Even without the baby in the picture, can you imagine losing your dog, looking for him for 45 minutes, and when you realise you can't find him, you just go "oh well, I'll just go shopping for a bit" ? So even if she had not forgotten the child (which is terrible), even the story about the dog shows how screwed up she is 🤯

No the thing that is the MOST fishy to me is that she said she went shopping after, which is already weird, but the fact that she went shopping FOR THE BABY?? And that didn’t trigger her to remember she’s supposed to be watching said baby??? Nah, that’s weird. Either she lied about shopping for the baby because she thought it would somehow make up for the whole thing, being like “well I know I left the baby on a bench but look! I care about her! I was shopping for her!” Or something a lot more fishy is going on, because HOW, could she have POSSIBLY gone shopping for the baby without remembering the baby is supposed to be with her?

The guy you were talking about was my co-worker. He was crushed after his son died. They had fertility issues and went through treatment to have their son. Imagine the heartache. His wife called him at work because she went to pick him up at daycare and he wasn’t there. Everyone rushed out of the meeting to his car and he collapsed when he saw his son. SIL story sounds like a lie, mostly because the story she tells OP is incomplete. She goes for a walk with the dog and baby (would need a strap on carrier or stroller for that). Dog runs away, she puts baby down and looks for dog then goes shopping for said baby. And then OP blows up and the story ends. So, how did she remember the baby at the park to go back and get it? If the shopping didn't get her to remember, what did? The story didn't have a coherent end on how she got back to the child. She kinda gave herself away, when she said the infant should have been kidnapped. It means she either lied about it and her lie caught up to her, or she left the kid on purpose because she chose an area where child kidnapping is prevalent and came back disappointed it's still there. This means she's not upset with OP but rather jealous of an infant getting care and attention. She tried to get rid of what took away attention from her. Just my observation, but SIL comment on the baby getting kidnapped means she didn't forget (even with high blood pressure).

As strange as it is I can believe she actually forgot. A couple of months ago, where I live, a mother of three (a one y-old, a 4 y-o and a 6 y-o I believe) working from home took her children to school/daycare/kindergarten, like she would every day, the baby was the last in the route before returning home to work. This was something like 8 a.m. At 6 p.m. she asked her housekeeper (don't know that's the right word for it) to pick up the kids, since it was normal for them to do it that way sometimes. The housekeeper gets the older children first, when she gets to the nursery/kindergarten and asks for the baby, no one knows where it is, it hasn't come in that day. They scramble around for sometime looking for it (she phones the mother while still at the school), the housekeeper returns home, still no baby. The mother finally remembers to check the car.... It's Portugal in the summertime you can guess the outcome of that story. So if a mother used to a routine forgets a child for a whole day, and onle remembers to check the car as a last resort .... I can believe a girl with no children would completly forget one in a park bench

The moment I heard high blood pressure- this needs to be brought to attention because I feel it may develop understanding and give an explanation to everything! Hypoglycemia can be caused by high blood pressure as a result of low blood sugar. This condition will manifest in memory loss and confusion- loss of cognition- and the symptoms are often compared to drunk ness!! Seriously- my husband is an EMT and told me this one story where a man took police on a police chase for about an 11/2 hours, when he crashed, they got him out thinking he was drunk, but he passed every test. Medics arrived and notified the cops he was experience HYPOGLYCEMIA. After being treated, he had almost no recollection and said the most intact memory was going into a daze while driving and thinking he’ll get his next sugary snack at the gas station. This does not mean everyone experiences memory loss, but they most definitely experience incoherency and confusion. This condition is easily reached as it just requires low blood sugar resulting in heightened blood pressure. Unfortunately, most people who experience this aren’t even aware of its existence or how far it can go. I’m betting this is what caused everything.

This sounds fake to me...or else there were drugs involved. Not necessarily illegal drugs, I used to take anti seizure drugs (taken as prescribed by a Dr) that gave me brain fog that could've been bad enough to cause these kind of mistakes (like forgetting what I was doing, knowing I was forgetting something important but unable to remember what) but I wouldn't have agreed to watch a baby while I was taking those drugs. Prescription meds can also change your attitude and/or make your emotions volatile. So maybe she's on a new blood pressure medication, and the side effects are messing her up? Still needs to explain that to OP and really apologize though. I don't have any personal experience with blood pressure medication, so I don't actually know what side effects you could have from that.

Omg. My son is 8wks old today. I couldn't imagine if someone left him on a bench for 2 hrs. I don't think I'd ever be able to forgive them. He eats every 2-4hrs... it would destroy me knowing he was left behind... probably hungry, hot/cold, etc.

Yeah I have ADD too, terrible memory. But if it was something I was checking the entire time before (like waiting for an important text or in this case checking a baby) even if the dog ran off id notice I was missing something in weight or action. Like when you forget your keys so you are like “what am I not holding”. No way could I go shopping for someone without thinking of them!

Obviously we only know OP’s story but when you lose a person or even a animal 5 minutes seems like hours. Being a mum to 3 kids I’ve done dumb shit but thank god I’ve never forgotten my kids Maybe the “wish baby did get kidnapped” comment was most likely said differently and out of anger. (100% not the right thing to say at all but people say some dumb stuff especially when angry) People are most likely to forget things that they haven’t been in routine with or around much. I have to set timers on my phone just to remember school drop off and picks ups (first proper year doing school runs due to pandemic) otherwise I could 100% see myself accidentally leaving my child at school. I doubt leaving the baby was on purpose and done to hurt the mother as OP said they were really close. But I think OP is wrong for trying to split her SIL and brother’s relationship up over a accident… (yes should never of happened). Think both parties just need to calm down and give each other space to think things over properly. I’d still tend my brother’s wedding to support him but it would take a while to mend bridges with SIL.

12:29 did this dude just compare forgetting your keys in your car to go on a chipotle run (horrible in itself have some self respect and take your ass to a taco truck) to leaving a literal baby, who could die if left alone- on a park bench to chase after a dog then forgetting about THAT dog and going shopping 😭😭 i cant with him

I would of forgiven her had she not gotten crazy after SHE fkd up. She should of just said, "I understand" when OP said she wasn't gonna go to her wedding. But she fkd it up even more when she said, "I wish your baby got kidnapped" there's no coming back after that.

I actually can see where someone would make this comment. They've known each other since they were like 12 years old. In a panic she sets the baby down in its carrier and Chase's after a dog. I personally have chased after a dog for hours. I don't know what the in-betweens were. But she obviously felt like she needed to come clean and be honest or she could have just kept it to herself and they would have never been the wiser. I understand that they're probably still hurt but how long has this period been? If it happened 2 months ago then yeah I can understand the outrage but if it happened like 2 years ago and they're still in contact enough with her to hear about a wedding and stuff then they should have either cut off the friendship long ago or just sucked it up and talked it out gone to therapy or some s***. But I can imagine having a friend since I was 12 years old and having made a mistake and being honest with them about it because I want to be an honest person and then starting to regret that honest choice. Maybe wondering if I just should have never told them at all. And then I just want there to be my best friends there on my special wedding day and they refuse to come all because of an honest accident that I was honest and up front with them about. I honestly think she probably could have been exaggerating the over 2 hours part how would she know it was actually over 2 hours. Especially if you're walking with a dog and then chase the dog she probably felt like it was over 2 hours. But let's just assume she's right and did leave the baby for over 2 hours. I highly doubt in a park or a high traffic area that a baby would have been left like that for over 2 hours maybe 30 minutes. I don't know what time of year or where this is but wouldn't the baby probably have sunburn or does it have any medical issues from this? If not I can see her being upset that her best friends don't want to be at her wedding and then lashing out and saying something like that cuz she probably doesn't have that bond with that baby that a mother has from growing inside of her. She has a bond with these friends that she's had for probably like half her life now. That's what she recognizes. So I can understand and see it but I don't know how I feel about the whole thing I don't know these people personally I feel like I can give better input if I actually knew who they were it just seems like it's a lot of emotions to actually get a clear view

A 2 month old baby could've died in this situation. The child could've been kidnapped and died at the hands of a predator, or the child could've starved to death/overheated outside in the sun on a bench. The OP's brother should NOT marry her. The response to OP not coming to the wedding is the craziest thing I've ever heard in my life. How can you not understand someone would not want to come to your wedding when you lost their baby for 2 hours? Insanity.

This one is f-ing wild to hear as a parent. So many things could have happened to that baby, two months is so defenseless. They barely have neck control and could have rolled off the bench and cracked their skull. Regardless if this person doesn’t have a child I couldn’t imagine leaving behind ANYONES child even before I had my own child. This is abuse and neglect. Also why the heck would the brother want to marry someone who did this, dude what’s she gonna do with YOUR kid one day? That’s def a mom whose child will be neglected….

I don't think SIL was drunk, possibly stoned, but I also don't think there was an ulterior motive. I think it was a genuine big fucking uh oh. SIL could have easily just never said anything to mom. Clearly, she felt guilty asfk, but the parents have all the right in the world to be pissed asfk. However, I'm not sure I would skip my brothers wedding altogether; she just would never watch my kid again. But when she said she wished the baby would have been kidnapped (a highly emotional, immature reaction), then mom definitely was not an asshole in the slightest. Before that comment, I'd say she was kind of an asshole if time had gone by and some sort of mends hadn't been made, given I think it was a genuine big effing whoops. SIL just sounds really immature. I'm also curious to know if it was SIL first time with a child alone. I just don't see what SIL would have had to gain by making it all up if it the whole thing is just some grand scheme of hers.

I love them, losing them wouldn't just devaste my sisters or my brother in laws it would kill me too. There are so many things about this story that just don’t make sense! Taking a baby carrier takes a couple min if doing it safely. There is 0 reason why she would have to take the baby off if she was going after her dog. And to have not 1 person in 2 hours report a baby alone in a park! Especially a 2 month old. AND THEN for the OP not have her family have her back and being called petty. I am calling BS on this whole thread. What if something WORSE actually happened, and the "leaving the baby on the bench" story was a lie she made up on the spot, feeling like she needed to confess to "something," but the REAL thing was so bad, she couldn't say? That's immediately what popped into my head when OP said she's sure there were other people around, but nobody did anything. The one curiosity empathetic context I wanna give SIL in the story because without it, this makes NO SENSE AT ALL is do we know if the sister was on any new medication specifically for mental health such as antidepressants or antianxiety medication some of the most odd behaviors memory wise happen when people dont mix with the meds.... also do we know if she happened to be pregnant at the time because my mom had moments like that of forgetfulness when pregnant! Update just got to the part about the high blood pressure again want to look into those medication's for two reasons first one being if she's on something that's causing that level of forgetfulness that can literally be deadly you want to spin point it and get her off of that or change medication the way medication impacts most people is not how it impacts everyone and so when you're on medication you must be on the lookout for odd behavior if your loved ones do stuff like this that seems so extreme and out of the ordinary especially out of the ordinary when you were close before look into this don't just assume the worst jealousy is one thing yes but when it’s out of character look around.....

There are a lot of plot holes in this story. If it's true, the SIL'S behavior is bizarre to the point that it indicates there's some sort of mental illness or drug abuse going on. So why trust her to watch a baby in the first place? When I had a newborn, I would have been extremely selective about who I'd leave the baby alone with... Idk. Not saying the story is definitely false, but I am saying that it leaves me with a lot of questions...
