+Ruth Kavanagh Yep, calorie counting is such bullshit. E.g, if you can only have a certain amount of calories per day, then that means you could just eat as many chocolate bars/junk food as it takes to hit that calorie goal, right? But your body wouldn't be internally healthy. Nutrition and calories should always be seen as two very different things, that don't necessarily go hand in hand.

+Areiniah MLS I think you are being a bit inconsiderate and dismissive. Not everyone knows as much about nutrition as you do. Calorie counting is reasonably effective, and it is simple to use for everyone who need to lose some weight.

Yummy breakfast, but will definitely take more than 3 mins. Especially with cleaning up :) P.S.: Despite ripe bananas having more sugar, I would still prefer them over the greener variety, since they are easier to digest and the sugar is natural, thus easy to digest.

I would argue the point about bananas.. More sugar when ripened further, indeed, but also studies have shown there to be considerably more antioxidants as well. So, that makes the decision a little more complicated.. This is similar to my everyday breakfast, which includes a half pint of blueberries (usually organic but WILD! now because of summer and Ontario!), raw almonds crushed in a pestle and mortar, an organic mixed nut and honey granola cluster cereal and topped with organic cinnamon. Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for this!

Many years ago I heard (as a tourist) in Scotland that their morning oats-porridge is salted, in contrast to England - where they put sugar in it (they were very proud with the salting-way). It seems to me I have a lot to catch with modern British food, and I think I'll be happy to fill the (political/gastronomical/ historical... :) gap with your toasted oats, mango, etc. Thanks for uploading.

Gosh man. A banana is ready to eat when it's speckled. It's full of starch when it's green, which is the same amount of calories but way harder to digest, casusing constipation and (by the way) more likely to be stored as bodyfat. There you go - green banana....pfff
@nbs90
@nbs90 9 жыл бұрын
+Koobee Tee "more likely to be stored as bodyfat" nope, nothing is more likely to be stored as bodyfat. It all depends on how much energy you use, not what you eat -.-

+Koobee Tee THANK YOU!! I was yelling at my screen!! Since when is any fruit best to eat when it's unripe?!! Who is this nutritionist?!!!! Come on, Jamie! It is soo terrible for digestion. You gut will hate you for attempting that green banana, not to mention that furry bits (very technical) on your tongue ughhh! Speckled and almost mushy is when bananas are at their best.

I know you guys mean well, but all of these "nutrition facts" are so random, I don't know why you're constantly trying to push them out. I mean, how is it usable for the average viewer/consumer? Just because you eat blueberries, it doesn't mean you won't get cancer. And you have to eat a ton of bananas to gain any sort of weight from them, it can hardly be regarded as an issue. I wish you would ask how all of this is useful, rather then randomly just bursting it out. Because all it really seems to do is confuse people, which is evident by the comments.

it's a shame that the guy who used to be the 'naked chef' who didn't care much for all the bullshit around cooking, Mr. "no way; it's not me, it's the food", is focusing more and more on food presentation, self-promotion and branding and 'super' food this and that... I'd rather watch some more of 'Jamie at Home', and the old 'Naked Chef' episodes that this bullocks about 'super' foods... Please Mr. Oliver, go back to the basics...

@ThisIsMyFullName
@ThisIsMyFullName 9 жыл бұрын
***** Well that's my point. I don't think it makes people eat healthier food, because I don't think they will care about this information. But more importantly, if you are overweight, it doesn't matter that you decrease your chance of getting cancer by eating blueberries. It just matters that you eat any fruit. I can't imagine anyone standing at their vegetable market thinking: "Should I get some strawberries or some blueberries? I better go with the blueberries, because they prevent me from getting cancer." It's just silly to think that. There's a difference between making people conscious, and making people confused. It's not just about the message you're trying to convey, it's also about how you deliver it. Are you really making people more conscious about what they eat, or are you just scaring them away?

Not crazy about the un-ripe banana. I'd say just eat 1/2 if you want to reduce the sugar content. Plenty there in the mango, blueberries & yogurt. This looks good, except that I was surprised the oats were only toasted & not cooked. This all seems hard to digest, to me. Nope. don't think it's for me. I have cooked oatmeal & blueberries most days.

I have not double-checked thus but I am pretty sure the caloric content in a ripe and unripe banana is the same. True, the starch is broken down to smaller saccharides as it ripens, but the caloric content should stay the same. Therefore, the unripe banana is not less fattening

Without looking I can tell you a medium size banana - about 120g has around 27 carbs and 14 grams of sugar. That's a lot of sugar considering how much we are supposed to get in a day is quiet low to begin with. Most people go over on their sugar in the blink of an eye. The starch in a green banana is a resistant starch which acts a lot like fiber . Tid bit: Did you know too much fiber is actually not a good thing, too much fiber can causes back up (there is science behind what is happening, but I'm trying to go to sleep soon). Our bodies work as functional wholes. We have bacteria in our stomachs that eat and discard fibers and certain starches. Please attempt to research things before you comment with hate, people. Common misconceptions can be made via the Internet, which is currently happening in this comment section.

Unripe bananas are hard to digest. I ate 30 ripe bananas a day, no meat, no dairy, no eggs, I list 12kgs in 4months. Ripe bananas are extremely healthy. Our cells in our bodies run off glucose. I've stopped eating all of those bananas because I've moved away and its hard to get them ripe. So I've put on 6kgs. I feel like absolute shit. But I'm still vegan.

Everyone is pointing out how ripe bananas are better for digestion, which is true. However, coconuts are good for that as well. In that sense maybe it evens out for this particular recipe.

Un ripened bananas can actually cause constipation! At least that's have I've learnt. Natural sugars in fruit are great for us anyways. It's nothing like eating sugary candy etc.
