Went to a Panerai boutique a few years ago. I had just gotten into watches and was browsing as many local shops as I could, although the vast majority of the salesmen didn’t pay me any attention, a salesman at the Panerai store stopped me and my friend and asked us if we knew the story of Panerai. He proceeded to explain the nautical history and relationship with the fascist submarine crews that TGV described. Although I knew I didn’t have the wrist for it, I knew I would one day own a Panerai. Still working towards that goal, but just goes to show you how important those small acknowledgments are.

I don't have the wrist for it and yet I wear my Pam 372 with pride. I find it funny how "watch lovers" find history important but then complain about historically correct sizes. Panerai is like non other. You'll love it.

@@wkskdnam Stories are the difference in connecting and not, to the product or even to a person. A good story is important because otherwise it is not logical to purchase a watch over $15 for a cheap quartz watch that is more accurate than any mechanical watch. A logical choice to go from point A to B and back a million times is a Toyota corolla or Prius, but I would rather have a Ferrari 250GTO with the barking V12. But if you want to go for the Prius, more power to you.

Wearing a Panerai is a paradox. While its immense size is eye catching, the absolute simplicity of the watch does not scream opulence or flamboyance but rather a sense of history, a metaphor to its birthplace Firenze. I absolutely love it.

What a dog. That bulbous crown assembly totally superfluous. A year of this you will be suffering from design fatigue, and looking to sell. And if you want a huge watch why not just get an Invicta? 👎👎👎🤡 Poor taste.

Panerai is one of the few brands I absolutely love, but can’t seem to connect with in-person. I have a similar relationship to Cartier: a deep admiration and appreciation, but also a bittersweet acceptance that I’m not the right person to pull off those watches. That’s one of my greatest lessons in this hobby. You don’t have to own everything you love, and you can enjoy watches without wearing them. Sometimes it’s just not meant to be.

Congrats! I'm a big fan of Panerai, it was the first real "luxury" watch I owned... AWESOME! Many of the actors who wear watches in movies do so because they are paid, in all of the cases mentioned in this video the actors wore them because they love Panerai not for sponsorship... Congrats again and enjoy in good health!

Love a Panerai! I have owned several over the years. I recommend the titanium cases as they’re significantly lighter and a bit less blingy than the full polished stainless cases. The customer experience is also great, the staff in the Bond St boutique are always welcoming, a total contrast to most Rolex dealers. There will always be space in my collection for a Luminor.

Bought my first Panerai a couple of years ago, a new Luminor Marina, thoroughly amazed by how much i've come to love it. Build quality is great and it feels far more special on the wrist than i was expecting. I choose it over my other watches (Cartier Santos and an Omega Speedmaster) most of the time. It just feels... good :)

Always loved Panerai. So far, I have had the pleasure of owning three of them. I recently gifted my wife with my 44mm PAM 1312 on a shinny orange rubber strap - wow! She has a small wrist but, for some reason, it looks fantastic on her! Watches have never been an investment for me. I always loved them since I was 5 and asked my dad to buy me a Casio for birthday. I come from a humble upbringing so even a simple Casio meant some level of effort for the family. Now, I’m a bit better off, but still only able to buy one luxury piece of moderate price every 5 to 8 years. It is for the pleasure of it. It is for watching TGV videos wearing a nice piece on my wrist. It is for the love of craftsmanship, attention to detail and the constant human pursuit of perfection. Not for boasting, not for making money. Keep up the fantastic work TGV!

TGV I am pleased to see Panerai featured in your channel. I own the exact same PAM0048 and have owned it for over 12 years, having bought it at the New York boutique. I cannot part with my Panerai its an icon and even if it may be “big” its a stament piece and a very rugged and at the same time handsome watch. All you need is to change straps to rubber, leather, alligator. And you completely change the vibe of the watch.I highly recommend it, but if I were to buy another one, it would be the the 8 day manual wind in Titanium with the sandwich dial it is INCREDIBLE. Cheers!

Nice purchase. I am lucky enough too have 3 Panerai in my collection, all time favourite brand. My latest is the The Quaranta Black dial. A beautiful piece. I just can’t fathom this obsession with the water resistance, I am a former combat diver and can’t ever recall going to 300m. 100m is more than enough, stand next to a 100m building and look up, deep enough. And as we only dive with computers now, it’s an obsolete technology. Enjoy the watch 👍

Well, I recently purchased the Due model, in 42mm, and I am really loving it! Yes, it doesn't have the water proofing and I get that many Paneristi hate that, but, it fits under a shirt sleeve and looks beautiful in a suit or tux. And that's why I bought it, for formal wear. Although with the right strap, it looks quite sporting as well. I think this opens up a new world of customers for the brand that might never have looked at them. We'll see how it all pans out.

I’ve been a watch fanatic for as long as I can remember, bought and sold most of the brands you would and expect, Rolex, Omega, Tag, Brightling, etc you get the picture. But one watch I have that I will never sell. In 2009 I purchased a Panerai Luminor Marina (PAM00164 ) with brown Alligator strap. I love the watch so much and even today all these years later I still wear it. For a good 10 years I wore it as an everyday watch, today it could do with a new strap but apart from that it looks great.

Last October, my wife and I spent a week in Paris prior to a river cruise. She wanted to do some shopping so we went to Galleries Lafayette. I got to spend the entire 6 hours in the watch shops on the first floor. And after looking at most all of the major brands and their current offerings, I bought a new Panerai 1335 , a blue “Origin” Radiomir. And I have enjoyed it. I also have been frequently in Firenze and usually rent a room on Via Guicciarideni. So to finally find my Panerai was a big thrill. Mine is a recently released 45mm that rides well on my 8 inch wrist. It is unique and seldom seen in my part of the states. So- I’m glad you are a Firenzephile, and you have your Panerai. Many thanks.

My most recent aquisition is a PAM00736 (2017). Gorgeous watch that had been on my radar for a while, and I got it at a very acceptable price. I don't mind admitting, I love that I can pull off a 47mm man-sized Panerai. I have 8-inch/20cm wrists. 39mm and 40mm watches all look small on me. Even the 41mm new Sub, which I bought because I just wanted that icon, is just a bit small. No fear of that with my Panerai!

Bought the PAM647 Luminor Due! Maligned for its weak water resistance, however, it has exactly all the Panerai DNA I wanted on a thinner case, sandwich dial, all the cardinal numbers with that gorgeous micro rotor movement. Oh well, I guess it will never see water, but the point is to get into the custom straps. Waited for a used one and paid under 6K for a minty specimen. No regrets! Good time to buy preowned. Glad to see TGV's appreciation and comfort in the classic PAM048.

That 2 minute intro did more for Panerai marketing than their team in the last 5 years. Suuper high production on that video. After spending a long time trying different Panerai's I came to the conclusion that for me the traditional Radiomir models with wire lugs in size 42 are the absolute cream of the crop. Much thinner than the 40mm models and super elegant. Favourite reference is the PAM 337. If you dislike the wire lugs than PAM512 is good too. I agree on the smaller submersible. Let's just hope they can keep it thin.

Not tiny but definitely too small for that beast. I wanted as many of the Quirky Panerai things as I could get on 1 watch: I definitely wanted that unique crown, manual wind, sandwich dial and an exhibition case back if possible, I went with a PAM000112, a 44mm. I have a Sinn U1 which I believe is also a 44, but a Panerai 44 is different. The 40mm you have I believe would be the right size for anyone not named Arnold.

Then I found the PERFECT one for me. the 1940 case 512 manual wind. Thin. 42mm. Perfecto. Visited Florence in October of 22 and bought a strap for it to remember the trip. Super nice guys by the Duomo and they'd have chatted all day. Enjoy!

I also have the 0048! Much more wearable on small wrists. Less OEM strap options though, but one of my faves all the same

I keep flirting with the idea of a Radiomir as the wire lug aesthetic really gives me the throwback vibes. Great video as always - you never disappoint with both passion and facts intertwined in equal measure.

Let's go! My PAM753 has been my everyday watch for over a year now, it wears smaller than its 45mm, and it's just the most comfortable watch to wear for me personally, so it has been hard to put anything else on. Not too sure if i've earned the bones in the community of Paneristi but welcome nonetheless.👍🏼

Bought my Panerai in Hong Kong in 2011. Had it serviced once since then. It’s my absolute favorite with my James Bond Omega Seamaster not far behind.

In regards to how it looks on your wrist, this is exactly what the Helson Stingray 47 looks on my wrist. It’s big, but I’ve gotten used to it. Normally I wouldn’t wear a 47mm watch, but for the Helson I’m making an exception because it has a bronze case and a pocket watch movement in it and hand winding it is amazing. The sound it makes is nothing a wristwatch movement could ever produce because of the reduced mass of it. I love that watch!

Just received my first Helson, a Shark Diver. Incredible watch for the money but the only thing I dislike is the huge, long and poorly integrated clasp with too few micro adjusts for me to get a decent fit.

Ahh yes, I’d been waiting for the Urban Gentry to put out another great video. This time on a an unexpected but well received brand like Panerai! Makes me want one simply because they haven’t changed their look much like Cartier. I was surprised I didn’t see you in Teddy’s most warn wrist watches for KZbinrs. I know he had to of asked you!

I sold a few Panerais working for a retailer that carried various grey market luxury sport watches back when they were super trendy. While I didn't hate them, I also did not get the hype. Recently, I've seen a few of these 40mm Luminors on peoples' wrists and was amazed at how much I liked the profile. My main objection was actually the crown guard vs the usual screw down crown, which felt gimmicky to me. Your explanation makes total sense though (education on the product wasn't available at my employer, we sold on the price point and our return policy alone). And on you sir, I have to say it's a class watch. I still won't be buying one since I'm the extra weird self proclaimed "watch guy" who strongly prefers quartz to mechanical, but I think it looks great on you. If we ever meet and you are wearing it, I'll be sure to give a compliment. It looks really cool, the proportions are fantastic imo, and it's the least vexing small second watch I've seen (another quirk of mine is that I hate small seconds). Cheers. I agree that watch is pure ckass.

Been low key looking for one for a while. As someone who goes against the norms, it's completely contrarian to what most watch people are seeking right now, and thats why I love it. Hoping you don't make the used market suddenly blow up 🤫

I bought a Panerai 104 just over 5 years ago. It was a brand I've always wanted to own. My grandfather was a Carabinieri in and around Naples before he immigrated to Canada. I know they were never issued to Carabinieri, but being so close to the Amalfi Coast, I would have hoped he came in contact with some of the Marina Militare wearing their Radiomirs. Congrats on the purchase. It looks great on you!

Great designed and such iconic looking watches. Not for everyone probably due to the size. It would be a big challenge for them to make a 38 mm but just think how many they would sell. Great videos as usual and happy new year

I recently bought the PAM1157 and put it on a white Panerai rubber strap. I never thought that I would ever buy a Panerai. It is such a different look on the wrist and I can't take it off. Utilitarian, iconic and unusual/uncommon. The contrast is so overwhelming when I switch to another watch. I just love this watch. The Luminor is a one trick pony but boy does it make a statement in my opinion. Do yourself a favor. Go to a dealer and try one on because it really surprised me having it on my wrist.
