That's so neat that you were a Spanish major and learn you are from that area. And i love the story about you buying a carpet in North Africa. Too funny!

Ghana and nearby Ivory Coast are likely to be some folks who speak Akan languages, people like the Asante (Ashanti) in the middle of Ghana, and the Fante along the coast. The Fante tended to be organized by town. The Asante really began to expand as an empire around 1700, but I'm rust on that.

I really enjoyed your video! Congratulations!! We share the same top two African regions. My was Cameroon/Congo though. I have the Iberian Peninsula region as well, but not as much as you. I'm jealous, lol. I always connected with the Spanish language and I speak Spanish fluently. I got Great Britain as well and Scandinavia. That was a shock!! I had no clue. I'm so glad I took this test.

It's most likely that this man's african and iberian DNA got mixed due to the portuguese presence in the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Congo, Benin, Togo, etc. but he's already talking in Spanish x'D . All those regions are very close or next to each others, and they're all associated to the portuguese one way or another. Many of these land names are english derivations/translations from portuguese names given by portuguese explorers, as they were the first europeans to set foot on many of these lands. If you want to dig up on the past of those regions, it's pretty ugly, some of them are part of what was at some point known as the slave coast due to the slave trade between the portuguese (& other european empires) and african kings ruling those regions, selling their war captives to europeans during the transatlantic slave trade. This practice flourished for centuries.

Any ancestry that is less than 1 percent has to be taken with a grain of salt. It just means that DNA is more watered down, and could be filled with discrepancies. I have less than 1 percent Iberian peninsula, but if you were to ask me am I Spanish the answer would be no.

I've always been suspicious of DNA ancestry testing, as there is so little to distinguish one race from another, and less to distinguish one nationality from another within a continent. Considerably more than 99% of the human genome is indistinguishable regardless of race, there is more to distinguish a brother from a sister (an entire chromosome's difference) than any 2 men or 2 women from different continents. All this localizing difference has to be packed into that tiny fraction of a fragment of a percent of the genome. At most, a given gene might be said to be most common in Senegal or Finland, but nothing is peculiar to a given region, and very little to a given continent. I have a pretty good idea of my ancestry. My father's parents came from Scotland in 1919 My grandfather's father was a shoemaker, the last of a long line of shoemakers, in a village called Avoch, and my grandmother's ran a livery stable in Aberdeen. My Mother's grandparents on her Mom's side came from Sweden (her grandfather was a photographer in Ostersund) and on her Dad's side from Germany, some Poles among the Germans (his grandfather was a musician in Bremen, I've seen his German exit visa) both coming to the US in the 1870s. I don't begrudge you your desire to find out about your ancestry (if I knew less about mine, I'd be looking for a way myself) but I wonder about the accuracy of the method.
@TallicatGames
@TallicatGames 8 жыл бұрын
At least through the mother's side, you can accurately trace your DNA using mitochondrial markers. Those do not change no matter how many generations separated you are from your great-great-great-whatever, as long as it is through your mother's line.

Hey, because you have so much Iberian peninsula and hardly any Western European or UK DNA. Yours is very unusual and I've seen a lot of DNA tests but none like yours. The people from the Islands are usually heavily African but the Caribbean folks are heavily European so I was guessing you are one of the rare people but from the islands.

Hey, thanks When I was explaining it I didn't think I was doing so well. When I thought about it for awhile I guess I was thinking of people with African and Spanish heritage and you fit the bill even though you have more African than most but you also fall in with the Jamaicans which have more Africans. You just don't seem like an American result but in a way you are because you are mixed like an American just differently lol.

Latin and latino mean two different things. One is a language the other a term used to refer to people in the Americas of Spanish and native American ancestry. The term latino is not used in Europe. I know I'm European!

That less than 1% naive American doesn't mean you have it. The test doesn't detect it. you need a separate test for it. Mine said the same and I was told told those who are actually Native American that even theirs didn't show.

AncestryDNA told me sometimes Native Americans and Siberian and East Asian gets grouped together sometimes by the the computor because 90% of Native Americans are Y-DNA Q and C which is the same as Siberian and Mongol Q and C Haplogroups....

The nations that colonialism put together to make Nigeria were heavily preyed on by the enslaving trade, so yeah your small 'Nigeria component' is a bit surprising. Waiting for my results now, hoping to avoid being 100% European. :]
