In my view sir. What I learned from your expert Tec tips will carry on with me. I. E. The bit about the leaking being normal until seal sits proper. Overall a top notch video. The winding country roads and of course. The rolling piece of art. The mighty cx650turbo.

Came back to riding 14 years ago with a US import CX500 Custom. I too changed the cam chain, tensioner and water pump seal then I had the embedded CDI source coils fail. Managed to get an aftermarket replacement unit that does away with the source coils. Removing the engine on a non-Turbo CX is relatively easy. Still have the bike, it's not pristine but it still works and no road tax to fork out for.

My 1981 CX500B is still on the original stator at around 60k....the reason the stator burns out is down to a faulty regulator not hot oil.

Interesting, I'd read my info on the turbo owner's club. Have had reg recs pack up many times on different bikes in the past and none ever damaged the stator only the battery... Will have to keep my eyes open. Thanks.

I just wish it was under the conventional side cover like most bikes but on a Vtwin it wouldn't be possible.... Or stick a bloody alternator on it. ☺

Always fancied one of them in my dispatching days in the 80s, but never managed to have one instead stuck with the trusted plastic maggot.. but I got rid of them every 15,000 miles to avoid doing that job. Nice to see a real old bike certainly over this retro season we’re going through… classic and classy.

Mightily impressive is what I think. That kind of strip down work scares the bejesus out of me. The "Now where the fk did I put that ....." factor must have been quite high. So hats off to you. It was well worth it too by the looks, Beautiful machine. Well Done.

Now that’s a great bike. Rides like a big 2 stroke when that boost comes in. Shame parts are such a problem but not surprisingly for a 1700 run one year bike.

I see you have the taller screen on it. I knew a rider who bought one of the few early ones in the UK, It was so quick it scared him and I don't know how long he kept it. By that time I was no longer riding motor bikes.

Great to see you keeping this classic on the road. I had two CX650Ts back in the day and made the mistake of selling my last one in 95 for a massive £5K, it was the last one registered in the UK as a K reg as it sat at Honda UK's showroom for years in Chiswick iirc. On my first one the stator went when I was in Germany on holiday near Lake Constance. I took it to a BMW dealer and they told me "Der licht machine is Kaput" meaning the alternator lol. They replaced it but did a crap job, on the way home I noticed the head gasket was leaking water at Calais, but it made it back to Nottingham and I then took the engine out and replaced the gasket and did a full service on it, man that engine was heavy, I could just lift it, wouldn't try that now, would give me a hernia. Best bike I ever owned and the fastest, my god that roll on acceleration would leave many 2023 bike in the dust.

I think a lot of people change these components unnecessarily. My standard CX500 has 90k miles on the original stator. Cam chains yes, 40k miles probably best to change at. Regardless, lovely machine you have there! Would love a turbo one day!
@RoadcraftNottingham
@RoadcraftNottingham Жыл бұрын
Generally I'll replace things when they're ready but in this case, for the cost of the parts it's just so much easier and now, hopefully I'll never do that many miles to need it again. ☺
@Blurredman
@Blurredman Жыл бұрын
@@RoadcraftNottingham I must admit, I am a miser. But obviously in your case you had reason to - I agree with your conclusion based on the facts you found. But those who replace a component when it still realistically has many years/miles in it seems a waste. Also: never do that many miles? That sounds like a sad thing to profess when on such a nice bike! :P

Do you find that wind deflector is helpful? I'm 6'1" and the wind off my Turbo's fairing hits my helmet hard. If i duck my head about 3 inches, it's dead silent.
