It just blows my mind how they communicate with each other in that mediocre english. Like he doesnt know anything in her language and she barely knows anything in his. Thats nuts to me. Hopefully she gets better in korean too and he should make some effort to learn the basics of her language because that would definitely make things easier for them. They look like they have a nice relationship tho.
@notxiao3326 жыл бұрын
Its not about how well their grammar is or whether they can speak on a academic level. They clearly understand each other so they will be fine. She is also learning korean and they both seem very nice and respectful.

it's about having a relationship working, how can you have deep conversations when you can't even speak the language properly? Communication is key and they have been married for five years... I don't really know what they can talk about and it's sad

@mahaloaloha68196 жыл бұрын
The stereo type of foreigners is about language barrier and most of us feel uncomfortable about the reality that Koreans should communicate in English because many of them don't speak local language, Korean. So literally we feel a bit uncomfortable. Also local media sometimes draw attention to the people about domestic crimes made by foreigners and inform certain colors and nationality and social status. It unconsciously affects us to picture foreigners are dangerous and violent. Unfortunately U.S army force in Korea has played the biggest role to form the stereotype of violent and uneducated foreigners as Russian white female formulate our image toward white women as dancers and prostitutes in Korea.

What is really annoying me about this show is that they are so into it that the women cook for their men and do housechores. Even the French guy like WTF. We are in the 20th century you know. He can cook for himself or they can cook together. Both work so they can also share housechores. The couple is really lovely and they are a good family all together. Who cares if she can cook or not they seem happy together.
@madewithrealdiamonds2 жыл бұрын
The Frenchman is European. This is a Korean show, and they're a homogenous nation. So, it's their way or the highway. Even in the US, it's seen as a wife's duty to cook for her husband, or at least a traditional role. Granted, in many cities and wealthier households, it's rare. However, she's a housewife since she isn't working 40/4/12. Having some savory food on the table, and a clean home is a requirement if you're going to stay home. I do the same when I stay home. Why would I work full-time at the house, then come home and work full-time again? The Europeans always have the "we share everything equally" excuse. However, how do you share cooking and household duties equally? How do you quantify each task? None of them have ever provided a clear nor logical answer to this question. It sounds good in theory, but is extremely difficult in practice, which is like most modern European values. Weird, as they get older, they cling to the "traditional" ways. I wonder why🤔🤔

But here, I feel like they love each other a lot and they really understand, or at least try to understand each other. Plus, the father-in-law and the brother in law are such sweethearts, it's heartwarming to see this family dynamic. I wish them the best, and I hope Daria will succeed in her upcoming projects :3

I do find it a bit problematic that she is supposed to learn korean completely, but he doesn't seem to have any desire to learn any ukrainian. I love korean culture, and i agree that you should show an effort in learning the language, but sometimes the korean partners in this show need a bit more empathy. But then again, we only see small snippets. It must be tough for both of them, but worth while since they are making a big effort.
@eliri4126 жыл бұрын
They are not living in Ukraine though. The partners are being pushy about the language, cause... well, you need to communicate with locals and find a job, If you keep living in your English/own native language bubble, you won't go anywhere

I have to say a few things. Looking at the comments - it's a mess. 1. We are not getting a full picture here. The show is about foreigners adjusting to Korea, not about trying to influence their Korean family with their culture. It's just a small fragment of their life that we get a glimpse of. 2. She is speaking Russian not Ukrainian. They are different, although a lot of words are very similar. She seems to speak Russian without accent, so it must be her primary language. 3. Again, it is a show with a lot of editing, so what we see might not be the full content. Before people start bashing others, let's be more kind and put ourself in their shoes.

Some suggestions I would have for this couple. 1) They need to eat more together. He needs to eat food she prepares, both Korean and Ukrainian. Either in the morning or at night. Not eating together is not good for their young marriage. It's a real shame that she doesn't have a mother in law to help her. 2) She needs to learn Korean from someone who isn't her husband. That just causes friction between them. 3) She needs to find a place to play the music that she wants to play. And if possible, other musicians to play with on a regular basis. Perhaps performing as a trio. If there is a local college nearby maybe she can find some music students there.
