Him giving me an STD showed he didn’t care about me or the baby, but him beating me while I was a pregnant was a sign that he had the power to end our lives at any moment and he didn’t care. Please don’t say such harmful statements and think that there is truth to it.

@@jc_80 ...Often money can be used as a weapon to control (Financial abuse) and other forms of manipulation may be implemented to maintain the "Dominant role" in the home. I would strongly agree that the woman should have a career to fall back on or have the option to work part time or telecommute, in order to remain current in the workforce. Also, in my opinion, there should be three separate bank accounts: the husband's, the wife's, in addition to, a joint account for bills which effect both individual's (Mortgage, utilities, taxes, etc). The couple should create a financial plan / calculation toward expenses. For example, if the husband has a higher salary, then perhaps he pays 65% of the bills and the wife pays 35%, which is transferred from each account to the joint account. So, the husband and the wife have their own money and there is little co- mingling of funds except for the necessary bills to run a household.

The courts can’t/won’t help if the husband doesn’t have enough assets or income. To leave the marriage and still survive, she needs a steady source of income of several thousand dollars a month for living expenses, plus enough time during the day to take care of 3 babies. Unless they have a McMansion with lots of equity to split and/or he’s wealthy or a high earner, there is no way any child support check or even any temporary alimony is going to support her and 3 babies under age 3 or even pay just for the skyrocketing cost of childcare for a newborn and 2 toddlers so that she can work. If she tries to end the marriage, she is in danger of homelessness, pure and simple. That, more than forgiveness, is the reality that’s not being spelled out when Dr. John stops short of urging her to kick him to the curb. Hard lessons to learn for all women who want to get married and have children-first have/earn/build up a substantial nest egg and invest it and put it in a separate trust, and then get a prenup from a reputable family law attorney in your state with lots of prenup experience-all BEFORE getting married. If you cannot afford to do this, then you cannot afford marriage and children. I hate to say this and no one wants to hear it, but that’s reality.

If it was herpes and she gave birth not knowing, it could kill the baby. I know a woman where this happened: husband cheated when she was pregnant and said nothing to her. As the baby was born it was exposed and didn’t have the immune system to fight it off and died a couple of days later. I told my husband when this happened to this woman and he went white as a ghost bc I was pregnant at the time also and he was cheating on me with my best friend. People are very confused as to what a broken home ACTUALLY is. It’s not separated parents because one has been abused the other/the others trust. It’s a mom that’s mentally unhealthy due to staying in a relationship where the person she was supposed to trust her life to, gave her an STD while she’s six months pregnant and risked her AND the unborn baby’s lives. THAT is broken. THAT is what your kids will accept as normal if you don’t show them otherwise. I am a nurse and I nagged her until she went to the doctor. Her Pap smear showed some early dysplastic changes, which progressed to more serious changes, and she had a hysterectomy. These are people with issues. These are not the happily married couples calling in. No one is perfect and most of us have some childhood baggage to sort out. We tend to do this through relationships because it’s only through relating that problems come to the fore. Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone. Marriage is a container for LIFE. Adultery is the only justification for divorce, but it’s not an automatic justification. It can be healed and the cheater can resolve those issues which compel them to lie and cheat. I was in this exact situation (other than the std and the way I found out about the cheating) during my second pregnancy. I came from a broken family and tried to stick it out for my kids but I became miserable due to the constant fighting. I’ve always been very trusting in the relationships I’ve had but after the cheating I ended up being paranoid about everything. When I realized I wasn’t “me” anymore and saw how the fighting was having an affect on my kids I ended the relationship. As much as I wanted to keep my family together, I didn’t want my children growing up thinking that’s what a family looks like, because it doesn’t. I truly hope he told her about the cheating because he was remorseful and not simply because of the std. I honestly believe once someone cheats on a person they will do it again. That happened to me and I felt so stupid for even trying again. I hope she heals from this and doesn’t lose herself while trying to start over with her husband... this whole situation is just so sad.

Hence why I usually talk to one friend when my husband acts up (and vice versa for her fiance) She understands it and also knows I want my marriage to succeed. I would never stay with a man that did this to me. I thank my parents who always advised me to make sure I put myself in a position where I would not need to stay with someone who disrespected me like that. It may be she is choosing to stay because she loves him or it could be because she is a young mother with 3 kids in 4 years. I hope is because of love. My advice to anyone entering a relationship: before giving up your career to stay at home and start having kids right after marriage, think things through. Can you manage 3 young kids on your own? Can you survive in your own if your spouse leaves you? If not, maybe take things slower and be strategic with your decisions.
