W gave up on corn and switched the planter back to beans for our last 400 acres. We fixed a leaky hydraulic hose on the sprayer and tried out our new Seed Clean Out Shoot from Sloan Express. I also planted my first piece of No-till.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

I’m a farmer from Northern England we farm mainly Barley and Oats and we hold some sheep and cows, I’m always interested in how farmers around the the world operate. I found your channel about a year ago now and I find it fascinating on the differences between how you operate in Minnesota and how we operate. I just want to thank you for sharing what you do on your farm and sharing your life with us.

We use a 1960’s era aqua coloured bathtub and a five gallon pail as our seed transfer system. It has very few moving parts and one man can fill a twelve row planter with three bushel hoppers in about 10 minutes. The tub is made of a heavy gauge and will last for many years to come. It gives the added bonus of offering a structured exercise regime with repetitions about every thirty acres or about two hours. Fantastic!

Just picked 170 bu/ac no-till corn here in Kansas. My dad's disks have more "barn dust" on them then "field dust", I'm a big fan of no-till, saves a ton of time and fuel in addition to putting down liquid 9-24 and 32-0 with the planter.

@farmerfrance4397
@farmerfrance4397 5 жыл бұрын
Pro tip: forego the seed tender all together unless you have individual seed bins. Put forks on a front end loader tractor and hang the entire box over the seed tank. 50 units moved in 10 seconds. I show up with a flat bed semi carrying a loader tractor, at least 4 boxes, and a vehicle with a built in tow bar. Show up, puke everything out and head for the fertilizer truck (which I hook the vehicle to).

Little advice when you are playing(planting ) in the mud carry a cordless impact wrench and a 15/16 socket with you and zip off that gauge wheel and even a seed disk to clean out the mud. Saves your knuckles and your hands from being pinched and it goes faster.

A hot air gun will soften label adhesive so that it peels off cleanly. We used to hot-water bottles to get the labels off floppy disks, so I'm guessing 80 to 90°C (26 to 32°F) does the trick. That means keeping a hot air gun a good six inches from the part to avoid damaging it.

I’ve planted with pink seed and green seed, but most recently planted brownish/purple for a neighbor wanting to get their corn in. I don’t know what that company was thinking; probably the hardest seed to try to find. Great to see you guys out in the field. Just finished my acres last night in Michigan. Also, we were done with planting a month or so ago, but the 1 wet field was planted the other day, the field in front of our house was wet enough that the fertilize truck from CO-OP got stuck, and a week later, they buried a sprayer to the middle of the rim....... that was a show it took 3 tractors to get it out

Mud story of my life this year. I get to plant all the marginal field while the 36 row planter stays on all the good fields. I no tilled about 2800 acres this year. We have one customer that does only no till. I definitely get a work out moving row cleaners up and down on a 24 row. Probably to picky but having them in the right spot makes getting the seed in the right depth. Sure wish had the precision clean sweep make moving row cleans way easier.

I had my planter all balled up with mud this spring in no till, the soil doesn’t dry out as fast if its not tilled, so I’m thinking seriously about putting on mud smith gauge wheels on but they probably have their limits too. This has been the wettest planting season I’ve seen. Been farming since 1977. Just found your channel and subscribed!

Part of no-til is cover crops, the root create porosity to drain water, the root and above ground debris helps float equipment. Used to do a lot of septic systems, could drive over sod with dump trucks seven times (almost exactly 7 X) mostly built roads in. It’s amazing what sod will hold up on a limited basis.

'Deere hunting' Priceless LOL. I live in New Zealand and was not familiar with North America accents, but I have been picking up on how the more northern folk say words like 'out' as more of an 'oot'. In fact I thought it was a Canadian thing, but Minnesota is way up there. I was born in the UK and have lived in New Zealand since 2004. When I got here I thought all Kiwis sounded much the same, and while we have far less obvious regional accents here than in the UK - Welsh, Scouse, Geordie, Brummie, Cockney etc. - after 15 plus years I can now tell where abouts in the country people come from. It's interesting, and I wonder what drives those regional variations.

As always i enjoy watching these videos. I enjoy learning about farming, even though this is just the tip of what’s really involved. I’m no farmer lol I’m a captain running inland push boats on he east coast. Keep up the good work and stay safe!!
