Thats whats cool about a lot of the lesser known country stars coming out( apparently people are calling this subgenre americana, idk dont really matter to me) is that they are all unique and the fact that when i describe them to people that havent heard them i cant really place them in a pre-existing subgenre or even accurately describe their music, which makes them just that much more unique and authentic.

How does one develop the voice of a weatherbeaten chain cigar smoking 65 yr old downtrodden troubadour in 17-20 years?? He's a talented kid for certain and it is refreshing and rare this day & time to experience someone with a new and authentic yet somewhat old schoolish sound, far from the top 40 "pop" music row BS that Nashville dictates for radio play. I personally can no longer bear listening to country radio anymore because aside from Chris Stapleton, it all sounds like the same crap. Thank goodness for KZbin, otherwise, I may have never been exposed to Colton, Sturgil and the handful of the current artists who actually have a soul that I very much appreciate and enjoy listening to. Wall God It’s simple. If you are getting one because someone else wore one, then you aren’t country. The reason you already had one if you are actually country is because their is no other headwear nearly as useful. Nothing else keeps the rain from going down the neck of your duster. Nothing else blocks the sun as well. You can feed or water your horse out of it. There is nothing like it. Plus, when you go by the brand name (Stetson) it’s obvious that you aren’t country. Even more so than calling it a cowboy hat. It’s just a hat, because nothing else comes close. Everything else is just a cap.

It was a cold and cruel evening sneakin’ up on Speedy Creek, I found myself a-sleepin’ in the snow, For one or two odd reasons I ain’t too proud to repeat, For now we’ll say I had no place to go, There was a rustle and a hummin’ just haulin’ down the street, I drew myself up from my icy bed, Painted on that shiny car the letters R C M and P, I could feel a little achin’ in my head, And then out jumps this old boy about a-twice the size of me, He asked me for my name and where I dwelt, And I just looked him in the eye and sang Blue Yodel No. 9, He didn’t catch the reference I could tell, Then the old familiar click and the handcuff’s bindin’ grip, He should’ve left me in the snow where I lay, Well he just laughed and touched his gun and turnin’ to me he said, “Son, I bet you don’t own a damn thing to your name.” “I got my health, my John B. Stetson, I got me a bottle full of baby’s Bluebird Wine, I left my stash somewhere down in Preston, Along with 13 silver dollars and my mind.”

Oh wow....it was great until the band kicked in. Then it just freaked me out. Absolutely amazing !This is exactly what I've been looking for in music. Thank you. Instantly biggest fan!

Man, Colter's voice really benefits from a full band. Not that it doesn't stand alone, but it really brings out the fullness when accompanied by drums, fiddle, etc.
