So the villian’s name is Moff Gideon. The reason the “Dark-Saber” is so important is because is because way back in the old Republic days, before the Mandalorians and the Jedi were at war, there was a man named Tarre Vizsla who was the first Mandalorian ever to be inducted into the Jedi order. He created the dark-saber. It was kept in the Jedi temple after Tate’s passing, until the Vizsla people stole it back during the fall of the old Republic. It was passed down from generation to generation until Pre Vizsla was killed in duel by Darth Maul. Maul took the dark saber and became the leader of Deathwatch. After Maul stopped using the dark saber, it was found by Sabine Wren (one of the main characters in Rebels) and she would eventually give it to the rightful heir to the throne of Mandalore, Bo Katan. Using the Darksaber as a symbol, Bo was able to unite the houses of Mandalore and make them all one people. Now this might get a little spoiler-y but even the viewer doesn’t know that much yet. But basically in between some point of the show Rebels and the Madalorian, Moff Gideon and Bo Katan get into a scruffle and Moff Gideon comes out on top with the Darksaber. Bo Katan lives, but the houses become scattered again. Now nothing has been confirmed up until this point, but some have been theorizing that Din Djarin (Mando) could possibly come into possession of the Dark Saber and he will be the one to reunite the houses of Mandalore. I personally think that’s a little far fetched, but one way or another the Darksaber will come back into play.

Hey, Holden and Jen. Here's some helpful info for Epsodes 7 and 8: The IG-series of robots are designed as enforcement and/or security droids in the way that Threepio is a protocol droid and Artoo is an astromech. They're heavily-armed and agile with a 360-degree field of vision. A group of them went rogue after manufacture, slaughtered the engineers who built them and dispersed into the galaxy. The most famous of this set is IG-88 seen in "Empire" with the other bounty hunters hired by Darth Vader to track the Millenium Falcon. As IG-11 is also a bounty hunter, it's likely he's from that group. The combatant fighting Cara with a crown of horns is a Zabrak like Darth Maul but without the facial tattoos. The yodaling's mending of Greef's wound is only the second time we've seen Force-healing in the franchise and its first use chronologically that we know of. 26 years later, in "The Rise of Skywalker", Rey would do it again but Jen hasn't seen the Sequel trilogy yet. The climactic double-cross implies two Imperial factions that temporarily aligned for the chance to study the yodaling for reasons we can only guess. Werner Herzog's troops were shabby and unkempt while he wore civilian clothing. He was probably a civilian Imperial of high rank and his security force might have been a unit of stormtroopers who sold their service as mercs. He probably found out about the yodaling but lacked the resources to exploit the prize and was forced to contact a more organized Imperial remnant commanded by Esposito's Moff Gideon. Moff is a title of the Empire meaning military governor. His troops are polished, well-equipped and supported by an elite contingent of black-armored Death Troopers first seen in "Rogue One". When Gideon realized he could take the prize without having to go through Herzog, he eliminated the competition! Giancarlo Esposito, who played Gus Fring, the regional drug kingpin in "Breaking Bad", gets the meaty villain role of Moff Gideon! He's currently in the second season of "The Boys" as well. Favreau previously worked with him in "Revolution" which is probably how he got attached to this project. Deborah Chow delivers again, makes us think Kuiil tossed the yodaling to save himself and leaves us with that gut-punch image of a dead Kuiil mere yards from the Razor Crest! Episode 8's opening bit about the biker scout troopers missing the stationary target so badly was an acknowledgement of the popular Star Wars inside joke that stormtroopers have terrible aim! Jason Sudeikis, formerly of "Saturday Night Live", played the trooper carrying the yodaling in the satchel. Most of the stormtrooper extras used in the finale were from the 501st Legion, a fan organization of Star Wars devotees who craft screen-accurate costumes and gather together for charity functions. The producers summoned them without informing them of the nature of the function for which they were to assemble and, upon arrival, they were shocked to realize they were going to be part of an actual Star Wars film production! We learn Mando's name is Din Djarin and why he hates droids. Droids wiped out his people! IG-11 turned it around for him, though. The sigil on the pauldron of the Mandalorian who rescued young Din revealed he belonged to Death Watch, a sect of fundamentalist Mandalorians that feature very prominently in the animated "Clone Wars"! The sigil Din receives on his pauldron is that of the Mudhorn, the animal he slew in Episode 2. The mysterious armorer and lore master played by Emily Swallow proved to be a fan favorite! It is unknown if she will return for Season 2 but I love how she smelted a stormtrooper! The pendant Din bequeathed to the yodaling is the skull of a mythosaur sculpted in metal. It is the symbol of Mandalorian culture. When the original non-human species of Mandalorians called Taung settled on Mandalore millenia ago, the planet was inhabited by huge dinosaur-like beasts called Mythosaurs. They were hunted to extinction by the Mandalorian colonizers in their effort to tame the wild planet. They saw their struggle against the Mythosaurs as the crucible that put their creed to the test and they emerged victorious. Thereafter, the skull of the creature became the Mandalorian emblem. The big Easter Egg in this episode is the DARKSABER! The Darksaber is a unique black lightsaber introduced in the animated "Clone Wars". Originally, the only Mandalorian Jedi in history built it but it was stolen from the Jedi Temple millenia ago when the Old Republic fell during one of the Jedi-Mandalorian wars. The Mandalorians have fought with and against both the Jedi and the Sith throughout history. The Darksaber goes through several owners over the course of the "Clone Wars" and "Rebels" series but how Gideon got his hands on it is unknown. It is a treasured heirloom of the Mandalorian culture and wielded by the ruler of Mandalore. Taika Waititi, the voice of IG-11 and the director of "Thor: Ragnarok", helmed the finale. Now that you've seen the first season, I urge you to check out the parody trailer that advertises the show as if it were a '70's Spaghetti Western if you haven't already. It's hysterical and executive producer Jon Favreau even tweeted about it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3urkIWYo9d6i9U I encourage you to begin your "Clone Wars" and "Rebels" journey because four to six characters from the animated shows are rumored to make their live-action debuts in Season 2 of "The Mandalorian". You also have to finish "Solo" and the Sequel trilogy!

The Dark Saber belonged to the first Jedi-Mandalorian. It was put in the Jedi Temple after his death and the Mandalorians took it back. Basically, the one who has it controls Mandalore and their people.

6:47 Those are Lekku, which actually contain part of a Twi'lek's brain. People have removed them on Twi'lek's before and it sort of lobotomizes them. 7:27 Mandalorian is a group of people or a creed. They originated from the planet Mandalore and in the Old Republic they were the supreme warriors in the galaxy. Through many many wars they have been all but eraticated. At this point in the Mandalorian, they are all scattered across the galaxy in different tribes/families, but are a mere shadow of their former selves. Though they are still great warriors.

Dark Saber is basically a symbol of Mandalorian leadership. Maul killed the leader of Death Watch (the group that saves Mando as a child) to claim the Dark Saber. It reappears in Rebels and the last we see it is owned by Bo-Catan. Somehow Moff Gideon must have acquired it during the Great Purge.
