... and it was one of the better renditions done here too. Funny thing is, almost everyone would proclaim Taylor Hawkins a significantly greater drummer (and in technical skills, for sure)... but I think what Duff played fit the song better than what Taylor did on his. Talyor's group's version seemed too loose and off to me, for professionals.

I'd been listening to other stuff and missed them. Did a deep dive in their back catalogue, definitely a fan now Them and rediscovering Fishbone, who I'd probably not listened to in 30 years were the highlights. Honorable mention to Chris Cornell's daughter too, she grew up with uncles Layne, Jerry, Mike and Sean.

I dug it, but I thought it was too safe. I don’t really see the point of covers that closely resemble the original. The whole point in my opinion is to honor the original, while also adding your own uniqueness to it. Aside from Fieldy’s bass which is just expected at this point, I didn’t really hear nearly as much as I wanted of Korn’s signature sound. Jon sounded nice, but he always does.

Sammy Hagar had the best quote of the night: "thank YOU MoPOP for getting it right & recognizing this band". Knowing their donors would never be able to sit through a hard rock show, what better time than to hold a virtual fundraiser & honor one of Seattle's big 4. But honestly, AIC? They could've easily posthumously honored Nirvana, the most successful of the 4,. Or Seattle's altruistic darlings Pearl Jam, who have also had more commercial success. Or Soundgarden, the band that everyone had predicted would put Seattle's music scene on the map & who just lost arguably the greatest studio vocalists of all time. But no, they chose my band, who sang about drugs, death & despair and who lost 2 members to addiction. It certainly feels like AIC is always treated as the red-headed stepchild of the 4, but they've actually sold 30 million records - which is more than 'Garden - and their beautifully crafted harmonies set them apart from every other band. RatM's Tom Morello, who also added praise, said "it took me probably another 6 yrs after I first saw them to finally "get" this band". Thank you MoPOP for "getting it".
@invaliduserid5807
@invaliduserid5807 3 жыл бұрын
You got that right! I agree with you on every point especially about Chris being the greatest vocalist of all time. I'm not quite sure about what you mean when you included "studio" in that but either way, he could out-sing anyone. Layne is my favorite lead singer even though I freely admit that Chris was more talented. Layne's vocals were able to "reach me" a little better and when I was at the lowest point of loneliness, depression, despair, pain, anguish, and staring suicide right in the eye, Layne was there with Jerry, Mike, Sean, and Mike was there to give me a voice and make me feel like I wasn't alone in my struggles. I got more into Soundgarden later than them and found that they were also as cool and expressed many of the same experiences/feelings in their music.
@drzal8553

@@invaliduserid5807 No disrespect to Chris & that beautiful voice of his, but he couldn't always replicate those epic screams of his live and his voice notoriously couldn't hold up on tour, leading to many postponements & cancellations of shows. But in the recording studio, he was arguably one of the greatest vocalists ever.

The MoPop honors for Alice In Chains wasnt just a great showcase for bands that were influenced by Alice In Chains, it really felt more like a collective spiritual rock n roll, cultural tribute to Chris Cornell, the lives of the people who work as artists around Seattle, and the overall cultural, social and political times we are living in 2020. I really felt this collective healing from all the artists who wanted to show their love for Alice In Chains and for the Seattle grunge music scene and yes definitely , there was a real deeper music connection to the late great Chris Cornell. Jerry is one of my favorite musicians I enjoy almost all his writing and support him as an artist. Seans drumming is one of a kind, mike and will fit and complete the circle. All the performances were fun to watch. I cried when i heard aics version of black gives way to blue the first time, just an amazing piece of music. Lilly Silver Cornell gave such a beautiful performance it touched my soul in an unexpected way. It reinstilled my hope in humanity. Thank u Alice in Chains and all supporting artists present in this video.

@@SeanTenney777 Even as a fan it’s painful, but imagine being Lily or Jerry or Eddie or any of these guys and having to deal with so much loss. To us they’re great talents and people we’d love to have known, but for them they were best friends, partners, fathers, sons.

Made me cry. When I first heard that song I was on a road trip to Santa Cruz. I will forever remember this song because of it.

It's great to see Mark Lanegan in there. His performance on Nutshell moved me to tears, absolutely beautiful. Always been a big fan of that song.
