Nice work! That's the best way to run and gun. There's a remedy you may try that worked for me using the gri-gri plus. I use a prussik knot as an auto block attached to my lineman's loop and then attached to my brake line. That helped stop line feeding thru when not under tension. Hope that helps!

I see you’re using a different hand ascender now rather than the ct quick roll ... is that for packability reasons? I was going to order a quick roll and rope soon so always checking your videos for updates. Also the rope you had from Mike Isbell with the aluminum ring spliced in and the loop on the other end ... not using that anymore? I liked that idea ... were there issues with that? Thanks for all you videos and info ... very helpful .... John
@srtsaddlehunter32853 жыл бұрын
Hey John yes I switched to the kong Futura hand ascender for its extreme packability. It just stays in my pouch all the time. I sold that Isbell rope as well. I went with the canyon c iv. I wanted 1 system that I could 1 stick with or climb srt. It works out pretty darn good. The old setup was much better for srt but the new setup is ideal for 1 sticking or srt.

You're going back to the Safeguard? What was the reason for the switch to the Lifeguard?

Yes I went back to safeguard. Did you see in the video how the rope would run in the lifeguard? I wasn't a fan of that
@jimste58983 жыл бұрын
I did. The Lifeguard isn't ideal for 1 sticking because it will slide downtherope. It'sdesigned for belaying. I was wondering why you switched from the Safeguard and went to the Lifeguard? Or, were you saying you switched from the Lifeguard to the Safeguard?

@@jimste5898 I had a safeguard. Got a lifeguard and sold the safeguard...then realized I made a mistake
@jimste58983 жыл бұрын
Ok. I kinda did the same. I got a Lifeguard because there were no Safeguards available, anywhere. Lol. The first time I used the Lifeguard, I knew that wasn't the way to go. Lol. I gave it away. When a Safeguard became available, I got it. That was a great decision. I liked your video, by the way.

So are you one sticking up or SRT your way up?
@srtsaddlehunter32854 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul. Im finding this to be a hybrid setup...like I'm packing this gear for both. I prefer srt. But id I go to a tree that is prepped for srt and say the paracord loop is gone or somehow it falls off my branch...had that happen last year. I can 1 stick up. I can run and gun with this setup. I can climb srt and use the stick as my platform. Im trying to have a really thought out well rounded system. I had to pull out all the tricks today to get an srt loop on a tree. Ended up 1 sticking. Then i got my stick caught when I went to advance it so I repelled down then used my hand ascender to get back up to my tether. It worked quite well.

Just so I get this straight....you use the Canyon rope as a combination tree tether and rappell rope? If so, do you climb with all of the rope on the ground or do you feed it from a dump pouch as needed?

If I 1 stick it stays in my pouch until I rappel down. Im going to upload a video later tonight and you will see how I store it

@@nathansdad04 basically you hook your tether up and slide it up as you would a linemans as you go up and the remaining line is left in your pouch as you climb so it's not in your way. When you're at hunting height and you're all set to hunt, just take the rest of your rope out of your pouch and tie it to your hys strap or whatever you're using if you want it off your body and out of the way. I have this same setup minus the srt but I need to go grab one if those fender washers to use as my tether stopper. I have one of those "9mm ohm ropes" or whatever but I'd lije to use the rubber washer AND the ohm I think. Hmm

I could use one if my gear ties like you have. I'm sure this "ohm clamp" thing will work fine. Idk I haven't used it yet. Just got it but idk it clamps to the 9mm rope pretty tight but idk if it's going to prevent it from sliding through it. Feels iffy

Are you talking about using a 7ft tether to climb with?
@danhoff44013 жыл бұрын
I picked up a cobbled together hand climber last summer, v bar bottom and traction belt top. I tried both and prefer the top, even unmodded. It was main platform/climbing method this year and I rappelled down on the same 9mm canyon with a beal birdie. Left a preset loop if I liked the spot. I also have the same complaint about the birdie, it will introduce slack just with its own weight when unloaded. I also think it is faster to climb on a prussic than the birdie with the hand climber because of the slack issue. So I use a french prussic typically.
