Two superb run throughs Richard. So you are only missing the Phobia vinyl for complete Kinks studio albums. You have many more Kinks comps than me. Excellent Bee Gees collection. Mike

Cheers Mike, although Phobia is nowhere bad as I used to think, I'm not prepared to pay over the odds for it, even the recent US RSD issue.

@@CookieMusic43 yes, I quite like it Richard, but it’s a victim of the cd age……far too long.

Hi Richard!!! cool episode and two big bands here..... never been a big Kinks fan, don't know their discography at all, just a couple of their big songs and that would be all. The first song i think i ever heard was of course the cover Van Halen did of "You Really Got me" and yes it's awesome...... despite of what R Davies says about it, lol..... The Bee Gees on the other side always to me will be a "Disco Band", it's cool to know they had a previous career and it seems to be a much better one too. cheers and be well

as good as the Kinks are, they never were a full retail purchase for me, but I have Village Green downloaded from a library CD. They have some great songs....

Their run of albums from 1966 to 1971 is top notch!

Hi Richard, some great Bee Gees albums there, great stuff. TBH im not a big fan of The Kinks early r+b songs nowadays (64-65) much prefer their sound when they really developed their own sound and the songwriting became more 'quintessentially english'. - Lloyd

Hi Lloyd, I do think there are quite a few gems that came out in those early Australian years.

@@CookieMusic43 Hi Richard, i agree wholeheartedly. incredible trio of writers and vocalists IMO. their singles catalogue stands up well against anyone including lennon/mccartney and benny/bjorn for sure - Lloyd

My parents bought a large radiogram in about 1970; they bought about 5 records too, one of them a kinks greatest hits, one Elvis, nana Mouscouri , Glen Campbell and one other. THEY NEVER BOUGHT ANOTHER ALBUM EVER AGAIN 😂

My parents more or less did the same in the late 60's and apart from a few classical albums which were bought by mum the only two I can remember were by The Seekers and The Bachelors

Great video as always, Richard! OK, I have relistened to both "Living Eyes" and "ESP" in the past couple of weeks....and while the former has come up a couple of notches - not enough to REALLY jump out, but I definitely liked it better now than I did the last time I listened to it, and I have always LOVED the title track - I still maintain that it's definitely a BIIIIIG step down from "Spirits Having Flown". And I still think "ESP" Is one of their best. But the cool thing about music is that personal taste plays a big key in what you like and don't like, and I can see why some people, like yourself, might not like certain tracks, even though I think they're brilliant. Totally cool with me. And "Now Voyager" - it's not up to late 70's Bee Gees standards either - it's not great but it's not terrible by any means. Surprised you don't have any of Robin's solo albums other than "Robin's Reign", which I've never heard in it's entirety, which I need to do. I don't have them either, but did love his singles from the 80s, particularly "Juliet" and "Boys Do Fall In Love", both of which I think should have been bigger than they were - "Juliet" missed the top 40 completely, and "Boys" just barely got in there, and they're both great. Looking forward to Beach Boys and Byrds stuff on Tuesday! HAve a great weekend! And thanks so much for the shoutout and link! 🙂

Thanks again for the great comment TC. I do have Robin's How Old Are You? (Juliet is fabulous!) and Magnet on CD. The former would be my favourite of his solo albums that I have heard. There is one Barry Gibb solo song that I adore, My Eternal Love. It is featured on the excellent Takes From the Brothers Gibb CD box set. It may have originally featured on a soundtrack, I'm not sure. Hope there is a Kirkham Report tonight. It was badly missed last week. Cheers - Richard

Many years ago i bought a Bee Gees comp. trying to get in to them. Jive Talkin' was as far as i got, i just couldn't stand their disco stuff. Ruined it for me. I really did like their last(?) hit This Is Where I Came In(?). Really unexpected highlight. I've been waiting for Kinks Misfits to be reissued on vinyl. I wonder do i have to wait a few years for it to reach 50th anniversary? Pasi
