I know I am not the target audience for this luxorious monster, but biggest problem for me is, when the 57 and 62 were out, it was a multilevel comfort rise when you sat in it from f.e. MB 210 E class, it was like stepping into another world, you could literally feel like top of the food chain. Now when I sit in good packed GLC or GLE or in this case GLS, all of it feels aboslutely the same inside :(

Yeah. It first glance to me looked like something somebody slapped together with stuff from amazon. It doesnt have a finished of cohesive look. Edit: One thing I remember being said but cannot remember who said is in something luxurious, nothing stands on its own. Everything works with everything else. One part missing or changed affects everything else. If there if something excessively stands out or doesnt fit with what is around it? Then it is not luxurious, it is gaudy and pretentious.

Like the S class, these may appear like value next to Bentley or RR, but they also compete with themselves. Fully option a 580 for almost 1/2 the money, then those really look like the value play.

Tyler, I was staying with my mother in Houston (I'm from California) after having had a severe motorcycle accident when I was 17. I bought a Ford LTD with the Cleveland 351 P.I. engine and proceeded to drive back to California with a full leg cast on my right leg slung up on the front seat, driving with my left foot. You don't realize how big Texas is until you have to drive across it! I had to pull over and try and get some sleep, unfortunately it was over 100 degrees out and all I could do was nap a little and sweat. I do have to say driving through New Mexico I saw the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen. Basically, you're not the only person sleeping in their car in Texas!

Most people who drive these things lease them. And why not? If you do not exceed the mileage or damage the thing it's cheaper in the short term than ownership. Even if that bouncy suspension takes a dump before the lease is up it's not your problem anyway.

When I was rowing in high school, my club would rent vans and at stop lights everyone in the van would have fun by rocking back and forth in unison, which caused a very similar effect to the recovery mode of that Maybach.

I have to say I saw a Kia Telluride at the grocery store yesterday and if these two SUVs where put side by side with no badges. I would have said the Kia was the more costly of the two. This kind of looks like a cross between a Buick and Lincoln.

Cars how a days have more in them that isn’t necessary than necessary. My uncle was shopping for a new car when his 2014 Audi a7 started having electrical problems and was looking at a new a7 and he was scared away with even more worries of electrical problems and I don’t blame him. New cars now a days will have 50 percent of their “gadgets” broken in the next 10 years guaranteed. He settled with a 22 Acura MDX instead because it didn’t have so many things he felt to go heywire.

GLS - It's a very fine vehicle, but nothing has the sense of occasion that the first modern Maybachs accomplished. In terms of practicality, the GLS is way ahead but I'd still rather have a new S-Class.

having gotten up-close with the mayback interiors a few times, the price is right but MB is still tries to cheap out on places they think you wouldn't notice. Namely the plastics in the interior, and the quality of the plastics HIGHLY vary. Still not as nice as the cullinan but for the money its a better value

You can’t really compare newer generations of Maybach to the 57 and 62. Those were dedicated platforms and Mercedes over engineered them. The new ones are just trim packages.

Front end just doesn't look good at any price and certainly not for $200k. Not a fan of the 2 tone paint job on suvs either. It works with a few cars, but not this. I would go for the AMG over this every time

The paint was the best part. Usually MB paint is good. Don't know about $18,000 good. These more money than brain buyers always seem to want some ridiculous garish grill like Audi and Lexus. It would appear to be a compensation issue combined with no taste.

in europe german cars are what japanese cars are in the states, and it's not uncommon to see volkwagens and mercs and others with over 150k-200k miles for sale it appears that in north america people just done take as much care of their cars as the owner's manual suggests, hence this reputation that only exists in north america german cars are way more refined than japanese cars I drove a new toyota land cruiser few months ago, the diesel engine on it is louder than a VW van... but, each to their own let us enjoy all cars before everything becomes souless boring rebadged electric with all of them using the same washing machine motors

I have friends that could not keep tires on their S class Mercedes especially the rear. The dealership could not find a problem but it kept eating up tires within 15,000 miles. Especially the rear tires would wear out first no matter how many times the alignment was checked. Also the car was never in an accident. Odd that such an expensive piece of German engineering would eat up tires so quickly! 😎

It’s not a re-badged GLS or a Maybach on the GLS platform, it literally is a GLS. It still has the GLS 600 badges on the back and is listed as a Mercedes GLS on the window sticker. Maybach is essentially just a series of expensive options as shown on the window sticker.
