We had many recommendations to cover this movie, so we wanted to tackle it during one of our one-off films. My friend Matt watches Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse for the very first time. It was also one of the few animated films he's ever seen.
Next week is Venom!

Miles actually has 12fps during the movie, but when he truly becomes spiderman (at the leap of faith scene) he gets 24 frames like the other "experienced" Spiderman. Really cool detail!
@pixelhouse18
@pixelhouse18 3 жыл бұрын
To add to that, the real spiderman moves at 24frames even in scenes where they both are in the picture, Miles always moved at 12fps and the real spiderman at 24fps, they did this on purpose so you could "feel/see" that Miles was still finding his inner spiderman and was still struggling. Only when the leap of faith scene started you see Miles at his true potential(thus 24fps), signifying he has truly mastered being spiderman.

The frame rate issues ruined the film for me, I could see it constantly and my eyes just ached. It didn't even feel like just one character, it felt like everything was frame skipping in some way.

@Tyler Ford The comment thread literally tells you what the issue is, Miles was animated at 12 fps which was awful to me. It gave an effect on top of that of making seem like the rest of the animation was odd because how clearly I could see it. It meant a large chunk of the film was wasted for me. Some people are more sensitive to noticing these kinds of things.

Animation movies are able to do so much more than a live action movie. The aren’t limited by any real life restrictions and can go as far as they want. Animation isnt a genre it’s an art form. They aren’t just pointless unnecessary garbage movie with terrible jokes for children but instead can be enjoyed by anyone cause inevitably they are telling a story just like a live action film. It wasn’t an effect Kirby used. It was how the books where printed back in the day. From the 50-70’s in order to save money, comics where printed using a process called the Ben Day process. A printing technique named after the illustrator who invented it. Feel free to explore more on you’re own.

Here is a suggestion: how about make predictions about what you think Matt will think about the film, without him in the room. Telling him how great you think the movie is, or what you hope he thinks about it, is kind of a spoiler and inadvertently sets his expectations which can rarely, if ever be met. Let him go in completely clueless, his reaction will be more genuine. Also, after the film, he can find out what everyone thought he was gonna think about it, and see who came the closest to predicting the most accurately. Love the channel, this is not a gripe, merely a suggestion.

Eh, I compare the first TASM to Mega Man X3- it had some really solid ideas, ideas which would have made it phenomenal, but there was a fundamentally-misguided element to it. I’ll respect it for what it wanted to be, but I won’t deny that in its current state it could never truly become what it wanted to. Then the second movie just kind of went off the deep end

Sully I know, it takes a lot of commitment, but If a show deserves a commitment like this it is ATLA. There is a reason why the movie animation is like this. You have 5 different universes colliding with one. That is why it glitches like that. The movie is showing the effects so many universe colluding on the main one is happening. Maybe they over did it but I did not mind it and it made sense to me why they did it like that.

I think Matt was able to appreciate this much more as a superhero film only because he went through the MCU first, so I wonder if his score would be higher if he also had more of an introduction to animated movies beforehand. Goes to show that the timing in which we see movies in our lives and our experiences up to that point can change our perspective so much

Well, I know the chorus of course. But I certainly don't know the whole lyrics. And I'm not a liar. Just very far from the demographic when it showed, and without any family with young peeps close by. I did see the movie once, when it was on Netflix, just to see what the fuss whas about. I mean, I'm almost 65, what do you want from me? I know the lyrics to Pink Floyd's "Time" (from the album "The Dark Side of The Moon") better. Much better. Way more than 3 words repeated in various tones and lengths a few times. Hugs from Sweden ;-)

You guys nailed it! Everyone was on point for this one! It's an amazing movie that chokes me up every time! Very happy that it hit Matt's sweet spot! Holden: "The Spider-Man the world needs now." Powerful statement. Jeremy: "Best realization of being a hero." Yes, sir! "Cognitive dissonance!" Break out the big words! I love it. Pastor: "It reminds me of home. This is what happened to me." I'm a big city boy, too, Ulysses. Matt: "It made me cry twice!" "Bye-Gone Gym Moment-Approved!" The hair on the back of the neck stands up and the lump in the throat swells when scruffy Pete realizes he's been stalling and Miles is gonna be okay. Jenna: Normally ahead of the curve, today she played catch-up but at least she liked the Spider-Gang! Lol. Fantastic Miles Morales cinematic debut! Comic accurate! Introduces the Marvel multiverse to audiences! Nic Cage OWNED Spider-Noir!

I would be curious to see Matt's reaction to 'A Silent Voice'. While it is an anime film, it is very character driven and explores some pretty interesting topics (e.g., bullying, social anxiety, suicide). Knowing Matt's background, it would be very interesting to see his thoughts on a movie like that. While many people see animation as being things for kids, it really isn't. Rather, it is simply another medium through which stories can be told.

Miles finally becoming Spider-Man is possibly my favorite moment of any movie ever. That leap of faith gets me every. single. time. The visual of the whole scene, with that awesome song/orchestra arrangement = perfection. Best moment from any animation ever: that inverse shot of him rising as he’s falling towards the city. Genius! And I loved, immediately after that, the three progressive comic frame inserts. Amazing visual representation of confidence. Everything about this scene is so perfect to me. The glass shattering from fear as he pushes away from the building; the detail of how he moves as he’s running down the street between cars; the squeak of his sneakers against the windows of the office building; the juxtaposition of exhilaration going up beside the skyscraper to his falling fearfully much earlier in the movie. And, at the end, he finally gets his comic book.
