My Sisterlocks were installed on Oct. 29, 2010. Two consultants installed 310 Sisterlocks over the course of 13 hours. I had 5 to 6 inches of stretched, natural hair.
This video shows my growth and hair styles over the past year.

Very nice video. Thank you for sharing your first year journey. I really like your sisterlocs. They are the right size. Some sisterlocs look more like thread than locs. The person that started your did a really good job. Hats off to you and your stylist.

Thank you. A seamstress friend of mine actually made that dress for me. My daughter has a different style dress with the same fabric, and my husband has a tie.

You are very beautiful and a true inspiration! We have a very similar face profile, shape and skin tone, so I can see exactly how the styles will fit me too - so as a newcomer to sisterlocks, I will definitely be rocking your hair styles! Don't worry, I live in the UK so you won't find your cloned double walking opposite you on the streets! Thanks for your contributions, they're appreciated sister!

In my opinion, I would say that a slightly larger size would give each loc a stronger root bed and prevent thinning and breakage. But a consultant/trainee might be able to give you a better idea of what your hair can handle.

@VirtueVee, I don't put any special products on my hair. I just wash with shampoo and spritz with water every day. I was braiding and banding when I washed. (I don't have to braid and band anymore). I removed the braids when my hair was 90 percent dry. That process kept my hair looking fresh and defined. A SL trainee told me that my hair texture was not prone to frizz. Try braid outs, twist outs, cornrow outs, Bantu knot outs, etc. These styles stretch and smooth the hair.

Thank you for the compliment. I don't really think my hair grows fast, but I suppose it just doesn't grow fast enough for me. :) I do see the growth more with Sisterlocks, and when I was a loose natural, my hair shrank like crazy! I didn't use any products in the first 4 months, except for the Sisterlocks Starter Shampoo. I usually spritzed with a little water every morning.

Thank you. You can see what my hair looked like prior to getting locs on my blog (found in the video description box). I had very tightly coiled, shrunken hair. Locs were the best decision I could've made for my hair. I think you will love your journey!

The cost depends on your length, density and what your Sisterlocks consultant/trainee charges. It varies for everyone. I suggest going to a few consultants and trainees and do some comparison shopping to get an idea of the cost.

@caligirlmiami I don't put anything on my scalp. My scalp actually is naturally moisturized. But, I do have dandruff issues. I haven't tried anything yet because I'm afraid of further opening up my super curly, open ends. I have used witch hazel on my itchy scalp. That worked wonders! You could also try essential oils or an apple cider vinegar rinse.

No. Sisterlocks are not two-strand twists. When mine were installed, the consultant said the locs were achieved through a sort-of weaving technique. She started at the tip of my hair and did the pattern to the root. I'm not exactly sure what it was, but I would say that it resembled an intricate braid. Then the Sisterlocks tool was used to tighten the locs to my scalp.

@Angelscnbsexi2 Well, when I went to my consultant, it took her 2 hours to retighten my hair. It takes me a few hours over the course of 3 to 4 days. If you are absolutely sold on Sisterlocks, I recommend getting them and having a consultant/trainee maintain them until you can take the retightening class. You can take it when your locs are settled. If you only want the Sisterlocks look, research micro locs, like braidlocs or locs maintained with the nappy locs tool.

@Imani1824 Thanks for the compliment. I washed my hair to prepare it and wore it in an afro. My consultant actually cut my hair to 5 to 6 inches to even it out. It was actually much longer, 12 inches in some spots. It shrunk down to 3 inches, maybe less, once installed. Think about your length with 2-strand twists or braids. Do you like that length, or do you want your hair to be longer? That's what the approximate length will be with Sisterlocks.

@sene0001 Believe it or not, my hair is still not fully locked, and I'm now at 1 year and 2 months. I don't know that I have a single closed end. I have noticed some condensing, but I'm still going through the locking process.

Beautiful! I have a question. You said that you had 5 to 6 inches of stretched natural hair during your installation. What did you do to prepare your hair? Did you blow it out? My hair is around 5 inches stretched, and I'm trying to decide if I should keep these kinky twist extensions in my hair until I gain more length or just do it now. Sad to say, but I length issues and I REALLY wanna elongate my hair before installation day, but my consultant said not to blow it out. Help?

I meant to ask a question, in your pics your locs look so defined, is there anything special you do to achieve the smooth look your locs carry? Mine are a bit frizzy even still at 16 months. Any advice for correcting the fuzzies?
