Last year I set a goal to really listen to my body and trust my gut when it told me that I needed to focus more on my relationship and life and take a step back from renovating our cottage in Texas. I am very excited to report that my gut was right and I have a big surprise. In today's episode, I'm diving into goal setting and how making a plan for the year is the only way to set your life on the right path to achieve your big goals.

When I had my son I hated all the unsolicited advice. But I will offer this to you and Romeo. Baby will take up all of your life. But do not forget about each other. Take a few moments everyday to check in with the other one. See how they are feeling and to connect as a couple. That’s it. Congratulations and I know you and him will be wonderful parents.

That’s true. Baby becomes priority and it’s easy to forget the spouse. I think it’s often the man who is extra stressed when certain needs are not met. , and not just the intimate side…the mother become instinctually very focused.

You just put into words what I have been feeling for the past 3 years. My mama was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 3 years ago and my dad was determined to keep her home as long as he could, so with my husband and son’s full support, I moved back in with my parents to help. They both passed away this year 4 months apart and I had no idea how exhausted and emotionally drained I was until my brother (bless him) sat me down in October 3 months after my dad passed and after their funeral and said “You did more than anyone expected or asked and you have been living in limbo for 3 years. Move back home and pick up your life, you deserve that and more!” I did exactly that and it has almost been surreal. My son and his fiancée had taken care of our home (my hubby is a long haul trucker) so it was almost like I moved in with them. Things are good and in 2024, I am renovating my kitchen and updating the rest of my home and since I spent those 3 years watching you renovate the cottage and taking copious notes, thank you SO much!! Congrats again on your pregnancy and as a mama, I can decidedly tell you your life will be turned upside down in the best way and just remember to enjoy the ride, they grow up so fast!

I was 34 when I had a baby. My children are 11 years apart. I think I was a much better mom when I was older(34). I wish I had waited longer with the first. I was older, wiser and more mature. I was just a better mom.! So don't worry th a t you are older it's better in my personal openion, at least for me. Wisdom comes with age.😊

The pitfall of every driven over-achiever is that hyper critical constant urge to improve and never being able to relax into the achievements. Good for you to listen to your heart and mind and body and get off that hamster wheel and give yourself grace. Please know that what you put out is far and above anything typical. I'm going to speak as your community, your authentic self is everything we love. I'm so over the moon for you and Romeo and your parents. Thank you for sharing yourselves with us. ❤ I wish you good fortune into 2024 and can't wait to see what is coming next. (no pressure....only joy)

McKenna we’re all so selfish w our you tube relationships! I can’t image how your families are feeling about “thee BABY”. Surrender was my mantra in my own infertility journey 20years ago. A roller coaster of not having control. We’ll fast for Ward to perfect wonderful twin daughter..my mantra remains. Surrender. Your followers might benefit from this journey and questions filtered thru a therapist on a podcast. Because everyone can learn but often so distracted by well meaning advise not geared towards mental health. 2023 shook me to my core the lost of. 2 family members & a dear friend. It’s time for a reset. Priorities of family & friends and making memories. So cheers everyone who loves to he channel- happy 2024.

I remember with both my pregnancies, the complete exhaustion. I really struggled. I had never been so drained in my entire life and I used to work 3 jobs, one of which was a nightclub, so I wasn’t getting home til 3 or 4am. My husband (ex now) just kept calling me lazy and I really started thinking I was! Then my midwife said to me ‘your body is working overtime to make another human being, you are allowed to be tired’ and I had never thought of it like that before. So, relax when your body is telling you to. It’s putting so much energy into making your baby, let it rest 😁 Congratulations again. It’s wonderful news xx

I am sooo happy for you!!! When I saw the video on Christmas I screamed as if you were an old friend :) I'm almost 26 weeks pregnant with my 3rd boy and even though I'm frickin OVER IT and have had the hardest pregnancy thus far, everything about pregnancy and having babies is so fascinating to me even still. Hearing you say "it worked" in this podcast, when you switched up your priorities, brought tears to my eyes. How wise these souls are. They choose when they want to be here and with whom they want to be with and I am so happy that it's all happening for you and Romeo right now! Incredible. Also, don't let them scare you/infiltrate your mind (lol) with all this "geriatric" sh** lol you're healthy and you take care of your body and your mind. There's nothing geriatric about you so when they say it, take it with a grain of salt and really go inward and follow your instincts -- you already have mother's intuition, I promise you ♥ I hope you have a beautiful and empowering birth and I wish you all the best! Thank you for all that you share and especially about the pregnancy fatigue and how damn hard it is being pregnant in general lololol -xo

Something I started in the week before Christmas that I'm going to carry on into the New Year that might help you is suuuuuper detailed To Do lists. I mean if there's half a dozen items sitting on a table that I need to find homes for I make each individual item it's own point on the list instead of just putting 'clear the table' - that way if I had 3 things on the table that I could put away easily I could tick off those 3 items and feel accomplished and didn't need to push myself to complete it as 1 big job that I couldn't tick off until I'd put all 6 things away. Or I broke big jobs into their component parts, gather supplies, do 1st part of job, do second part of job, do finishing touches, clean up, put supplies away - all separate items that I could rest in between. I had a 200 item To Do list before Christmas but it wasn't overwhelming because I could spend half and hour and do 20 tiny jobs and then sit down and have the satisfaction of scratching them all off my list. Plus I let myself have carry over items. If I didn't manage to tick off an item by the time I needed to make another list then I just added that item to the new list, or the list after that, and when i did get it ticked off I'd feel even more accomplished. And I added every day automatic items like 'have a shower' 'prep dinner' things I was gonna do anyway, they didn't need to be on my list but having them there made them part of my goals I wanted to accomplish and not something that got rushed through because I'd pushed it to the back-burner trying to get everything on my list done.

All of these mental mind games you had with yourself are going out the window when the birth of your baby arrives. Your self identity of what it means to be a female, a giver of life will become your crowning jewel. You won't comprehend the love you will have for your child. The fierce protection over it's life for life. When you become a mother you'll want it all. The home, the child and the husband. I don't know you, but I want that for you. To experience what it is to be so cherished a vow is made to you.

I was 38 having my first son, born in June on Friday the 13th over 30 years ago. I freaked and cried over that being our birth date when my doctor forgot to schedule me, but I had already carried over two weeks (a new schedule would have put me out even further). My son thinks it is wonderful when his birthday falls on Friday. This year the 13th, a date your Mom mentioned at your visit to Texas is not a Friday. I only have two sons, but even a wink after the first often results in pregnancy when the first pregnancy came slowly. I was 40 with my second. It is harder having children at an older age to have as much energy as it takes, but for me the blessing is they have kept me young when I am not. Every age has its blessings, but having what you and your Mom have with my boys and the women (my girls) they have brought in my life is wonderful. So thrilled for your news. Little Bean is my youngest son's cat, so it was really cute to hear you refer to your baby as Little Bean and then say later a pear. You mentioned the times you haven't felt yourself. I soooo remember that. I was afraid my thinking and brain would never be the same. I was so relieved when it returned immediately after birth. I carried non-cancerous tumors with both babies, so at three months I was huge, never again a size 4. Twins ran in both families so were a wish (do it all one time) and an initial doctor thought until ultrasound. I kept trying to fit through spaces that I had typically been able to navigate (racks in clothing stores, etc.) that no longer worked. That may come much later for you. I did renovate a 1920s 4 square home with full time construction help doing so with a toddler. Now is the best time for you to finish the cottage with help I would say. At the same time, caution in what you undertake and shorter personal workdays with stopping, resting as body tells you. You and Romeo will know exactly what is required. It becomes intuitive. I had read everything about taking care of babies and parenting and then wondered why. It was a knowing that just came. We had a 1,100 square foot two story master suite made from two bedrooms and the attic, transformed a garage into a family room, added a deck, and updated the rest including refinishing floors. It can be done, but at this point in life there would be places I would push less than I did and try to find better support. All the things and then some in 2024 for you, Romeo, Little Bean, and family. Congratulations.🎉❤❤❤❤

I can’t wait to see you become a mother. You are amazing and so full of love, that baby is lucky to have you. Don’t ever feel guilty or bad about not having a great time during the pregnancy or during the postpartum period, it’s hard! But the love you have with that baby outweighs it all. I just had my first in February (who is also named MaCenna) and it has been the most transformational experience of my life. I’m so excited for you. Congrats congrats congrats ❤️

I am so very happy for you and Romeo! What you can do right now already for you and the baby is get yourself a stuffed animal with a music box in it with a melody you like and give yourself the time to lay down with that boy on your belly at the same time every day and listen to yourself, your body and your baby. Baby will connect the melody with the good and cozy times in the belly and it will calm down when upset and it hears the melody. It totally worked with my kids. With my first kid, I forgot to lay down one day and she reminded me at that certain time to kicking real hard in my belly. These little angels know and feel. ❤

Something that has changed my mindset is something my therapist and I call “scheduled do nothing days” which are a scheduled day a month where I unplugged and do nothing on my to do list and only do things that bring me joy and are things that aren’t traditionally productive ie reading books, naps on the couch, enjoying my morning coffee! Truly has changed my life, I had to start scheduling it otherwise it wasn’t getting done, and my body was forcing me to rest when I didn’t want to. Hope this helps somebody!
