Thank you GM Smirnov! Question: 9:53 if White plays d5, is it effective for Black to play Nce7, Ng6, and Nf6? Just like you taught in Nimzowitsch Kennedy-Linksspringer variation, but in this situation Black has previously played h6

At a low level, nobody will play the d4 pawn break so early in the game. At a higher level, they will hardly fall into these traps. So it's very interesting but not very effective. I still prefer your Rousseau Gambit because very few people below 1800 elo will refute it with the counter gambit and if they sometimes do -1 is not dead lost.

tried that multiple times in online games around 1000. Like 9 of 10 white players play 3. Bb5 instead of Bc3, pinning the knight on c6. Trying to chase the bishop away in most games they simply exchange bishop for the knight and the whole plan is ruined.
@jacobbrennan4704
@jacobbrennan4704 Ай бұрын
Then if they take the pawn you can play queen d4 double attack. You can also play f5 against 3. Bb5. It’s a superior version of the rousseau
@Victor-ji1rz
@Victor-ji1rz Ай бұрын
Bb5 is called the ruy Lopez, or spanish. Its a different opening so yeah you will need to learn different lines against it. This line Bc4 is called the Italian
@cmdr-aurus-rex
@cmdr-aurus-rex Ай бұрын
@@Victor-ji1rz yea sure, but what I wanted to point out, that on low level, where it might be effective, not many people play the italian line. Its very rare, and on higher levels they probably know how to deal with that. So I am mostly questioning the practicability of this gambit, not many fall into that trap.
@wiljaxon1958
@wiljaxon1958 Ай бұрын
c3 is a black square. b5 is a white square. So Bc3 on move 3 isn't possible for the white bishop.
@AhOhITzXray
@AhOhITzXray Ай бұрын
You’ll have to learn multiple lines anyway. What level you’re at doesn’t actually matter for improvement.

10:38 problem is that I am also one of those people who would blunder if I don't have any way to attack. And with that close position I am probably going to "accidently" blunder a knight or a bishop just to try to open up the position.

Another instructive example in how trading material for time and devlopement can be a good strategy in the opening. If I'm white I'm playing h3 after Bg4 and if Bh4 then Bg5. If Bxf3 Qxf3 Ne5 Qb3 I'm still happy as white. Don't gran pawns that let black develop a piece.

Ok i saw many videos about openings, golden rules, dos and don’ts, etc. My conclusion is: the best move is the one that push my plan forward and stop opponent’s plan at the same time. If i can do it at each move, i almost always win. Am i right?
@zubrrr
@zubrrr Ай бұрын
Generally speaking yes. But the key word is "if". Sometimes there is just no such move and you have to choose between pushing your plan or prevent some opponent's one. Sometimes such move exists but has drawbacks: slows down your plan comparing with a strictly attacking move, for example.

As soon as Black plays Qe7, if I were White I would play Re1. I'm not even 1400 but this move seems the most obvious. It puts pressure on Black's Queen with a potential pin in front of the King, so Black should castle asap. Also his Queen is now threatened by White's Rook, so the tempo seems to favor White? How would you counter Re1?
