Hi Christine, I started going grey when I was 16. I’m almost 30 now. I used to bleach my hair platinum to try and “hide” the grey. It was actually you specifically who inspired me to stop coloring my hair and letting it go grey naturally. I also have dark hair so the grey is really noticeable. Thank you for inspiring me to let my natural hair be what it wants to be: grey! Now I think it’s really cool and I’ve almost got some streaks going!

If more people would keep their grey hairs, maybe we would find it normal. Many women feel like it makes them look tired. I personally think it looks beautiful and it makes you look interesting, especially because it looks shiny and wavy. It’s super cool that you decided to keep it natural, when most people feel pressured to change it.

She doesn’t have a lot of grey hair compare to many of others… the worst is having about half grey half black… it d be cool if 100 %grey, the texture of grey hair is very different as well, if you have 50%, you just look like a crazy person a bit like Albert Einstein…

This culture has such an odd way of viewing women and aging. I really love that you are making the choice to own your hair color. There is an inherent beauty in confidence. Love you hair by the way! It's gorgeous and suits you well!

This is great, Christine. The other day my Asian Mom did the same thing your parents did - she stared at me like I was a freak, and said, "wow, your hair is really graying, are you gonna dye it?" It bothered me because she's in her 70's, and wished she could've had more grace and wisdom, and made me feel more accepted. I dye it maybe twice a year, but during Co-Vid, I just don't care, and wished people could be more accepting of women and aging hair. Men get called "silver fox", or sexy, for having salt + pepper hair, but women get called dowdy or old. It sucks, and this needs to change!

Like in the comments we discover that most people have greys very young, we just don't see it on the media, same for moms. My mom says hurtful crazy stuff sometimes, but I've come to notice that most do. Not saying it is ideal, but just saying is common. It took me a while (all my life lol) but we shouldn't be concerned with what moms say. Most people have grey hairs. Most moms are messed up. It takes the idealized pression out of it. ❤️
@mikayocc
@mikayocc 3 жыл бұрын
@@ritatocta7583 Sure, but just because *most* mom's say it, doesn't mean we don't have feelings, and are human, and are vulnerable to what our parents/family/friends say. That's why I appreciate Christine's video, and everyone's comments. It's nice to read everyone's comments and feel like you're not alone.

@@mikayocc completely agree with you, I think it's super shity not to receive care and respect from one of the persons who we love most, or even the story Christine told about her grandmother pulling her hair?! I wasn't saying that it doesn't hurt, it still messes with my emotions, I was just sharing that I came to the conclusion that usually it won't change and it is what it is. For me it changed my approach to my mother who always disregards what I say versus other people. But of course you have feelings and deserve to be listened ❤️ I was just sharing that personally I don't expectat good wise stuff from my mother anymore and have noticed that the women around me who couldn't care less what their messed up mother comment are more happy.
@mikayocc
@mikayocc 3 жыл бұрын
@@ritatocta7583 Yeah, sometimes acceptance is important. But even in her older age, my Mom is a sensitive person, and she's slowly changed as I've not given up on her and told her how I feel about how she makes me feel. She's definitely changed because I never gave up on thinking she could be *better*. There are others (like my cousins) who don't bother, and get in fights with my relatives who make rude comments. I think expressing how you feel, if you feel hurt/upset, is still important - even if you don't think your family/parents will change. I know there are cultural factors, and everyone is different, but I've refused to allow my Mom to say rude things to me without telling her how it makes me feel.

yes yes yes yes yes yes. I also started greying (I'm 27, tomorrow actually haha) and I honestly struggle with pulling them out or maybe dyeing my hair and just letting it be and not caring and not being worried about it. A big part of it for me is just living it and not worrying about my hair. Just going out even if I know that there might be people I meet who expect me to have hair that looks a certain way and just say well this is me and this is what I'm doing. Thank you for sharing this, thank you for doing you. Aging gracefully and with acceptance is probably one of the truest forms of beauty there is. Thank you again.

And I thought, “what’s wrong with that???” I’ve actually always wanted the big chunky streak of gray hair like Stacy London. Grays are great. Thank you for being so open about graying. I had a zoom call with a colleague and she was awkwardly cropping the top of her head out of the frame. At first I thought maybe she wasn't aware of how she was slightly out of frame. But as the conversation got more friendly and chit-chatty and less about business, she revealed that she hadn't dyed her hair since COVID hit and was purposely keeping the top of her head out of view. I had no idea that she was self-conscious about her greyed out roots. That's when I said, "Oh my god, I LOVE grey hair! I think it's beautiful!" She beamed and finally showed her full self. My mom developed greys early in her late 20s so I always associate grey hair with her and have always loved it. As luck would have it, what I thought was the beginning of a grey-over, never came. I would have some strands here and there, but I'm still waiting for my silver streaks to kick in. Your hair is absolutely lovely!

I’ve done green, blue, brown, even dyed it a gray ombré one time! When I dye it black it’s not because I’m self-conscious about my grays but I think of it like dyeing it purple, it’s just a new look! I’d even love for my hair to go completely white! During the pandemic I’ve been letting it grow out. It’s not really this life changing thing for me, but it’s been a heathy break. I’ve been watching KZbinrs for quiet some time and when I first came across your videos and noticed your grays i instantly felt so much admiration and pride over the fact that here I was watching a young female influencer who was proud to display her grays and never felt the need to explain herself as to why she chose to keep it natural as opposed to dying it and I appreciated it. For someone like myself who’s never dyed her hair nor ever want to dye it but now has tons of gray really appreciate people like you who puts themselves out there in the public eye and still embrace every part of themselves because without people like you, I wouldn’t feel as confident enough to continue embracing my own grays. Seeing you for the first time on KZbin with gray hairs was to me what that Kinfolk article was to you...inspiring, and it helps me continue to own every part of myself.

Now I sometimes use espresso shade tonner, which covers brassy part but doesnt cover up my grey hair. Friends got used to it and dont comment at all, husband likes it. Only have problem in hair salons when cutting my hair... for them its weird not to cover greys. I live in Ukraine and here women are obsessed with looking pretty in a standart way, but I always was different , I can use bright pink eyeshadow and be 32 years old))) I dont care, I enjoy!

ever since you started showing your natural grey hair (and I've been following you practically since the beginning) I completely fell in love!! it looks so gracious and ethereal and I am so glad you are speaking about it and empowering others to also embrace their natural hair. also, this reminded me of marina and the diamonds (the singer) who also started to embrace her greying hair in recent years and I applaud her for it, since it must be so hard on her in the music business where women are always pressured to look young and sexy to stay relevant

I’ve always loved your gray hair and you have been my inspiration to continue growing out my grays. Anytime someone mentions my gray hair I always show them one of your photos from Instagram and say “this is what I hope my hair looks like one day.” I think you look beautiful and your hair is too.

I actually love your grays! I've had a couple strands here and there and I now have deeper lines on my forehead. I just turned 30, and really all I can think about is how incredibly grateful I am to be in the skin I'm in. Thank you for inspiring us all to love our grays and our aging features!

Christine! It's been years since a video of yours has come up on my feed. I recall commenting on one a long time ago and I mentioned that I loved how your gray hairs peeked out around your face. You replied thanking me and referenced the hate comments you had gotten about it. You look as beautiful as ever and I appreciate your message of nonjudgmental kindness towards ourselves and others. ❤️

You are so inspiring. You are also a natural beauty, you could be bald and look lovely. Because of pandemic, i was forced to stop coloring my hair. Fortunately when the "line" appeared it was fall and i could wear a hat. One year later my natural hair has come out. I never thought it would be so cool. I am turning 60 this year. Tomorrow I am getting a professional cut and hopefully have mostly my natural color. I'm excited.

I veeeery slowly started getting grey streaks in my mid-twenties, now I’m 35. I’ve always played around with different hair colors but it was never about hiding the grey. My natural color is a dark blond but very streaky so every color as well as the grey fades or blends in pretty nicely. I’m really ok with the grey and have been keeping it natural for the past few years. I mostly care about being healthy instead of focussing on how it looks.

I freakin' LOVE your hair. I think it looks amazing. I started going grey at around 28, and I'm 30 now. They are coming in quite rapidly, and I honestly dig 'em. I think seeing how Claire Saffitz's hair looks was a big inspo for me. I have curly hair, and thankfully my white hairs for the most part match the same pattern. I think having a good balance of protein and moisture helps keep my grey hair and brown hair in a fairly stable place! Honestly, I just embrace the erratic nature of it. Plus, I think it looks cute when there is a handful of white hairs swirling around my face-framing layers. :)

I started getting grey hairs much more around the age of 29 and I found myself thinking "aren't I too young to go grey?" Only to realize that the reason I thought I was too young to get grey hairs is because most people were dyeing it. Around the same time I started watching your videos, and I thought it was really refreshing that you didn't dye yours, and I thought I wanted to do the same thing. Another woman I knew who was nearing retirement wanted to go grey after dying it for years, and found herself unable to, because the black dye she'd been using for years was too pigmented to lift from her hair, which left her dying her hair black until this day. When I first met my partner, something that stood out to me in a positive way was confidently rocking some early graying. All of these thoughts and observances have informed what I ultimately decided, which was to just go grey naturally. Part of my thinking when I made that choice was that it was a positive thing to provide more normalization and support for other people also would prefer not to dye their hair to cover their grey. When I was younger, I had a lot of fun dyeing my hair all different colors, but I've now stopped dyeing it so that the grey can come in naturally and I feel great about it. I'm sorry to hear about all the rude comments you've gotten, sadly it makes me wonder if people are thinking the same things about me but not saying anything -- at least they're not saying it I guess. But I'm happy with how my hair naturally looks -- I'm not sure why people get so worked up about it. I don't judge whether people cover their grey or not, my only thought on the matter is that there really shouldn't be any pressure either way, it's fine no matter what you choose.

You are beautiful. Your hair is beautiful. We have all been conditioned to dislike grey hair and view it as looking old. I find that the people who comment are probably the most insecure. My 80 year old mother-in-law still dyes her hair as does my sister-in-law who is older than me. I will still always be younger than them and they will still be grey - they just hide it.

i didn't expect a video about hair to be so touching but i related to the parental projection and your mission to sidestep it. It's funny how something so superficial can be a metaphor for self-love, especially when the message to *not* self-love comes from the ones that supposedly love us the most.

I have naturally ash blonde hair that I’ve always dyed blonde regularly, so it was actually only over lockdown with my roots growing out a lot that I realised I’m greying and I think it’s really cool. I don’t know whether that view comes in part from watching your videos and loving your hair! I’ve decided to grow out my natural colour and grey more and have it more balayage rather than all over blonde going forward, because I find the greys sexy, so does my boyfriend! I have to say, the wiry curly texture of it has been the only downside but love your tips and will definitely be getting a scarf! 😍

Always a refreshing video from you Christine. I am greying too. I started greying in my twenties and at the time, my forty year old sister had no greys. I used to pluck the ones on the front out because I could kinda hide the others I thought since I couldn’t see them. I was lucky to have my best friend who had grey streaks genetically since her teens telling me to leave my greys alone. I have naturally curly hair so my curly greys were not that hard to blend in texture-wise although they were feel coarser compared to the rest of my hair. After a few years of being encouraged by my siblings who had no grey to leave my greys alone. I stop plucking them. Partly due to the fact they were getting too many to keep plucking. These days I am noticing a lot of young people greying so it’s like it’s okay. My boyfriend has natural salt and pepper combo going on also genetically and my older siblings are greying now too. I see videos or pictures of ladies with beautiful greying hair and I do sometimes wonder why my greys don’t grow in a nice pattern like theirs. 😂😂😂. I have moved pass caring too much of what people think of my greys like I used to be in my twenties but I still get the odd person who sees my greys and exclaims and I go back to that feeling when I was in my twenties trying to hide them but then I brush it off. These days it’s finding the random grey in my pubic area which I find fascinating 😂😂😂. Am in my mid-thirties by the way.

Im in my late 30's and only have gray hair around my temples. I want an entire head a gray hair so bad! So to speed things up I've bleached my hair and am toning it to gray. It's a long process with a lot of up keep. So I'm jealous of people with tons of natural gray as I find it really beautiful.

i started noticing greys in my early 20s and decided to just let them do their thing, partially because i'm a contrarian and also because i was inspired by your beautiful hair! i like checking them in the mirror and seeing how my little grey temple streak is coming along. i may have other hang-ups about my changing aging body, but hair isn't one of them. i think they look cool!

My hair has been "whitening" since I was in the seventh grade. I think it was due to stress about getting into a good high school, then college. Sad, I know. Now, many moons later, I think it has maybe grown by 15% and will peak when I get stressed out. Which is bad, since I am neurotic and prone to stressing over little things. It is weird how the white hairs are totally different texture. Have you found the ones that are transitioning to white and are like half normal texture and half strange texture? It is trippy. Having said that, I think it looks cool and no one really cares that much. I think more than a few people go through the same thing, and everyone should just deal with it the way they want to.

I’ve had grey hair since I was 12 and I haven’t stopped dyeing my hair since and I’m now 25, since meeting my boyfriend who doesn’t care about my curly and grey hair I haven’t dyed it as regularly but after watching this I want to see it grow out. I also don’t straighten my hair a lot anymore. Who was I trying to impress lol why did I care so much about what others thought. The longest I’ve gone without dying was probably half a year or so and I’d get my mum and family friend who normally dyes my hair saying to dye it because it’ll look healthier and that it’s been a long time as if it’s meant to be dyed, makes it kind of sad now that I think about it. When I first got it I dyed my hair black for a while, stupidest thing to make a child feel different or ugly

Christine - you look amazing with your grays! I just wanted to comment that a young woman with gray hair looks stunning. These ladies have fresh, unlined (for the most part!) skin and it offsets the colour beautifully. I would probably be around your mom's age and goodness, older skin with gray hair is a whole other look. Going natural takes on a different meaning. I am gray with blonde at the moment, I'm not ready to go 100% yet.
