in some hot (67°C ish) water for an hour and you've got malt extract. Boil it for an hour. There is no mystery. It's easy. Adding hops is good too.

I brewed this Kit but added, 1.2kg of Liquid malt extract 500g medium DME 500g Dark Brown Sugar Fermanted at 15 litres Dry hopped with 25g of Pilgrim (pellets) and also added 750ml of maple syrup at that time. Then chucked in 200g Lactose when bottling. Came out at 11% and was a lovely beer for the autumn/winter. 🙂

Wow 15ltrs what was the body like and head retention.Must say sounds goof but was it a bit thick ?

@@beerloverTV Yeah, it is quite thick but head is ok. I primed it with 80g of dextrose so it carbed well in the bottle. It is quite sweet and full flavoured though so glad I only put it in 330ml bottles. Good for a dessert beer or a 2 bottle night in.😉 A mate said it tasted like Clootie Dumpling. I decided to try it as my local brewery (Tempest) did one called All the Leaves are brown which is delicious but it's £6.50 a bottle.😯 Mine tasted quite different but not bad given the £5.50 price difference.😉

Thanks for the review! Did you swap out the yeast that came with the kit? If not, do you know if it would make much of a difference, since you remarked that tastewise there was not a lot going on? I have just brewed this myself, and I can’t wait to try it. I did not splash it around to increase the oxygen content prior to fermentation. Hopefully it will turn out ok. It would be great if you would do more munton reviews, perhaps touching in on the differences in taste betwean the premium, gold and connoisseur range products. I mean, there are lager variants in all of these, how big of a difference can there be?

Hi i dont recall changing the yeast on this. I dont really ever do that on a first brew of a kit and theres not many i have brewed twice. Yeast will always have a impact on any beer if you swap out. That said most kits come with a fairly good one and enough to ferment it well.You will be ok with the oyxgen its always advisable but as long as you had the ferment start it will carry itself through as long as you keep stable temps.Some of the kits vary and certainly the two can kits are always better and more rounded. This by no means a bad beer and dont forget tastes is perceptive you may enjoy it more than the next person would.

Recently I've been really wanting to try some beer kits but as you say, every time I see the price I get cold feet. A one can kit might be worth trying as I have a lot of spare dme that is close to its use by date.

Looks like a very tasty drop. I think you're right that a lot of the newer kits these days are a lot better than the ones from the early days. Maybe they are putting more effort into their processes as people expect more from the end product. Cheers mate

Really does depend.Wilko for some.Malt miller or have a look on ebay sometimes some bargains from homebrew shops.
